Korea_Bassin Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I've been looking at some of the pics posted by T-Rig from Switzerland and figured I'd post a few photos of some Largemouth caught here in Korea. These aren't recent photos. Here is a photo with a couple of fish taken during a pro-am tournament a couple of years ago. Quote
Korea_Bassin Posted January 12, 2008 Author Posted January 12, 2008 And here are a couple more smaller ones my partner and I took during a different tournament on a different lake. We placed 4th in this tourney. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted January 12, 2008 Super User Posted January 12, 2008 Very nice looking fish! It amazes me that bass can be found in so many countries. Quote
Korea_Bassin Posted January 15, 2008 Author Posted January 15, 2008 I'm in Songtan, which is the city just outside of Osan Air Basek about 30 miles south of Seoul. I work in Seoul. Quote

Korea_Bassin Posted January 16, 2008 Author Posted January 16, 2008 Nice fish. What's the record LM for Korea? I can't remember exactly, but it seems like I remember it being something like 11 lbs XX oz. If I can find out more accurately, I'll post it. Quote
Wesley Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 I wish I would have known there was bass fishing in Korea when I was there!!! Stay off the big Hill in Seoul Quote
Super User Micro Posted February 11, 2008 Super User Posted February 11, 2008 What's the fishing community like in Korea? Obviously it's huge in Japan, but so much good stuff comes out of Korea that I'd guess it's a huge sport there as well. Quote
Korea_Bassin Posted February 12, 2008 Author Posted February 12, 2008 What's the fishing community like in Korea? Obviously it's huge in Japan, but so much good stuff comes out of Korea that I'd guess it's a huge sport there as well. Bass fishing is a growing sport here although the majority of fishermen here still go for carp and other indegenous species. It seems that you are either one or the other, but can't be both here unlike in the states, where a person may go for trout this weekend, bass the next, and then crappie or catfish the next. The carp is the standard "sport fish" in these parts though it seems. But, as I said, bass fishing is growing rapidly here. They have two pro leagues although they are nothing like what we think of as a pro leagues in the U.S. None of the "pros" here fish for a living. The top prize in a contest "MIGHT" be $5000, but usually more like $2000. It's all mostly for fun and comaraderie. The guys that fish the leagues are pretty well off though. Most of them have American bass boats that they went to the states and bought and then had shipped back here. It is cheaper to do that than to buy new here and pay for the import taxes (import taxes on such luxury items can be up to 75-100%...how's that for fair trade...aye?) so I'm told. I am friends with one of the guys who is normally in the top 10 in one of the leagues. The dude works about 3 months a year and plays the rest of the time...oh to be so lucky. (His SUV stereo system cost over $20,000...crazy!!!!) He teaches snow skiing in the winter (the only K2 qualified instructor in the country so I'm told), teaches diving in the summer and then bass fishes whenever he wants. He has nothing but the newest and best equipment and flat out knows how to fish! Ahh, but I digress.... There is some excellent bass fishing to be had here although there is no danger of the next world record bass coming out of this place any time soon. They have a pretty good ratio of 3 lber's and up with anything in the 10 lb category making the fishing headlines. (The country record is somewhere around 11 lbs I think and I will find out more accurately when I talk to my friend again.) They have only had bass over here since the late 60s-early70s if what I have read and been told is true. It isn't that difficult to catch a 2-3 lber quite regularly. 5 lbers are somewhat common on one particular lake on the eastern side of the country (which is where the two in my avatar came from) and other areas produce large numbers of fish up to 5-6 lbs. As far as their fishing styles, they do a lot of finess fishing with drop shotting (down shot as they call it) being the most popular. However, that isn't the style of the guy I fish with. He fishes fast and that is one thing that stuck out to me from the first time I fished with him. We would pull up to a point make a couple of tosses to the obvious places (him with multiple rods/lures...me still trying to make the perfect cast to another location) and then its "let's go...nothing here" and off we were to another location. I'll have to say, we have never failed to make limit though (four "pro-am" tournaments) with our best finish coming in fourth place which earned me all of a custom rod (nothing special). I am still amazed at how fast he fishes and changes locations. I have tried to tell myself to try the same technique when I am fishing alone, but when I pull up on a place I think should hold some fish, I find it hard to leave until I'm satisfied that nothing is there. If there is other (or more specific) information you would like to have about bass fishing here, let me know. I'd be more than glad to tell anyone more about it. By the way...if anyone is interested in either of the two "pro bass" leagues I spoke of, here are the websites (mostly in Korean, but with a photo gallery at the bottom.) http://www.sportfishing.co.kr/ http://www.kbass.co.kr/ Good luck...enjoy. Korea_Bassin Posted March 4, 2008 Author Posted March 4, 2008 Nice fish. What's the record LM for Korea? I can't remember exactly, but it seems like I remember it being something like 11 lbs XX oz. If I can find out more accurately, I'll post it. Well, it took me a while to find the answer to this but I finally have it. As with any fisherman, my memory was off by a couple of pounds to the heavy . The record LM Bass in Korea is 4100 grams (9.03 lbs) and 62.5 cm (24.61 inches) caught at SaNamJi Resovoir in 2006. (Koreans usually measure length instead of weight except in tournaments.) I'm surprised at how difficult it was to find this information though... Quote
BnK Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 Nice Andong fish man, I'm in Korea but I'm in the Southern part. I live only one hour away from SanNam Ji where the record bass was caught !!!! Quote
