Mitch1660 Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 I'm from south eastern Massachusetts, I'm wondering if any of you have a good idea when the LMB's start getting active enough to catch, or if you have any tips on where to go. Also, I know the Shad start running up the Palmer River and it's tributaries some time soon. Any body know exactaly when that happens or what kind of gear I should be using to catch them? I'm dying to catch a fish!!! Winter was too long! Any tips at all for fishing this time of year would be very appreciated. Thanks guys. Quote
tyrius. Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 If you can get your lure in the water then you can catch fish. It's just a matter of going REAL SLOW and picking the right locations. Quote
feldtbass23 Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 mitch, i'm actually from attleboro and i went up to the shad factory yesterday and it was completely clear. Luckily I had my pole with me and threw out a few casts from the dam. Nothin doin' but was still nice to get out. We're good to go as most of the ponds seem to be thawing out. Quote
nboucher Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 I'm in Sharon, and my pond is about one-third ice-free right now. It won't be long before I can get my kayak in there. You can catch LMB 12 months of the year. In fact, some of the largest ones are caught ice fishing around here. I caught one just under seven pounds on March 31 last year, which was about a week and half after ice outwhich was late. I agree with the angler who said take it slow. I usually start with jerkbaits and jigs worked super slowly. Quote

macmaster761 Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 with all the rain we've had lately, the overrun rivers and lakes dont help the catching process, I know i'm dying to catch them too, just got back from florida where i could walk behind my grandparents house throw a line in and pull fish out one after the other, such a tease > Quote
