JustinFromPA Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Im tired of fishing all the same unlucky spots. Im also tired of trout. Anyone point me in the right direction of some quality bass areas? looking for someone to fish with too! Quote
Guest muddy Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Ranger Lake, The Lehigh and Little Schkyill Rivers for smallies and Beltsville Quote
JustinFromPA Posted April 13, 2008 Author Posted April 13, 2008 Ranger lake, my father lives right down the street. I believe its a private club, no? Quote
Guest muddy Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 I think you pay a fee to keep a boat there. I will ask my friend Mark I know he fishes there. Quote
RobbyZ5001 Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 Mauch Chunk, Beltzville, Nocamixon, Blue Marsh. Justin what is your exact city or town? Quote
JustinFromPA Posted April 14, 2008 Author Posted April 14, 2008 I live in Macungie, right outside Allentown. PS- I dont own a boat. Quote
PlasticMan Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 Ranger Lake is a private club that you can get a membership to. It costs $50 or so. All of the above choices, and also, the Delaware River. Bass fishing in our area is not that great. Not many solid lakes. Beltzville is tough to fish from the bank, or at least that is what I was told. I have never fished it. Quote
JustinFromPA Posted April 14, 2008 Author Posted April 14, 2008 Looks like Ill be taking a trip up to ranger lake this week and joining. Quote

Zel Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 There are several sportsman clubs dotted throughout the Lehigh Valley with private ponds/lakes attached to them, you might want to investigate. They aren't much to join, some less than $10. I was thinking of joining Blue Mountain Fish and Game Association this year (only about a mile from my home) for when the kids want to go out and catch a few, and accidentally fall into the water. PlasticMan Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 I was once a member of Ranger Lake. I will say that I have seen more big fish in that lake than anywhere else. However, I have never caught anything quality there. It is a tough lake to fish at. Quote

I havent been skuned more than once or twice, and thats always just after ice out.PAY ATTENTION TO LOCAL PONDS! Quote
skip Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Mauch Chunk, Beltzville, Nocamixon, Blue Marsh. Justin what is your exact city or town? X2 on Mauch Chunk, it isn't that bad from the shore, you may want to bring some waders though. Beltsville can be difficult even from a boat due to the water skiers and tubers that come during the summer. I plan on getting to Nocamixion but I've never been there. I read a flyer in the local dick's advertizing a few tournaments there...but as I don't own a boat either I have to depend on the charity of others to get out on most local lakes. All in all I recommend catching small mouth in the Delaware river (not really a short drive from macungie...but its worth it). good luck skip Quote
RobbyZ5001 Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Water skiers can only ski in one little section by the dam. They don't bother me at all. Also half of the lake is no wake so it isn't a huge problem. Although my top spots are in the middle of the lake where it is a high traffic area, but it is like that everywhere.. Quote
Zel Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Yeah Robby, but try to get on and off Beltzville on a weekend with a boat during the summer. Unless you are real early or real late, expect it to take a least an hour. What really aggravates me is when they are lined up 10-20 deep waiting to get their boats on the lake, and all you want to do is pull your boat out of the water and get it on the trailer it can get real ugly. And I've found they usually shut the gates right after lunch (both Pine Run and Preachers), and only let you in as someone leaves. The rangers there are no help at all. Quote

Preachers is the best place to launch those people usually have some sort of an idea of how to do it. I never really have a problem there. Zel part of the fun is watching people get their boat on the trailer! ;D I know after a long day of fishing you just wanna get home, but I usually enjoy watching people... heck they watched me and laughed when I was younger... MY TURN! The other launch... forget about it. I usually don't go to beltzville when they have to shut the gates. I will take my boat to Mauch Chunk or my cabin at Promised Land. Quote
