jwo1124 Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Ok, well we are having a freakish heat wave for this time of year. Earlier today I drove past a digital thermometer and it read 66*, last week we had a day in the teens. Today's high is suppose to be 70, all week highs are about 45, and lows are all above freezing. DO you think this could be warm enough to melt the ice? Quote

The sad thing is I was talking to my friend in Tyngsboro, Ma and on his lake he was on it Monday and he drilled a hole and the ice was 11inches thick. I came home today from a Drs appt and there were ATVs out on the ice ice fishing on my home lake. I think we are in for a long long winter maybe ice out in mid April. Quote
Masshole Mike Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 i was on the ice saturday and sunday out here in central ma and we had 8-10" easy. i don't think a couple days of warm weather will be enough to melt the ice completely when it's that thick, but it's sure gonna make things a mess for a little bit. isn't there a big storm coming in from the west that's supposed to dump on us soon? oh yeah, between 3 of us we caught 30+ fish on sunday, and we were only on the ice for about 4 hours. mostly perch with a couple pickerel mixed in. the pond we were on doesn't have any bass, but there are some big perch in there. we each caught at least three 1lb+ perch. there's a big tourney coming up january 26th. cash prizes given away every 5 minutes (no lie, they draw a name every 5 minutes for the duration of the tourney) and cash prizes for biggest bass, pickerel, perch and i'm sure other species. i think it's for any lake in central ma. i'll try to find more info if anyone's interested. jwo1124 Posted January 8, 2008 Author Posted January 8, 2008 Oh Well. A guy can dream can't he? I can't wait until April. I don't hate ice fishing, but I like actively casting...it keeps me attentive and focused. Ice fishing is too much like sitting around doing nothing for me. I'll probably get out there a few times though on the weekends and try my luck. I have to get a new fishing license though. I suggest everyone do the same too. Don't forget, it is a new year. Quote
Masshole Mike Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 i picked up my license last week so i'm all set. i feel the same way, i'd much rather be casting than setting up tip-ups, but if it means catching fish then i'm all about it. i go ice fishing with my sister's boyfriend and his brother, once the tip-ups are setup we pretty much just hangout, shoot the *****, drink some beers and enjoy being outside for a change. i'm cooped up inside all week so i look forward to getting out on the ice every weekend. once springtime rolls around and i can go throw a line in after work i'll be fishing 3-5 times a week, but for now spending a sunday on the ice will have to do. Super User ww2farmer Posted January 9, 2008 Super User Posted January 9, 2008 HAHAHA what a dreamer.................IF and only IF it was warm enough to melt the ice, it's still January, it will be froze over again in a few days. Quote
