bassdocktor Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Last weekend pike were on at Gun. We had our final tournament there and lots of pike. Pretty much were hitting everything for me including the dropshot. 2 weeks ago they were on big time over at Muskrat lake in I believe Allegan county. I had one come off at the boat about 36 and one guy boated one over 36. Plus many around 18" Mine all came on fire tiger cranks over on Muskrat. Quote
logger Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 Good news there doc thanks for the report. I could really use some help on Loon lake in the Hale area. I am fishing there Saturday and don't know anything about it other than it has good numbers of pike walleye and bass. thanks Logger Quote
michbass Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Hopefully the cooler weather will put them in a fall pattern. Until yesterday surface temps have been around 70. The pike have been active on a lot of the local lakes I go too. This weekend is looking nice 60's and sunny. Plenty of time to get in some good fishing though. Best of luck to you. Quote
The Duke Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 I was on Randall Chain Sunday and struggled. I had water temp @ 74! Awfully hot for October 7. This cold front is gonna make it tough again for a few days, but eventually should get a good fall pattern going. All of my fish were caught shallow, but most of the guys that caught keepers (only 5 of 28) caught them on breaks. My partner had a keeper in shallow water. The previous weekend I was on Palmer and just smoked them. It was awesome. All fish were shallow and feeding. To my surprise though; I haven't had any pike bite me lately. I guess I'm lucky. Quote
logger Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Duke and michbass when you say a fall pattern, what does that look like for you? Are you changing location and lures or just lures, just trying to pick your brains a little. I have never done much fall fishing. Quote
The Duke Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 That means my trolling motor is on high and I'm throwing horizontal, fast-moving baits like spinnerbaits, cranks, etc. I'm fishing shallow as well. There isn't much of a need to fish extremely slow like the summer months demand. Quote
logger Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Thanks Duke that was what I had in mind but wnated to be sure, Logger Quote
rocknfish9001 Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 I caught a bass that was 22 inches, going anywhere from 6 1/2 to 7lbs the other day. It was from black lake, which is in berrien county. Pic in my avatar Quote

Pic in my avatar Great fish! I wish my last trip went as well. I broke my prop, trolling motor battery went dead and my pedestal seat broke. To say the least the 1 pike I caught didn't exactly make it all worth while. Quote
detroit1 Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 Well, i'm now done for the year. Went out yesterday (11/4) and caught 3. A 12" sm on a wee-r, and 2 lm (a fat 15") on a dropshot. It sucks having to decide when your last trip of the year will be, but we got to do it. The water temp was 50 degrees, and no fall turnover yet. 41 trips this yr. without being shutout. First time that's happened for me. Quote
The Duke Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 The season is far from over! I figure as long as there is no ice, I'm fishing. I was out yesterday and caught a dozen smallmouth that were as fat as footballs! I love it when they're FAT! There's an awful lot of fishing left. Quote
bassdocktor Posted November 5, 2007 Author Posted November 5, 2007 Any body hitting the small lakes or just big ones? I'm think of hitting a few of the smaller lakes this weekend if I get up to MI. bassdocktor Quote
michbass Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Planning on getting out this weekend if it is going to be nice. They are calling for low 50's and sunny so sounds good, been snow/rain mix and cloudy the past week. Just planning on local small lake though. Quote
The Duke Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I'm planning on going to Klinger this weekend. I hear there's a tourney there THanksgiving weekend and I'd like to fish it. Should be a different bite than I've been experiencing. Everything was shallow last weekend, but with the cold front that water temp may be below 50 and backed those fish off. We'll see. Quote
Ballistik Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Mich what we will be doing is just casting for hours because the fish just arnt hitting but oh well its just good to get out. Quote
michbass Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Mich what we will be doing is just casting for hours because the fish just arnt hitting but oh well its just good to get out. You can say that for sure. Mid 40's and not any luck :'( Quote
agrregmies Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 fished the south shore on st clair last weekend and cought plenty of smallmouth, this is the time of year that if you find them you realy find them good and lipless cranks are the ticket in 4 to 8ft. I fish all the way to dec 31st on st clair and erie, down on erie in the city of monroe theres a power plant thats uses water for cooling and they discharge into what we call the hot pond and it starts getting good about now and an average day is 25 fish best 5 about 16lbs mostley largies. it can be snowing and 30 or less degrees in december with water temp on erie in the high 30's but the hot pond water temp will be in the mid 60's and the air temp will stay above freezing becouse of the warm water so it wont foul up the guides with ice. you should see the fog from the hot water and cold air. I will attatch a pic of me and a buddy from dec 30th 2006 in the hot pond off erie we had a little fun team tourney we had 13lbs and 16 won it. Quote
michbass Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Anyone still fishing? Have to try to do a get together with the locals at on of the Fishing shows this winter? Quote
agrregmies Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 the smallies in breast bay and colchester are going full bore, guys are averaging 50 smallies each with most well over 3 lbs, I went to the hot pond sunday and I got 11 lm and my buddy got 10, we had a couple 3's and about 10 that were 2lbs or better, I got a 5-2 largie in there the week before. by the way the hot pond on lk erie is very dangerous to get to right now due to low water levels and the westerley winds pushing the water levels down so dont try it without someone that is very familier with the pond. motocross269 Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Cast and blast you are a die hard....I have been digging out my ice fishing equipment.. Last year in December was pretty warm...I remember I rode my MX bike in January, It looks like it is going to be a little colder this year.. Hopefully this rain and snow we have had this week will raise the lake levels some..I live on the north branch of the clinton river, it has the first good flow of water since spring.. Quote
agrregmies Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 hey brian nice to see you here. water flowing stronger in the clinton is good news, I sure hope st clair gets back up by spring for the smallie spawn but Im sure I will find them regardless, I hate winter but on the other hand its the last season to get ready for the good stuff wish we had a few more days of above freezing weather Id like to get out one more time for the smallmouth on erie but looks like the rod guides would be freezing up from here on out and thats a pain. nice thing about the hot pond is the air temp is allmost allways above freezing so as long as the ice at the ramp is thin enough to launch I will be breaking it with the skeeter and headed to the pond you should have seen the icicles hanging off the trailer when we got back in ;D looks like Im out for the BFL next season I have a plan wich involves saving$$$$ to fish the tour if I get confirmed. it sucks that I cashed checks at 3 or 4 BFL's this year and Im still no where near breaking even so I realy only want to fish stuff that if I cash a check I can put some cash in my pocket instead of still being in debt on the gas card sooo digging out the ice chit eh... me too, I just bought the portable buddy heater at gander last week all I need is some waxies, Im sure we will fish some hard water together soon. ttyl skip Quote

motocross269 Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Cast and Blast..Get ahold of me once the ice gets hard..I think we live about 20 miles apart.. I have one of those buddy heaters..They are the best. I think you would do great on the tour..You are right about the BFL paybacks. I was looking hard at fishing the Stren tour next year, but had a couple of financial setbacks this year so I am going to have to wait a couple of years. Right now I am only planning on fishing the LSC BFL, and the Team Bass club tourneys..They are a great group and we are going to fish some sweet water this year. B Quote
agrregmies Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 I feel your pain with the financial setbacks, up until the last couple years that was a foreighn language to me I hope something changes soon with michigans economy. I have a clam 2000 2 man shanty looks like we will be on the hard water real soon lots of ice forming everywhere, I will get ahold of you when its time. Quote
