Super User Marty Posted January 6, 2008 Super User Posted January 6, 2008 I know i want spring to come. How are you guys dealing with the winter months. I've lived here all my life and never get used to it. Just like every other year, I b*tch and moan and eventually spring arrives. :'( Quote
tritz18 Posted January 6, 2008 Author Posted January 6, 2008 Haha well we are almost there, a nice sign of spring is 08 spring fishing catalogs arriving. that helps me survive the long winter months. in mass this coming week we are getting 50-60 degree weather so hopefully I may be able to find some open water Quote

Perfect Hook Set Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 "Winter Needs to end really soon" Yeah it does!!! I spent a few bux at bps Yesterday I organized my lures/baits and came to the realization that I need one more box for senkos and BOAT lol I usually fish from shore and dislike carrying any thing more then a decent size book(back)pack, so its a pain to decide what to bring in the ever so changing weather patterns we have up this way Quote
tritz18 Posted January 6, 2008 Author Posted January 6, 2008 I also organized my tackebox, spent a decent amount of money at BPS and watch and read alot about fishing. Just keep hoping for the spring thaw. Quote
Cigarlover 1 Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 We're forecast to have mid 50's here this week in RI.... Could it be ice out in January??? LMAO ;D Now that's just mean. What's wrong with you boy. Quote
Cigarlover 1 Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Reading, watching my fishing dvds and messing around with the new stuff I got for Christmas. That's how I've been dealing. It's setting in bad now though. My new rods and reels are sitting here staring at me laughing. The next two months are going to be loooooong. I think its about time for a trip to BPS. Quote
tritz18 Posted January 7, 2008 Author Posted January 7, 2008 Yea well with temps in the 50s in Mass I might do some casting from a dock this weekend to hold me over for a little while. Honestly I wouldn't care if I caught anything just would like being out there and fishing again. But I would love to catch something ;D Quote

Bassnajr Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I could not let a 65 degree day (1-8-2008) go by without throwing a lure. I went down to the small local park and cast for about half an hour. It was theraputic, even though the old people walking in the park were looking at me like I was a nut!!!! Ma nature is definitely busting our chops here in the North East!!! Quote
luckyinkentucky Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 71 here today. Tornado warnings this afternoon, and it's the beginning of January. I have a feeling we are in for a long winter myself. Winter hasn't even hit here yet. We've not seen 1 inch of snow, and that's unusual for this time of year. It's either going to do one of two things. Either it will be a mild winter, or we will get a late winter, and it won't let up until May. Quote
riverfisher Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 AAAAAAAAAAAW MAN!! Ill take the cover off my boat every once and a while and take a look at her and make sure its comfortable and warm and free of dust in my garage. Take a big wiff and smell it, just has thet smell to it I love. Ill also hop in and have a seat (not often though) and imagine im rippen down the mohawk river, champlain, saratoga, hudson river, ballston lake @ 65-70 MPH uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuug I could go on and on!!!! Iv gone through my tackle at least a couple two, tree, ten times reorganised touched up my lures. this year i have refused to buy too much new stuff but only a few things. I have tackle coming out of my gills and my wife has gotten on my case. So I just look at the catalogs itching to get online or pick up the phone to place an order!! I cant wait ti re-line all my reel's I hold out until the last minute to take care of that. OK now Im really depressed Im gonna have to place an order that'll make me feel better!!! :'( Quote
Perfect Hook Set Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Went out yesterday for about an hour and didn't catch any thing besides weeds and a branch lol Felt good to be casting though wow most of you live an hour plus away from Quote
tritz18 Posted January 9, 2008 Author Posted January 9, 2008 hoping to still try to throw something in the water this weekend. while it is warm, for now. at this point i just need to cast something. Quote
Perfect Hook Set Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 LOL the cold weather is sure to come soon Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Super User Posted January 10, 2008 I'm in Western MA myself and with the 65 yesterday and 55 today, it's looking pretty darn good out there! As a matter of fact there was a rig launching on the Oxbow ramp of the CT river this morning. ;D. Reality check: snowstorm for Tuesday >. Quote
tritz18 Posted January 13, 2008 Author Posted January 13, 2008 Ten inchs of snow are coming tonight, looks like no fishing for a while > Quote
BassFishingMachine Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 I went out the past two days because I just couldn't take it any longer, and I threw Trout Magnets and small crappie jigs. The pond isn't frozen yet and I caught 8-10 crappie and a 18 1/2inch carp on saturday, today was slow though, me and my friend went out and got about 4 crappie all together and one small bass about 4inches tops. The crappie are fun though and im going to keep trying for them until it freezes over. By the way im fishing off the bank at a small pond, so try your luck with small crappie jigs, or trout magnets and see what you get, its better then sitting at home unpatiently waiting for spring. It just feels great to finally hook up with something again, especially that carp! ;D Quote
llPa1nll Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 I went out and shoveled 10inches of snow from my driveway. the boat is covered in snow, there is probably 12-14in of ice on the lake. I am going CRAZY!!!! ;) Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 It's crazy how during the season (from ice-out to ice-up) I feel generally relaxed and generally happy, but when I can't bass fish, I just feel antsy and kinda p'd off. Fishing is seriously like a drug addiction :-? All I think about all week is when I get to go trout fishing during the weekend (which is not quite as satisfying as bass fishing, but enough to get my 'fix'), and when I'm finally out there on the stream, I just feel relaxed and happy. It's crazy Quote

It's crazy haha, i know just what you mean. it's like i'm always on edge, unless i know i'm gonna be out on the ice on the weekend, which in that case i'm happier than a pig in... well, you know. the day there's enough open water for me to throw a line in is the day i kiss the winter blues good bye. logger Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 We have a projected high of 18 today here in Northern MI. Yesterday it didn't get above 10. We have a heat wave coming this weekend and its supposed to be in the mid 30's. I will be attending tip up town at Houghton Lake this weekend hopefully its not too cold. I love Michigan but man I hate these winters. Its the worst time of year in my opinion. Can't bass fish, can't bird hunt, too cold to even work outside on the boat. I am actually going to hit one of the rivers in 2 weeks with some buddies for some steelhead just to get some casts in. Anyone trout fish in the Boyne Mountain area? have any suggestions/ locations for this time of year?? Quote
