MO_LMB Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 I heard lone elk is a pay lake is that correct? I fished it 2 years ago in September. Caught about 75 bass in 4hours between the four of us. Loaded with small bass 10-14". Ever since it developed a leak about 15 years ago, it's never been the same. Quote
Abuss55 Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Hello everyone, I am from Imperial and got into bass fishing about 3 years ago. Prior to that I was pretty much only a trout fisherman once a year but then I got into a small trout tournament on Taneycomo and fishing has turned from a pastime, to a passion, and now to an obsession. I try and get out 5 times a week, unfortunately I dont have a boat, and if there are fish in the water I will try to fish it! I am signing up for the BFL tournament at LOZ in october as a co-angler so I am very excited about that, and I am always looking to learn more not only about where to fish but how to fish. 1 Quote
Canyon explorer Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 I live in Chesterfield. I fish the Meramac...mostly for SM. Just wondering if Baldwin Lake is big enough to take a boat? The best fishing in Baldwin Lake is off shore from a boat. A natural creek bed winds its way thru the lake. Some areas are better than others having stumps scattered along the old channel banks. You can find them with a depth recorder then use ranges on the buildings to return to the area. Takes patience. I do not consider it a big bass potential lake. Baldwin is like a big dish, kind of boring as related to scenic views. Drive another 30 minutes to Kincaid and the overall fishing is much better; including Muskie. Quote
AndyNegus94 Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Ha, it is a small world. I grew up on Mid Rivers and Hwy N and now I live a minute or two from Mexico and Bryan Rd. Really small world, I live off spencer by the library. Quote
aweiss90 Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Im also right there with you Andy, i live at 94 and mid rivers off of pitman hill. Quote

It's best to go there during the week, or late in the afternoon on the weekends. Quote

I haven't caught a LM smaller than 17 inches out of Baldwin and I have only caught one SM under 17 there. It has much bigger bass and it fits my fishing style better than Coffeen. I haven't been to Baldwin in a LONG time, used to be good for numbers of small LM, guess they've grown up.. When did they get SM, I would have thought the water would be too warm. Quote

Problem is there's no place close to spend the night.. Quote

I fish the Meremac locally and I am going to start fishing Horseshoe Lake in Granite City. BTW LOZ is on fire right now. Get down there if you can. Baldwin had a major fish kill last summer. Last winter it was an amazing lake. Several 20# limits. This year I had one day with 19#s and not another day w more than 3 keepers. I know it's an old post but, how did the horseshoe trip work out. I've only been there once and the water is VERY shallow. Lots of gar and nothing else.... Quote
baldbassguy33 Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 I'm from down in Imperial as well. I hit up all of the local ponds but mainly focus on Creve Couer/Mallard lake. It's right around the corner from my work so I can go get my line wet for an hour during lunch. Quote
TPowers81 Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Where is Baldwin Lake? In the StL area? BTW I'm out in St Chuck county! Quote

It's a power plant lake down near Red Bud and, well, Baldwin, IL. It's a decent lake in the winter when it's cold and the water is warm. Kirkwood here. Wish there were some better lakes that were within an hour of St Louis. LOZ, TR, BS, and Stockton are all great but a bit far for a day fishing trip. Quote
