Redtail Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 A lot of my friends fished in a tournament in Central MA on Saturday. The temp was in the low sixties and the water was around 53. I went to the weigh in (12 boats). Five boats got nothing, four boats got two, two boats got four and one boat had a limit. All the fish seemed to be the same size, just over a pound. Lunker was 1.82. That's what I call a tough day on the water! It seems that from my short experience that the fish don't seem to "wake up" until the water gets close to 60 degrees. Quote
RobbyZ5001 Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 Sometimes YOU need to wake them up. Putting a jig on their forehead works or Rat L Traps. Quote
nboucher Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 Don't give up. There are reports posted of big fish caught over the weekend (check my fishing tournament or outing). I snagged a five-and-a-half pounder in SE Mass on Saturday on one of my favorite early spring baits, a Husky Jerk worked very slowly. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 The one in my avatar was awake and feeding on cray's. Water temp was 54* Air temp about the same. This was yesterday (Sunday the 13th) I would say my biggest weakness was cold water fishing...I really only started heading out in March/April the last 3 years. I would always wait til June, but you CAN catch those big girls early. I just proved it to myself! The jig bite is ON! Quote
Super User Tin Posted April 14, 2008 Super User Posted April 14, 2008 The jig bite is ON! Yup, and it is treating some of us very well. Sometimes in less than a foot of water. Quote
Masshole Mike Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 my sister's boyfriend pulled out three 4+ LM on the cape this past weekend, all on senko's. me thinks i might have to make a trip down there this weekend. Quote
Basshole18 Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I have been SMASHING fish on the cape. The bite is anything but tough down here as long as you're fishing the right baits. I've already gotten a 5lbs largemouth, a 4-2 LM, and 2 4+lbs smallies and my buddy got a 5.1 smallmouth!!! Fish any of the herring-run fed ponds and camp-out in front of the run-mouth and chuck a suspending jerkbait for insane smallie action. For largemouth fish the deep water points with good drop offs coming out of coves with a football jig, slow. Or a drop shot. I've gotten about 50 fish in the last week. Mass Hole Mike, get a buddy and come on down here I'll show you a pond that I'm sure you have not fished and will BLOW your mind! Quote
WTRDOG Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 I fished torney's on the cape for over 10 years.Whether it was a small club torney,Military bass, freedom trail.I seen only a handful of 4Lb + smallies at weigh in's.Alot of people are hyping the fishing down the cape, come on down to the cape and catch 4lb smallies.....alot of guys don't even know what a 4# smallie looks like never mind a 5 lber.Let's see some pics. 4lb smallies down the cape don't come a dime a dozen..... : Quote
bassmedic46 Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 maybe I'll have to go to the cape, not getting many bites here. Tight lines Quote
macmaster761 Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 trout runnin in the charles, caught a 3+ largy, 1 pound largy, and a nice bluegill as well, seen a few crappies taken out on spinners and jointed cranks as well. Quote
