Minuteman Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 What ever happened to the originator of this thread? I see it says ex-member that is why I didn't respond, but I see some of you have picked it back up again. I live on the Berks/Montgomery County border in the Boyertown School District. I've been on disability since 1995 after my 4th back surgery failed and the doctor told me I'd never be able to do an 8 hr job. I took up computers as a hobby in the late 80's and now work at home repairing PC's to make extra money. Anyhow, I have 3 kids and only one is still in school which gives me the freedom to fish pretty much whenever I'm able. I only have little jon boat which I usually only use when my son is home from college. We fish Nockamixon and the nearby Towhee. Green Lane reservoir and the Boyertown reservoir are only a few minutes away and I make a lot of trips there during the day to bank fish. We checked Out Marsh Creek and Lake Galena when my son was on Spring Break, both are going to be added to our regular spots for the boat. My favorite lately has been Hopewell Park. I can take the boat there by myself and use it because if my back goes out the park station is nearby to get help. Lots of bass there, but we're also trying to land one of the pike that lay deep near its dam. Good Day, Bill Quote
Team_Dougherty Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 I live in Oaks. I fish the Schuylkill River, Perkiomen Creek, Beltzville Lake and I keep a small boat at Green Lane Resevoir. I am going striper fishing on Raystown Lake for the first on father's day weekend this year. Paul Quote

Will probally add raystown, and possibly Howard Lake this comming summer.  Am always looking for new fishing partners and locations.  I am a diabetic and with the summer heat my sugar tends to bottom out on me if I am not careful so my wife doesn't like for me to fish alone in the summer.  ;D 8-) Quote

topwaterbob Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 hello everyone. New member here. I live south of Pittsburgh. I took up bass fishing a couple of years ago and can't get enough. I fish mainly Pymatuning. I have been going up there since I was a kid. That was back in the fifties. I gave up walleye fishing since I got hooked on bass. I fished a few other lakes here in southwest Pa but I want to try Arthur and the Shenango and a few others up north. Â I used to live in Baden till 1963 and I remember my dad taking me to some strip pits way back then. I cannot remember exactly where there were but going up through Conway somewhere. If anyone can turn me on to their location I would appreciate it. As you can see my handle is topwaterbob and i love froggin amd buzzin. I have a cabin at Pymatuning and can't wait for the pads to emerge. So if anyone wants to share some good topwater spots let me know. Thanks. Bob Quote

I've been there bassin twice in past 2 weeks, the water level appears to be about 2-3 feet low. Most ALL the shorline cover is high and dry. The shallow bays on the North end are mostly inaccessible. The park office says it's only 1 1/2 foot below normal pool but after seeing the lake both times I think they are off their rocker. It's sooo low I'd recommend putting a junk prop on your boat if you have one. No pads emerging yet by the way, but after this warm up this week they should start. Later.... Quote
FutureClassicChamp Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 welcome to the site Bob. Â you cant beat lake arthur. it spoils you though. you dont even need to work to catch fish there. what a fun lake! Quote
Don_B Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 I've got a big grype about Lake Arthur and Pymatuning. Those hp restictions suck in my opinion. I've fished Arthur from shore and always caught a few, but can't take my jet out on the water. I paid plenty in taxes when I got my boat, and pay for my registration and fishing license(Erie combo stamp too!).They use tax money for those lakes but it's almost like a club lake for anyone with 9.9 or 15hp or whatever ridiculously low number they decide on. Those lakes are both pretty big. I can take my 175hp jet on Crooked Creek or Loyalhanna, both of which are a puddle compared to Arthur or pymatuning, simply because they are run by the Army Corps of Eng. I can fish any river in Pa., anywhere I so decide, but not Arthur or Pymatuning? What's the deal? Are they worried about speed? Waterskiers or something like that? Overcrowding? Bigger tournaments? I have a Tracker Jetboat, not one of those Skeeter, Trion, Ranger, etc., and thank God I do because I can fish all the great rivers, shallow and deep, we have here in W.Pa. I guess anyone in Pittsburgh that has one of those big glass boats either has to fish in and around Pittsburgh, or go to Ohio lakes? The state sure wants their taxes, registration, trailer tags, etc. for those kind of boats, even though those guys are limited in lake access. Shenango and Wilhelm are open to them(or me), but why not the others? I guess I just don't think that it's fair to all the boaters. Should they charge less in taxes, registration, or trailer fees to a guy that has a 250hp boat as compared to a guy that has a 9.9hp and will be accessing more public water? I'm just thankful the state isn't in charge of the rivers yet. Quote
towmotor Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Bumpin' it back to life....... SouthEastern PA (Montgomery County) here. Started fishing in 83 at 10 years old, but haven't thrown a line in 15 years. Used to hit Green Lane, Nockamixon, the Perkiomen, the Sure-Kill River, the Wissahickon etc. With my recent "dual-resident status" (Blakeslee, Monroe County) will be looking forward to Mauch Chunk, the Lehigh, and some other spots around the area. For those of you familiar with some of these spots........What lures/bait do you find to be most effective? Towmotor Quote
hjerk24 Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Boyertown Pa here. Â Fish the Fishers of men Series----and try to hit other local tournaments. Â Send a PM if near the area! Jamie Quote

backpain... Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 I call Philly home, and just got back into things this past summer. I fish the Delaware river mostly, but plan to hit the Skuke this year. I am also going to hit Raystown for a week this summer as well as Treasure Lake in Clearfield county. Quote
Bassnbrett101 Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 raystwn is a great lake makesure you hit up the weeds with frogs and white spinnerbaits. Â smallies are a little harder to find but they'll hit jerkbaits on ledges, look for jumping baitfish for the schools of fish Quote

For those of you familiar with some of these spots........What lures/bait do you find to be most effective? Towmotor Towmotor, I fish Mauch Chunk a lot. I usually have 5 setups when I fish it and do pretty well. Rocks, sparse weeds, lily pads and man-made structure is where I key on. Here is my list of setups and the colors that do well for me there in spring & summer: Spring: Original Floating Rapala Silver 5 Senko type bait (weightless) Black, Watermelon, Pumpkinseed, Smoke 4 Hand poured worm on a Slider Head jig Dark Purple, Black, Camo Tube Bait Pumpkinseed Soft Plastic Jerkbait (Fluke) White w/black back Summer: Original Floating Rapala Silver 5 Senko type bait (weightless) Black, Watermelon, Green Pumpkin, Purple 7 Senko type bait (weightless) Black, Watermelon, Green Pumpkin, Purple [if there is a cold front, then I go with a 4" wacky rigged instead of the 7"] Rat'L'Trap type bait Silver w/black back (Sunny), Gold w/black back (cloudy) Fat Ika - Green Pumpkin, Black, Watermelon w/red flake Good luck. smizener Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 I am from around Pittsburgh- North Huntingdon. I've fished Moraine a lot, and like it there. Another few good places are Loyalhanna Dam for pike, the three rivers for about anything, and Cranberry Glade. Also, I !HIGHLY! recmomend fishing Geneiva (sp?). That place is pure amazing. We catch anywhere from 1000-2000 crappie a day PER PERSON! Also, on the way into Geneiva, there is a bridge with a small waterfall. On the top, throw cutbait upstream for bowfin. Weve caught 10 pound bowfin in that area consistantly. There are also loads of bass-big bass. We've used aluminum boats with a trolling motor, or took the canoe. You don't even need a fishfinder. Launch your boat, and go to the far end. That is where we get a lot of crappie. Go back into the little tributaries surrounded by weeds for pike or bowfin. The possiblilties are endless, and hardly anyone fishes there. That is no fish story, and I would honestly take a trip to Geneiva instead of the great lakes. Tom, where is this Geneiva Lake you're talking about? Couldn't find it listed on any maps. Anyone else know about this place? Quote
Bassnbrett101 Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Yes i would like to know where this is too Quote
Don B Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Ummmm....smizener & bassnbrett.....just in case you didn't check, tom's post was made almost 3 years ago! And after a post like that, I'm sure that secret crappie honeyhole of his was invaded and probably fished out pretty good since then. Only thing missing was gps coordinates. : Jeezuz! I just checked a little back on this topic...I had even posted in it back then. That was back when I was a member here a few years ago.....and I was still a "newbie" back then! :'( Quote
