Went out today with bassinajr up in Johnston. I missed three on a swim jig. One I could see was swimming with the trailer in it's mouth when I attempted to set the hook it came right out. They just seem not to be hitting very hard.  Nothing on the beds but in the the early pads. One came out from under a dock, but was a soft hit.  Bassajr got a nice one in the pads. So where are we with the weather and all in the spawn? beds are visible but no ones home.

It all depends where in the state you are fishing. Some of the super clear nothern lakes are still prespawn (Echo was, not one bed there on Sat). Some are postspawn, like the one you were fishing, but most are in the middle. On Johnson's yesterday there were fish everywhere. Some are postspawn and in the grass or shallow cover near beds (the bigger fish), some are spawning (most of these are very very shallow, under that a foot or so,1-3 pound fish), and I even grabbed a few females that were still filled with eggs. But within the next week or so I would say all lakes will go into the post-spawn phase.
