smallieking Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 i was just wondering if anyone fishes around cambria /somerset/bedford counties pa or allegheny county maryland Quote
plnoldrick Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 if the quemahoning, duman dam, glendale, yough dam, laurel hill, kooser, somerset lake, the casselman, yough river, cranberry glade, or high point count then yeah i fish around that area! Quote
smallieking Posted December 31, 2007 Author Posted December 31, 2007 yep exactly  i love fishin the queen.  i only ever fished lake somerset once without any success.  im mostly into fishing small rivers like the raystown branch down in bedford or little wills creek/wills creek and yellow creek Quote
plnoldrick Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 to me that area is the most densely grouped area of water around where you can catch a big anything. within 20 -30 miles you can catch a trophy bass, pike, musky, trout, and walleye. im like you though, i would much rather fish a flow then a lake. i didnt make it out to the raystown branch at all this year and im ticked about it. only place ive ever had a 100+ smallmouth day. or even come close for that matter. Quote
smallieking Posted January 1, 2008 Author Posted January 1, 2008 omg  i love that river  what part of it do you fish?  i fish between tatesville and hopewell. yea i went 3 times last year  one was in early may and me and a buddy only caught 4-5  but all descent size  then i went sometime in june on a boat above tatesville bridge and catch close to 50 using a heddon torpedo and then i went once down in July and didnt do real good  caught some but the river was real low and clear Quote
plnoldrick Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 i get off the pike at breezewood and backtrack on 30 for a mile or two and hit some backroads. there are a ton of bows in the river up there that hold a bunch. down from hopewell. check it out on google maps. Quote
smallieking Posted January 1, 2008 Author Posted January 1, 2008 yea  i think i know where u mean  i go to bedford on 56 then get on 30 and get off onto 26 at everett then its all backroads for me Quote

plnoldrick Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 plnoick im not sure if im reading the maps right but i think hopewell is down river from breezewood according to this river map i have hopewell is not very far up stream from the dam i think the curvy part u fish is the same section i fish im not sure maybe we should go sometime in the summer yes you are correct, hopewell  is in fact downstream from breezewood. i dont know what the hell way is up or down out there. but yeah we might actually fish the same section of river. ritchey bridge road or or lower mountain/bowser rd sound familiar? thats where im used to going. next year i would like to go upriver from breezewood into some skinnier water. but yeah im more then happy to meet up with anyone to get some time in the drink wherever. my biggest problem is i work for the railroad so my days off suck for about 20 more years! im monday and tuesday unless i bid a new job. You are correct when you call the river above that "skinny" Â Â LOL Quote
smallieking Posted January 4, 2008 Author Posted January 4, 2008 lol yea i always see muskies on the river but i dont care about them  i would rather see them out of the water  they eat all the smaller smallies and gillies  i have already reeled in half bluegills from a musky biting them when im fighting them  but the smallie fishing in the area is awesome Quote

fishnaddiction Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 yea tubes should work  im actually thinking that 3in beast should work too on 1/8ounce jigheads or some trig 5in senkos on 3/0 hooks  maybe some shaky worms  just buy the normal baits  yum craws and that  o yea  get some flouro too  its tough for the rocks and invisible to the spawning bass  should be alot of fun  yea we will go to the river too alot  Quote

Quote
fishnaddiction Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 yea that creek is no friend to baits but  yea we will probably hit all the normal areas  definety make a few trips down to cooks mills and probably fish around the train bridge and behind the shed  in between the two bridges  a  yea im sure we will fish alot of fairhope since it is right there ok  it should be a great time i cant wait  i will keep u posted about anything in the early season  like in april and may Quote
smallieking Posted January 7, 2008 Author Posted January 7, 2008 cool cool sounds great  what about down at the border  in the really flat water? Quote
fishnaddiction Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 umm im not sure  if the water is high at all and u still want to fish that will be are area but there is not alot of access there  we probably will stick to cooks mills and fairhope  idk know yet really what to do til i figure out what the fish are doing  hell all the construction work in hydman might have me sticking to the campsites and fairhope more than downstream  dont worry  we are going to catch fish dont matter where we go Quote
smallieking Posted January 8, 2008 Author Posted January 8, 2008 ok just wondering  we caught those bigones around that old bridge pilings  remember?  there is so much water to chose from so yea we should do real good  o yea what about below the pit?  in a the timber in the water?  Quote
fishnaddiction Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 yea i remember 4 or 5 nice ones all from the same pocket  yea  i dont like parking at the pit and there are a few campsites down below alll the laydowns and all of that area is fished heavily  maybe above the pit  there is alot of structure but is mostly shallow and flat but might be good with the construction going on just up stream from that  man dont worry i promise i will put us on some fish  Quote
smallieking Posted January 11, 2008 Author Posted January 11, 2008 hey how is the fishin in the spring like in early may or late april?  i found room in my scheledule and really want to go to wills but a guy is talking about going on a float down on the southbranch of the Potomac in WV for trout and prespawn bass  just wanted to know what u think Quote
JPD252 Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I fish in the Johnstown area, too. Â Unlike you guys though (it's gonna sound funny to you) but I've never caught a smallmouth. Â I've caught everything but. Â I usually fish Yellow Creek, and the Yough and Glendale on occasion. Â I seem to be just the opposite of you guys too. Â I can't stand to fish streams. Â I prefer the lakes. Â Quote
