BassFishingMachine Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 I know there have been alot of posts about positive things, such as good baits, good deals, finding baits etc. But I recently lost a real nice jig which I bought at a sports show (costed me 6 bucks). Anyway hearing some of the most expensive/best baits you guys lost would make me not feel as bad lol :. So what high quality baits have you lost before? On a fish? Snag? Or what ever? Quote
CJ Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 I've lost countless lures until I got a lure knocker. Matter of fact, me and a certain someone saved alot of money with one today! Quote
mattm Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Pretty much anything i've ever bought. I don't sweat it though its going to happen. In fact, I probably just break it off before I should. I've never lost a Sammy yet. Quote
Cajun1977 Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 ive lost to many lures to count over the years, some stuff just happens, i even cut my line with a luckycraft pointer tied on after i foul hooked a huge carp in a tournament, i didnt want to spend all day reeling that beast in and waste my time. I know its different from one person to the next, but i look at it this way, if you dont wanna lose it then dont buy it and fish it. But i certainly try to do everything i can to save it for the most part Quote
Evan Pease Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 The other day I broke the lip off of a $12 crank and lost a Pure Poison. > Quote
Rayraff Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 I went lake trout fishing up in lake athabaska and we lost 7 Huskie Devils ($11 a pop) Quote
BassFishingMachine Posted March 3, 2008 Author Posted March 3, 2008 Yeah, I don't think im going to buy anymore jigs over 4$. They are the type of bait you lose most imo, so buying real expensive ones is a pretty expensive game, unless your rich or somethin.. :-/ Quote
Super User burleytog Posted March 3, 2008 Super User Posted March 3, 2008 Jigs are disposable. If you aren't willing to lose a lure, there's no sense in fishing it. Quote
Branuss04 Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 If you aren't willing to lose a lure, there's no sense in fishing it. Well said. I've was close to loosing a $30 SB. I was beating the bank and got hung up in a try in the middle of the lake. Luckily I had my float tube in my car (No waders, no flippers, no pump) 45 degree water, but I was able get out there and get it. I did loose a LC D20, that was the first and only LC i've ever owned. oh well, life goes on. Quote
dumb_dog11 Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 lost a nice swimbait last time i fished :-[ bought a new one went fishing today 8-) lost it again > going to buy another!!! ;D Quote
Super User T-rig Posted March 3, 2008 Super User Posted March 3, 2008 You don't even want to know what I have lost. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Jigs are disposable. If you aren't willing to lose a lure, there's no sense in fishing it. Amen. I "donate" a lot of stuff every year. When it comes to plastics, Brent made a good point. My lake has probably risen a foot from all the plastic we've thrown in there. Moving to hardbaits a bit more this yr for this exact reason. I'm primarily a plastics guy so any other lake I'm in, that will be the game plan but my lake needs an environmental break! lol Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 3, 2008 Super User Posted March 3, 2008 You have a choice to make! Do you want baits in your tackle box or fish in your live well? You can't have both Quote
Super User Alpster Posted March 3, 2008 Super User Posted March 3, 2008 Jigs are disposable. If you aren't willing to lose a lure, there's no sense in fishing it. This is why I don't buy expensive jigs. Where I fish them, they will get lost. I am not convinced that expensive jigs are a big advantage. Like Burley says, they need to be disposable. JMHO If you have a good lure retriever, you shouldn't lose many treble hook lures. Ronnie Quote

Just look at it this way, you lost a jig, the most a jig has survived in my tackleboxes is a couple of outings, normally on a trip I loose two or three jigs ( sometimes even more ), some only see the water once before they take permanent residence in a pile of rocks, a fence, a stone wall or a submerged tree limb ..... but if you ain 't casting them where they can hang up you ain 't casting them where the fish are. Reason when it comes to certain baits like jigs I 'm as cheap as I can get. Quote
BaitMS Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 I lost my first Lucky Craft a few weeks ago...after that I invested in a plug knocker and its already paid for itself!! But hey its all part of the game. Quote
jwo1124 Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 I get all bent out of shape soing a $5 or $6 crankbait, I couldn't imagine the shape I'd be in if I were to lose a $40 or $50 swimbait... > Quote
ba7ss3in Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 I bought one of those auto retrieve lure knockers a couple of years back and hardly ever loose a treble hook lure. I've cut the line because I made a bad cast over a hornets nest but that's about it. Quote
