pbrussell Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Heading to table rock next week, but water is two feet above normal pool and rising. More rain looks like a certainty as well. I'll be launching around indian point. I'm already a little concerned about the possibility of floating debris. How high is too high on this lake? How concerned should I be about said debris? If I can be certain I'm not gonna be hitting any logs with my new boat, it sounds like it could end up being a find and flip the bushes bite. Looking for any words of wisdom you guys can give me regarding this situation (mostly concerning safety).  Thanks. Quote
MXHalofan Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Hey guys, need some info about titling a boat motor in MO. I've tried calling the DMV's and waited on hold forever. The lines have been too long to wait. Â Looking at a boat with no title for the motor. Can I still title it with a good bill of sale? Is there anything else that needs to be done? Thanks Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 10, 2013 Global Moderator Posted August 10, 2013 Almost as cool as the giant goldfish out of troost lake. There's some huge coi in Wyandotte. I saw one almost every time I was out there last year that had to be pushing 20 pounds. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 10, 2013 Global Moderator Posted August 10, 2013 Fished Wabaunsee Thursday in the rain. We had 2 boats out there so we started with Jon and Jared in Jared's boat and Jon's son and I in my boat. Christopher and I were on fish right out the gate and really never slowed down much. For some reason a large number of them were smaller smallmouths but when we caught a largemouth it was 15-19 inches. Jon and Jared was a different story, they struggled pretty bad all day. I think a really big key was to slow way down and really fish slow. They were also on a very specific location on each dock and it was the same spot on each dock. Once we figured that out it was pretty easy but couldn't find any big ones for some reason. Christopher lost a largemouth and smallmouth over 3 on back to back cast on the same dock on a hula grub. I got busted off by a big fish on the same dock, never saw her but she pretty much beat me from start to finish. I was doing best on a finesse jig and Christopher never really put the hula grub down once he figured out how to fish it. Once we switched I had Jared in my boat who had yet to catch a fish at 11am. I gave him a hula grub and told him not to let it lose contact with the bottom the whole way in. The few times he actually fished it that slow he caught fish, probably ended up with 10-12 for the day and started to catch them pretty good on a tube off the dam. Jon started to do better once he saw how slow Christopher was fishing. Jon fished a Slammer a lot and caught a couple, we were right by him when he caught the first one. My biggest of the day (that I weighed) was a 3lb 3oz smallmouth on a finesse jig in about 17' of water. Most the largemouth I caught were about the same size as this smallie was, just not as exciting. Lots of really big carp cruising around for some reason. There's at least one less than there was Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Clayton the Exterminator. How was the water color? This rain affected it much? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 11, 2013 Global Moderator Posted August 11, 2013 Clayton the Exterminator. How was the water color? This rain affected it much? It was still a really nice water color, couple feet of visibility with a good greenish tint to it. It was dirtier towards the back of the coves with creeks but it always is. Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 I bet if Butler had more depth back toward the creek, it wouldnt have muddied the whole lake so bad. Half the lake is 6ft or less at normal pool. Quote
Doc-Drew Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Took my wife and a friend to Wabaunsee yesterday. The conditions had changed quite a bit from Clayton's report. We had only about 8-12" of visibility with a nasty green slime on the surface. We caught roughly 30 fish between the 3 of us but really only 3 worth mentioning. I caught a pretty skinny 17" largemouth on a finesse jig that weighed 2.87 lbs. My buddy Cameron caught a 17" largemouth that weighed 3.42 lbs on a 4" worm. Elizabeth caught the longest, a very skinny 20" smallmouth on a Ned rig. I weighed it 3 times because I couldn't believe it but it only weighed 3.18 lbs. We couldn't really figure out any patterns. They ate pretty much any soft plastic we threw at them, they just didn't eat very much. 1 Quote
pbrussell Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 The resort owner I'm headed down to this week for my table rock trip just caught a 24" smallmouth not far from the resort a few days ago. Shallow. I AM STOKED. Biggest smallie he's ever caught.  He didn't have a chance to get pictures because his wife and him got in a fight, but I take him for his word (he's my extended cousin). Honest as they come. Said the fish would've gone in between 6-7 pounds. That is INSANE. Quote

Gonna flip finesse jigs, tubes, and a pit boss up in there. I might try waking a redfin over the tops and around the bushes early morning. Might be able to coax out some fat momma's.  Might get out onto some points with stairstep drops on one side and shallow water on the other. This should give me an idea of where the fish have decided to hang out given the rising water. Quote
Doc-Drew Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Had the day off from school today so I went out to Wabaunsee again to see if I could do better than Saturday. I did do better, but not by much. I ended with about 20 bass the biggest being a 18" 3.63lb largemouth caught on a jig. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 17, 2013 Global Moderator Posted August 17, 2013 Cbass and I fished Wabaunsee Thursday. Never really caught them fast but it was very steady all day and the quality was pretty good. He lost a nice smallmouth right out of the gate and then I went on a tear. I put 3 keeper largemouth in the boat off 2 docks. First was a 4lb 4oz, next cast a 3lb 12oz, then a couple casts later a 3lb 11oz, all on one of my home made finesse jigs. We missed a couple good bites and I sight fished one on a frog under a dock (really cool to watch). Then we had a little lull in the action with just a couple dinks here and there. Ryan got a nice smallmouth on a jig. then another lull of nothing but dinks. Right around noon we ran back over to the boathouse to eat lunch and while I was still eating Ryan made a couple casts off the dock. I was watching when he set the hook on a really solid looking fish that I assumed was a drum until I heard him calling for the net. Turned out to be his new PB smallmouth at 19" and 3lbs 14ozs. Back out in the boat we fished across the dam and didn't get much other than one skinny 17" largemouth. Ryan picked up another nice smallmouth on a rock bank I switched to a big worm looking for our last keeper bite and was about to give up on it until a big fish ate it off my rod tip when I was reeling in. 4 lbs 11ozs was our big fish of the day. Right before we left I finally got in on the smallmouth action with a bright red eyed 2 1/2 pounder. Our best 5 were 20 1/4 pounds and all but the biggest one were on jigs. Quote

pbrussell Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Shallow bite was pretty non-existent at the rock. They were letting down the water like crazy, so most of the flooded bushes were no longer flooded. I didn't fish much deeper than 20fow. Best areas were transition banks, and points with deep water on one side and shallow on the other.  I only fished 3 hours or so every day. Best day was 6 fish a piece. Best baits were kvd sexy dawg jr (early), pbj ned rigs, and 1/2 ounce bitsy bug jigs in green crawfish with a tiny paca chunk in summer craw color. The smallies were eating the jig really well.  Largemouth were the only fish that wanted to take a swing at the topwaters for some reason. Spots and smallies preferred the ned/jigs. A couple were taken on squarebills and spinnerbaits but they were few and far between.  Here was the best keeper fish I caught, and mightve been my pb spot.    Quote
