Buckeye1955 Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 What's your favorite go-to bait for Lake Champlain in the summer? We usually fish in the Carry cove area near Alburg Vt. We fish for both smallies along the old railroad causeway there and for pike and largemouth over the grass in various places. We hit it in early July for a week and have done well with frogs and spinnerbaits over the grass and some crankbaits. We have also used the Gulp minnows on a jighead and done well. Anyone have a another suggestion or a personal favorite for that time of year? Can't wait to get back this year! Quote
Dean Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Fished there a couple times in the morning last year, and my and a buddie fished the rock ledges on the southern end. We pounded them with crankbaits, and caught tons of keepers. We also caught some wierd lookin fish Quote
Buckeye1955 Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 Never thought of that! Ipicked up a herd of paddle tail swm baits this winter. I'm curious to see how they do. We did really well last summer fishing spinner baits over the grass. Quote
its all good Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 I fish there quite often in the summer and have had grat luck on frogs in the thick stuff and a chartruse chatter bait with a gold blade. When I have some open water I throw a northland 2 1/2" mimic minnow with a gold willow leaf spinner blade. Good luck! Quote
Buckeye1955 Posted February 25, 2008 Author Posted February 25, 2008 I picked up several new frogs this winter. I'm looking forward to giving them a try! I fished the chatterbaits hard a couple years ago, but did better on spinner baits last year. When you do get one on a chatterbait, it is usually a good one! Quote
