Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 27, 2013 Global Moderator Posted October 27, 2013 Zero'd at Kill Creek. The place was packed when we got there, no boating etiquette on the water. The trout were a blast, I wanted to keep them baaaaad. I think lack of shad in the water makes that place impossible in cold water. 53 degrees was the warmest we found. We are doing Gardner tomorrow. I actually caught a solid keeper at Gardner last time I was there a week ago pitching a black neon tube to the weedline towards the south end. Quote
kylek Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Heading out to Melvern in the morning with my father in law. We are planning on being there around 7:30 and hoping for a good day. I think we are going to stick close to the dam most of the day. Probably fish some around the marina are and in the cove north of the east boat ramp.  Did anyone have any luck on topwater? Would you guys suggest starting out at the dam or in the cove by the east ramp?  Thank you Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted October 27, 2013 Super User Posted October 27, 2013 I've never had any top water luck at Melvern. You can't fish within100' of the docks or marina. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 27, 2013 Global Moderator Posted October 27, 2013 I never fished a topwater Thursday but I did catch a couple on a spinnerbait. Not knowing the lake very well I'd suggest sticking to the dam. We didn't do any good around the marina or the south side points. Don't be discouraged if it takes awhile to figure them out, we didn't catch much of anything for the first 3 hours Thursday until we started to catch them. Quote
SuperFluke Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I was thinking of taking tomorrow off and would have an empty backseat. Coffey County is the target (melvern as backup if it is closed for some reason). Any takers? Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted October 28, 2013 Super User Posted October 28, 2013 Hey guys, winter is supposed to be a good time to buy a boat so as long as the wife doesn't divorce me I'll be in the market. Ive been looking to see what's available but a bunch of extra eyes can't help. I'm looking for a glass (or Bullet) boat that MUST be at least 150hp and is fuel injected. I'd like it to be at least a 1998 or newer and would prefer a dual console. I'm haven't been told (lol) my budget yet but I'd like to be in the 6-12k range. I know that's a swing but You'd be surprised some 6k boats are nicer than a dealers 12k boat. Pm me if you see something I may be interested in. Thanks! Quote
Chris S Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I fished Olathe the past few days, first trip Saugs at 20.5, 19.5 and 18 and a few short wipers, 2nd trip dink bass and a 18.5 wiper, Saturday was real slow so I moved from the "hot spot" went into one of the coves and first cast nailed a 19 wiper, all on lipless crankbait. You can't fish within100' of the docks or marina. smaller walking baits (the ones with 2 trebles instead of 3). Every time I've thrown one in the morning out there, I caught fish. Â Speaking of catching fish, that is something I did not do on saturday. Ran into drew out at la cygne saturday. It was tougher than last week. There was a tourney I was thinking of fishing out there next week but with how I've done the past two weeks, I might save my money and just go to melvern haha. Quote

cbass12 Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 There's a '99 Ranger on craigslist with a 115 Johnson for $8500. Dual console and a really nice looking boat. I know that's less HP than you want but just thought I would throw it out there. I've been in a boat similar to this that only had a 90 HP and it went over 50 mph. Quote

Super User Hi Salenity Posted October 29, 2013 Super User Posted October 29, 2013 I actually like that one allot! It's older than what I want but the motor is perfect! I love the look of the Mercs on Bullets. This one is further away and probably out of my price range but it looks like a great package. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&sqi=2&ved=0CCgQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.boattrader.com%2Flisting%2F2001-Bullet-20XD-102117293&ei=Yv1uUvzzFM-l2AXww4GYAw&usg=AFQjCNE28WsWu-we64yythXcu28jyMJBnQ&sig2=-mXwiecIZUbwaKLh0vQ65w&bvm=bv.55123115,d.b2I Quote
sizzlefry Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 fished wolf creek with fluke today and it started a little crazy called down and they said fishing was on when we got there it was completely fogged in so no go for almost 2 hours. we waited it out got on the water and fluke bottoms out the transducer but to our surprise he fixed it and the graphics worked better. just on time cause we marked our first spot and pulled around 30 smallies off of it and probably hooked and lost just as many. my 2 biggest went 2 lbs and 2.55 pounds. we tried a few other spots but no go so we went back and no change smallies stacked in a 100 yard stretch. mostly used 3 inch watermelon tubes 4 inch storm swim bait and a little square bill shad. thx fluke for the seat had a great time. Super User Hi Salenity Posted October 29, 2013 Super User Posted October 29, 2013 I've been wanting to fish that place again. I'm going to have to make a trip out that way soon. How was the security? The last time I fished it was just after 9-11 and they searched your boat on the way in and out. Do you still have to wear your freaking life jacket? Do you still get a pager before you get on the water? Quote
cbass12 Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 50 won't be fast enough. Just saying that the one I rode in went that fast, the 115 would be more but maybe not enough for you. Quote
cbass12 Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 You do still have to wear your lifejacket and get a pager, but the guys at the gate aren't as bad as they used to be. The older guy that was a total a-hole doesn't work there anymore. I wear a stearns inflatable belt jacket and usually can't even tell I'm wearing it. Quote

Water looks like it was really clear out there. Sounds like you guys caught more smallies then I've ever caught out there in all my trips combined. Bad thing is you just don't have the shot at the big fish out there like you do at Melvern. Quote
