mackkie Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 I have a new boat, and would like to make some great fishing trips this summer to different lakes in new england. I'm new to the boating scene, so I was hoping to get your imput on some trips I should make this year. I already setup a trip for Lake Umbagog, and Sebago! Quote
fishizzle Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 How about joining a Bass Club? At first you could fish as a nonboater. You will learn the local lakes, the spots and the lures and colors that work there. Tournaments are also a good place to make new friends that share info about non local lakes too. You can also fish other open tourneys as a non boater to learn different lakes. All this will help you save time when you fish on your boat. To find a club, go to the BASS site and find phone numbers of the presidents. The big lakes that I like and are easy to locate fish are Candlewood, Winnepasake and Champlain. Quote
jaymc Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 You didn't say how far you want to go. Just as a general rule, I'd always look for the places closest to home, unless you like burning gas and wearing out tires. Quote
Super User Tin Posted February 3, 2008 Super User Posted February 3, 2008 You don't even have to travel out of Mass. Webster, Long Pond-Harwich, Wequaqet, Sawdy, Ashumet. There are tons of great lakes, especially out towards the Cape. Quote
mackkie Posted February 4, 2008 Author Posted February 4, 2008 My only worry is the overcrowded lakes in Mass. Webster has a billion boats on it every weekend, are these other lakes a bit less crowded? What are some good lakes on the Cape, I've heard there's some great large mouth fishing down that way. Thanks for the responses guys! Quote
SBM-RL Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 If you can get out on wyman lake itll be worth your while I beleave there ramp is closed i know you can get a jon boat or raft on the lake legally. It is got to be just about the best lake in NE Charlie Moore did a show on it. Ive caught a bass over 8 on it my friend had one right around 7 and my brother had one just under 6 I've been out there probly 10 time on a boat so thats solid results. Ive heard of other 8lbers pulled out of there. Quote
HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Long Pond in Harwich It's my favorite place, other then Umbagog! Loaded with LM & SM go beforeMemorial day and after Labor day. Less boat traffic and no fee. Yet it's worth even payong the ramp fee. Bags of 20lbs or more on 5 fish and a regular outing of 12 to 15 lbs plus on 5 fish would be expected. last August got 2 back to back Smallies 4.14 and 4.11 topwater heaven! Quote
