Super User skunked_again Posted July 29, 2013 Super User Posted July 29, 2013 Let me know how you do, I'll be down there Wednesday afternoon. not sure if i make the drive again so soon. it was hard. cold front plus spitting rain hurt the fishing. we ended up drop shotting the main channel on the very west end of the lake. no wind hurts that lake a lot too. MXHalofan Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Hoping this rain fires up the bite on Jacomo. Going there tomo afternoon. I tried to go last night and my trailer jack came apart. Getting one of the double wheeled jacks. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted July 30, 2013 Super User Posted July 30, 2013 Nice, how old is the boat? Quote
RedSoxDude Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I have an 07 nitro for 10. Message me if interested. Quote
retro basser Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Took the Scrogglet out to Butler SFL. He whooped me, 6-2. Lake was Chocolate Milk!! Tried Chartreuse Squarebill, Frog over the slop, Slitshot rig with a Junebug Lizard, Nada. Couple bites on a TRigged Baby Brushhog. Got both mine on a Siebert Outdoors OOmod Swimjig. Xans came on Neds, and Fat Albert. Scrogglet tearin it up! Bet he likes the boat better than a 'yak. I might have gotten a new toy. Dizzamm! That thing is awesome. Drive gently and and stay away from Critzer Blue: I'm shocked everytime i see you catch something on that 7'' Slammer. I bet you gotta be a little amazed everytime something chases that tree limb down. Is it fall yet? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 2, 2013 Global Moderator Posted August 2, 2013 Cbass and I hit up Melvern Wednesday night to see if you can catch smallmouth at night down there. We started around 5pm and caught fish right off the bat but our average size wasn't very great. Ryan had a good one on a shakyhead in the 17" range. We didn't get any big ones but once it got dark we got smallmouth, spots, sunfish, bluegill, crappie, white bass, drum, and flathead. Ryan had by far the biggest bite of the night, 13lb 9oz on shakyhead. kanasbassfisher08 and I diid some lake hopping on some smaller lakes Thursday. We started at Pleasanton East, it was tough. I think we caught 4 or 5 bass in 3 hours, nothing very big at all. There were some wipers blowing up pretty good for awhile and we caught several of those on topwater so that was fun but once the sun got up those stopped and the bass still weren't biting so we decided to head to Mound City. I caught one that looked good right off the bat on a Pit Boss but it was 19-20 inches long and so skinny it probably didn't weigh 3 pounds. We were catching a little one now and then and were starting to think about trying Critzer since Chris hadn't ever fished it before. I wanted to hit the trees at the far south end and then one stretch on the east side. First tree I pitched into on the south end my line jumped almost as soon as it hit the water, she caught it pretty good on the drop. She looks bigger than she was I guess. Weighed her twice and came out 3lbs 12ozs both times. We caught a few more and got to the last stretch I wanted to fish so I got brave and broke out my Slammer despite it being hot, sunny, and dead calm. One of my first casts I caught my first largemouth on my Slammer. Chris was wondering out loud what makes a fish eat that big, goofy looking bait. I was explaining to him during my retrieve that if I slow it down like this it wakes just like a big shad dying on the top that needs to be eaten BLAM! 20 inches and 4.5 pounds makes her my biggest swimbait fish to date. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 3, 2013 Global Moderator Posted August 3, 2013 Got a 6" Bull Shad in the mail yesterday. Didn't have much time today so I just went to Olathe with 2 rods. I've had them eat sunfish several times while reeling them in so I thought I might be able to get a bite on the big bait. I fished it for 2 hours and was about to pack it in and was daydreaming pretty bad when I thought I hit a rock. I looked up and saw a swirl where the fish that just hit my bait was at. I was a little irritated with myself and the fish wouldn't come back. Next cast down the bank I got about 2 cranks and got hit again. Not a monster but any fish on a big bait feels good Quote

Super User Hi Salenity Posted August 3, 2013 Super User Posted August 3, 2013 Me and Peter went to Melvern yesterday from around 5- dark From the time we got on the water we were pretty much catching them at will. Most of them were dinks except for the brown fish I broke off at the boat it looked to be in the 17-18" range. Oh, and Peter caught this thing. 1 Quote
pbrussell Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 That thing Peter caught... is big. I'm going to perry again tomorrow to break in my boat. Hopefully I catch something besides a drum. I have a good feeling that will be the first fish I catch in the new boat. Yuck. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 4, 2013 Global Moderator Posted August 4, 2013 I told you it would! Were there any fish in the lake? Quote
pbrussell Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 I told you it would! Were there any fish in the lake? We had trouble getting it to run right at first. The fuel filter wasn't tightened all the way? Not sure why it was like that, but it was. Took us a while to figure out the problem, and by the time we did we just ended up playing with the boat and forgot about throwing a line. Oh well. At least it runs well. 1 Quote

At least it runs well. That's the main thing. My Ranger never ran right, it was basically a really expensive pond hopper since the trolling motor was the only thing that worked My old Cajun I had only cost me $800 and ran better than that Ranger ever did for me. Mr_Scrogg Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 I got to have a day at my friends lease. Didn't keep count for numbera. There were alot. Largest I managed was 16.5. Rollin got 3 18" fish. I stuck with a 7" Slammer and a Swimjig all day. I think he was wielding a Horny Toad. That lake is getting choked with Milfoil, and Coontail. Add thick pads around the edges. Almost all you can toss is weedless topwater. Quote

I learned that one the fun way Quote

Glad they were biting again. Do you think they're starting to move out of summer mode? Quote

Do you think they're starting to move out of summer mode? We caught a bunch of smallies out there the 31st, none of them were deeper than 7 or 8 feet deep. It was sunny and hot when we got there and they were still right on the bank. Maybe they were just feeding good when we were there but they weren't on the deeper drops like they have been. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted August 5, 2013 Super User Posted August 5, 2013 All we caught were dinks but they were in probably 0-5' of water and easy to catch. Quote
