Hey...

I have been out the last couple of days and here's what I have found: Lots of beds, some with smaller males near them others empty. The fish that are around are VERY skitish and not biting that well. I believe that with that cold front and cold rain, the spawn, such as it is, started over again. I fished the deeper drop offs near the beds hoping the females would be staging there, various baits, plastic and hard, no go. What kind of activity, if any, are the rest of the Northeast guys (and gals) having!!!

I went out Sat morning nothing but a lone pickrel..

Went out Monday afternoon around 3pm.. In Swansea,  lots of fish near the top grouped together in shallow water anything close to them and they would scatter (spooked).. this was in about 4-5 different places on the pond. Got 2 small bass near the scattering fish.

Went again last night around 7pm or so an got a lone crappie.

Pond where I work (warwick, ri) has what looks to be multiple beads near the shore with only small sunfish/crappie near them they are very skitish as well.. This weather really screwed them up..

Crappie are still biting here though.. killing them on a curly tail grub.

Yesterday I only saw a few beds on the Zeke's side of Johnson's but was catching post-spawn fish.  :-/

The spawn is never going to happen if this weather keeps up. Watching the news and same thing as last weekend. Warm until Friday, (Just when a wave of fish will come up) then boom, a cold rain and cold temps for the weekend. >;) ::(

That's not stopping them.

In the last 3 days, the wave has moved.  SPAWN IS ON.  Beds were spotty Mon, doubled yesterday and that was doubled by today. The temps aren't supposed to drop that much and the waters will hold plenty warm water to keep them there I think.  We'll see ;)

I did a lil walk around Stump Pond on Mon and had the same results as masssilversrt4, although I never had the chance to land anything a buddy hook 2 LMS both around 1.5lbs...they all seemed skitish and the water would boil like bait fish off the shore at Quanny...

Bassnajr - completely agree.  I have been out a few times this week and the beds have not produced anything.  The fish are there just very "spooky".  All of my fish this week did not include any bed fish although I tried.  :-/

This is going to be the longest most draggd out spawn ever on a lot of lakes. 50 degrees and a nice cold rain today, tonight, and into tomorrow. This should really drop temps and screw them all up again. :;)

Sweet, I never knew there was another trail up in Northern RI besides Joel's. Who runs it?

I just Have One question. Just who are the big dogs?

I thought Tin was the big dog. LOL

I agree John,lol....I must have missed the episode where Tin, w-dog and the other "big dogs" went to the Classic.  :;)  I'm not Joel's biggest fan, for my own personal reasons but I won't knock him as an angler.  Getting to the classic takes more than luck and good sponsors.

But as for the spawn,....you guys need better glasses!  I'm in the same boat with bassectomy.  High sun and here they come.  Has to be a sunny morning too.  Nothing pairing up yet but at least 1/2 to 3/4 of the fish we are seeing are being caught.  They are spooking but come right back,....sit tight and be a bit more patient.

I've been using a matt lures bluegill to bring them BACK to the bed, then I pull it and drop a trick stick,...been working like a charm.

I'm usually not a big spawn fisherman, Tin will be giving me a hard time I'm sure, but this year they are a little more challenging to figure out so I've been really into it and sure enough, I'll swear by bassectomy's words on this one.  I bet B-hole is finding the same at his place in Johnston too.  His fish were in the same stages as ours, last time we spoke.

It's a PERFECT year to employ the spark plug trick but we haven't stooped that low            yet ::( ;D

Hit B.H.'s Johnston spot last night (cold and windeee!!!) from shore and got two nice LMB. Now to hit it on a nice day with the boat. Mothers's day was an "off limits" day. Would have liked to go out Sunday!!!!

Hey guys! Had a quick 5 hour challenge on Manchuag this morning from 6 to 11. All LM w/57* water temp, air temp was 37* on arrival BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!! Extremely low by about 6' or more.

3 boats for the best three fish. Missed 1st by .2 ;) w/6.10 3rd was 6.8. They both threw Smoke Senko's and said they didn't see anything on beds???????? All my fish came off beds :-/ Drop shotted the Robo worm everywhere from 6" to 8' of H2O. The other guys passed right by beds seeing nothing, while I plucked them off right behind them. They are most definately there! I've got a feeling you might be spooking them off w/o realizing it and they're hanging in the dark stuff close by. Try pitching to some of those bare beds ,don't pitch directly into the bed rather pitch passed it and sowly drag it to the center and leave it there!  You may also want to consider lazer eye surgury ;D Just kidding guys a good pair of polorized is a must!

Tin a big dog???? If he is some of the other BD's could take a lesson from him on how to keep it light and real, not letting it go to their heads and forgetting where they came from!

Though I haven't spent much time with him he seems to have the right attitude. Name change Time----- "TIN THE BIG DOG BASSER"! 8-)
