Big Gull Lake

I'm considering renting a cabin on this lake, next summer, and wondered if anyone has experience fishing this lake. Any good?

Sorry Fishbone, I've never fished Big Gull lake. It looks like there'll be some big smallies in there though.

I've fished a couple lakes in the land o Lakes area but haven't fished Big Gull. Kashwakamak is my favorite, Heres a good article that talks about Bill Gull and 2 other lakes in the area.

my buddy has a place on big gull, I make it up there every now and then, it's a beautiful place. The fishing is great, abundance of large and smallmouth, walleye and pike. Rent the cabin you wont be sorry.

Yeah I own a cottage up on that like on the eastern end. Fishing is terrific, smallmouth are pretty much everywhere. I have fished up there for the past 20 years, and on the last trip I just found some new spots. Key is to find the humps, it'll jump from like 10 to 20 ft and back up to 8 all in a hundred meter section so the bottom really varies. I have been snorkeling up there and even seen some monster largemouths like 8-10lbs, 2-4lb smallmouth are very common. Senkos are easily the best way to catch them although I recently was using spinnerbaits and had great success. You can even do some god frogging back in some of the coves. This lake is very versatile, walleye fishing is good, they have actually been stocking them lately. Pike fishing is great also. Not sure if they still rent on the east end but if they do I have some spots for you to try out. I don't know much about the west side because we just have a little row boat with a 9.9 so getting down that way is tough. If you have any questions just let me know.

If you're seeing largemouth bass in the 8-10 lbs range, you better start fishing that lake more often. The Ontario record is 10.43 lbs and has been that way since 1976.
