Boett43 Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 The Pepco Power plant bite was ON today..me and my budie caught 41 bass between us the largest being a 2.5 pound smallmouth wich aint bad for around here..hopefully i can get some pics up Quote
basser89 Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 I had a chance to hit PEPCO yesterday. What a polar opposite from when you were there Boett!!!!! The river was REALLY low! Even though they were discharging, I couldn't buy a bite from the Potomac. On my way out, I remembered seeing a bass or two in the canal on previous outings and thought what the heck. I pitched a tube around some of the wood and had a taker! Only pulled one out, but it was stocky little 2 pounder. I probably won't hit there again until the levels come up at least a foot or two! Boett43 Posted November 12, 2007 Author Posted November 12, 2007 yeah it was pretty low when i was there..did you try fishing directly in the heavy current? and i took the path back where you can walk next to the potomac and i saw about 5 good size bass probaly around 2-3 pounds but i didnt know how to approach them when you can see them soo good. Ive seen some pretty big ones in the canal too you wouldnt belive how many people i talk to down there think the canal is the river and they dont realize the river is about 50 yards past the trees haha Quote
basser89 Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 I fished with the current, against the current, quartering the current...... yeah, I tried about anyway you can think of! LOL! I even hit the eddies too. It was just a rough day! On my way in, I past two guys coming up out and they didn't have any luck in there either. I've come across the situation you described. When I have that situation, I'll get low to the ground and get just above them and make a cast on a 45 above them with a tube and swim it with the current almost to them. Once it gets close, I kill the bait and let it fall. That usually works for me. A weightless stick bait (like a Senko) would work well to in that instance. Yeah, I've had a few comments about the canal as well. "I thought it would be wider?" was the best one I've heard! Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted November 13, 2007 Super User Posted November 13, 2007 Basser....I'm still waiting for an invite to some of the MD waters : LOL Quote
Boett43 Posted November 13, 2007 Author Posted November 13, 2007 Hey Basser where is that bass from in your avatar picture ..hopefully its somewhere in MD i can get to haha Quote
basser89 Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Hey Boett, I do fish a few private ponds on occasion with one of my friends, the bass in my avtar is one I caught at lunchtime at Black Hills back in May. She's was 5lbs 5oz and measured right around 22". Not the biggest I've seen there, but it is the biggest one I've landed. Here's a bigger shot of her! Quote
basser89 Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Ok, that didn't work as I thought it would! LOL! You can check out a bigger pic on myfishingpictures.com. Do a search on basser89! Quote
Boett43 Posted November 14, 2007 Author Posted November 14, 2007 Is black hill the same as Boyds or am i Confused? An you got an hotspots close to frederick you can share with me?..One more what did you catch that 5 lber on? Thansk Boett Quote
basser89 Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Boyds is the small town just outside of Black Hills regional park. I believe the proper name of the lake is Little Seneca Creek Lake (funny name for a 505 acre lake eh? ). Hotspots? Hmmm, well I can tell you where I've fished! LOL! None have really been hot for me lately. I fish the pond in Middletown on occasion (its REALLY low right now too), Cunningham Falls (up by Thurmont) and Greenbrier (out off 40 towards Hagerstown) and of course Dickerson (PEPCO). The Monacacy is supposed to have some decent spots (I've never found any on the very limited times I've hit it and that's been years ago!). Your last question is an easy one! "Weapon of choice? Give me a spinnerbait!" 4 out of my top 5 bass have all been caught on spinnerbaits! My second largest was on a Zoom Brush Hog and she came out of Cunningham Falls. Quote
MskSlyr Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 To add to the conversation Boett there are many really good private ponds that can be found in Frederick County. I fish with Basser89 on some sweet private ponds that have produced numerous fish over 7lbs (serious as a heartattack). Getting permission is not like asking to hunt in MD, you can still get people to give you permission to fish ponds. Most of the ones we have found have been dumbluck but we have probably 6 or more now that have quality fish with many between the two of us over 5lb including a 10lb 2oz hog pictured below. Basser would have equalled that more than likely we just have not had a chance to get out. So keep your eyes open and don't be afraid to ask. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted November 14, 2007 Super User Posted November 14, 2007 Well Sean.....Ponds too eh? LOL Quote
Boett43 Posted November 14, 2007 Author Posted November 14, 2007 Hey there MskSlyr would you mind sharing where you caught that hawg at if its not too top seceret haha what did you get her on? I tried fishing the middletown pond today and dont even bother there are about a million geese ahha and its reallly low and covered in feathers and goose crap Thanks Boett Quote
MskSlyr Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Sure no problem Boett that particular bass was caught from a private pond outside of Walkersville. The big girl fell victim to a chatterbait in the fall. Last fall the chatterbait bite was excellent and over a two week period out of ponds all over Frederick County 7 bass over six pounds fell. I have a tendency to work a chatterbait very erratically in the fall very similar to working a jerkbait and the pause time is the key. Quote
Boett43 Posted November 15, 2007 Author Posted November 15, 2007 is it very hard to find in walkersville and how do you go about asking the private pond owners Quote
MskSlyr Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Well I would not worry about Walkersville all that much those were just a couple examples of ponds. They are not visible from any road and there are only four people allowed in those including Basser89. I typically do not go out of my way but in my travels if I see a pond I just go ask. You will get turned down once in awhile but the quality of the ponds have made it worth it for those you get access to. A lot of ponds are overlooked but if they don't get a lot of pressure the quality of the fish have been quite amazing for a more northern state. Here is another from another pond that came from Frederick County and this should help with the courage to ask. The one in the pic is 7lbs plus and three bigger than that have fallen. Quote
