My firts choice is Xcalak, near the Belize border.  Being so remote there is nothing for my wife to do.........I don't get to go Mexico without her..............haha.

So a Cancun resort hotel is going to be my destination.

And in a Cancun resort she will have lots of things to don 't faint when her credit card bill arrives home, I don 't get it how come women always find a way to purchase all sorts of junk like shoes and clothes where you are supposed to be in a place where there ain 't no shoes and clothes to purchase.  :-?

I hired a guide and fished a day. BIG mistake. Enjoy

the beach, the resort and do some clubbing. Forget about

fishing, it's nothing more than "tourist fishing" and a total

waste of time.

I am totally serious... >;)

Hmmmmmmm, interesting info.

I have fished many places in Mexico but not Cancun and never done any light tackle inshore fishing in Mexico, only offshore charters.

I would go offshore 1 day, but my truelove is snook, bonefish, juvy tarpon.

Appreciate the input.

SirSnook,

I just returned from the cancun area (riviera maya) and went down to ascension bay for a day of backcountry fishing.  i would've gotten my first grand slam if it werent for a tarpon tearing off the front treble early in the day.  we targeted permit and tarpon but the area is world renowned for its bonefishing.  i'd highly recommend doing a day trip down there.  it was easily the most beautiful saltwater fishing setting id ever experienced.  feel free to pm me if you want anymore info.

Duma, you're my new idol.

I've been down that way a few times but never fishing, golf at Playa de Carmen, Coxumel, and Xcaret.  It's only an hour or so drive. A good guide is a must down there.

We get the occasional bonefish off the beach in Palm Beach County, but it's rare and it isn't the same. 10# bonefish realing off 100 yards of line, does it get better?

I fished Ascension Bay, Boca Pila, a couple of years ago. A totally awesome bonefishing trip. Caught a lot of bones, a couple of nice permit, but no tarpon on that trip.

The Cancun lagoon is some great flats fishing, with the right guide. I've caught bonefish, baby tarpon, barracuda, snapper, grouper, pompano and snook out of the lagoon. Hooked a small blacktip shark once, but didn't land him on 10lb test spinning tackle.

Depending on the weather, wind I mean, Isla Blanca can be a great choice. A little farther away, but a lot less traffic.

Enrique, the guy with the bandana around his neck is by far the best guide I've been with in that area, and I've been with several. I go to Cancun almost every January, and fish one day on every trip.

PM me if you want to talk about it.

Last time I went to Cancun I had a drink in the left and my right arm around a beautiful woman. Who could think about fishing?

Must be twins from other mothers.

;D ;D ;D

SirSnook,

I brought my girlfriend down who doesn't fish and she loved it!  I hate to admit she actually outfished me, but she did lol.  She caught a really big permit and 4 other species.  The lodge we used doesn't charge for an extra person on the boat and picked us up with their shuttle from our hotel for the daytrip.

...Who knows, you may be able to convert your wife into one of us ;)

Not likely of her getting intersted unless the boat didn't have a head but a "powder room"

Fished for permit in islamorada but my attempts have failed. Very ilusive fish to catch from what I'm told.
