retro basser Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I got a real good feeling about this low pressure coming in... looks like it might have to be a half day Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Man, Ive felt lost past couple times out. Wind has been howling, which probably didnt help. Managed a skinny 18" Greenie with a severe underbite on a 7"Slammer. That was it. Tried and lost a Aruku Shad, Swim Jig, Buzzbait. Maybe it was the wind. It was howing. White caps on a 30-40 acre lake. If the wind wasnt whipping I could have drug a jig or something deeper. But moving baits was all I could toss effectively. Maybe Ill pick a calmer day next time Quote

We fished the Wednesday nighter last night and between me, basshunter0731, kanasbassfisher08, and another buddy we managed a whopping 8 fish, and one of those was a catfish. Today the wife and I went to Osage, which is supposed to be a good numbers lake with a few bigger fish. I worked hard fighting the wind while the wife laid out and put maybe 20 in the boat on a jig mainly. Did finally get a couple better bites on a Zman Palmetto bug (really impressed with that bait) pitching brushpiles. Quote
pbrussell Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I don't think the winds are supposed to let up any time soon. I may be try braving it on melvern sunday. I'm hoping the winds will drop in the forecast. If they increase, I won't be going. Quote
KYBassin' Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Is there a place to rent a boat on Lake Wabaunsee? I'm looking but not seeing anything. Thanks Quote

I'm hoping the winds will drop in the forecast. If they increase, I won't be going. They threw the word 30mph gusts in the forecast. No thanks. And so, I'll be looking around elsewhere to fish and try to stay out of the wind. Wunderground has mound city listed at 10-15 mph winds listed for sunday opposed to 30 mph gusts in melvern. I'm not sure how the wind could be so much different down there, but if the forecast stays like that I may end up trying critzer again. Hooray for trees. Quote
Chris S Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 took my 3 year old boy to the pond this morning first fish was his first bass ever ( 1 lb er) on his spider man pole then a few bluegill a pee off the dock ( 1st time) a poop in the woods ( 1st time) then another bass ( 2 lb er) pretty good day of 1st for the both of us and some good father/son bonding those are the best days fishing if you ask me. If Chris s. needs any advice he can ask my 3 year old now  . I might just start buying 13 dollar fishing poles from now on and worms. I guess Patricks my new fishing guide! Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 21, 2013 Global Moderator Posted June 21, 2013 Is there a place to rent a boat on Lake Wabaunsee? I'm looking but not seeing anything. Thanks No there isn't. There isn't many lakes with boat rentals in the area and a lot of them that do you not only have to buy a state permit but also a lake or county permit.   I went to Douglas State Lake for a few hours this morning. Caught a bunch of little bass and a couple crappie on buzzbaits, poppers, shakyheads, C-rigs, 5XD's, and 6XD's. Stumbled across another good one too. I made a cast by the fish attractor buoy with a 6XD and caught one that went 4.23 pounds and had a good sized bluegill in it's throat. Oddly enough my next cast to the same spot with the same bait resulted in this little crappe? Must have been waiting for that bass to leave so it could eat I guess. Quote

I really liked it because after it hits bottom the tail and apendages float up off the bottom and move with any waves or current. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 22, 2013 Global Moderator Posted June 22, 2013 KC Gents, Hey guys. KansasBASS9948 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Made it out to Hillsdale yesterday for about 6 hours....holy smokes we clobbered them! Â We took off from the ramp about 6 and caught a few on topwaters. Â Black buzzbait was the ticket up in the front of the boat and I burnt a white and gold War Eagle spinner bait early in the morning. Â As the day went on we caught them in the timber mainly on beavers and 7 inch worms. Â All in all we boated just over 30 fish with our best being a good 17 inch fish I caught on a green pumpkin Yum Dinger. Â Feels good to go out there and just whack them! 1 Quote
pbrussell Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I didn't make it to melvern. I did make it to critzer. Fishing was tough. That is all. Quote

Lies!! Awesome job man. What part of the lake are you catching them on? I lose confidence in that lake so fast when I'm out there I barely have time to figure anything out. Quote

It would be nice to fish some of that stuff. Best story I have about Gardner is the day I gave up on fishing it. It got Largemouth Bass Virus several years ago and still has not rebounded. It has quite a few smaller fish and they are getting a little bigger but minus a couple 4 pound fish I haven't caught anything worth going out there for. I talked to one home owner who said he caught a 7 out there a couple years ago, bottom fishing a goldfish for flatheads, said it tasted great Quote
pbrussell Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Lol nice report. It wasn't terrible I guess. We boated around 20 fish, but we just couldn't find a rhyme or reason out there. In my honest opinion, there's too much standing timber. It undoubtedly becomes an almost non factor (I say almost because you do catch fish in the timber). The lake, because of the limitless cover options should be more of a structure lake. However, without a contour map and perhaps side imaging, it would be impossible to find out where these key structures are. The timber is such a maze that you spend most of your time navigating through it, rather than paying attention to possible clues to structures hidden underneath you. Â Fish we did catch almost all came shallow, though I did catch a suspended bass off some timber around 20 fow, and also pulled up a bass in what I would guess to be 12-14 fow off a deep diving crank. Â We could not figure out a pattern. There were fish hanging around rocks. There were fish hanging around grass. There were fish hanging around timber. The only common denominator was more came out shallow than they did deep. Some came on squarebills. Some came on jigs. Some came on plastics. One came on a buzzbait. Â I believe I've washed my hands from critzer. I don't have any desire to fish there any more. Haha, is that a better report? 1 Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Blue and I was talking about this the other day. Small lakes here in KS is just a Junk Fishermans dream. There isnt enough of any one structure in a lake to really get on a solid pattern. Quote

fknlo Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Went out to Miami SFL today, and even though it was windy as hell I still got quite a few fish in my kayak. Â I was catching them on squarebills, swim jigs and spinners. Â I couldn't really try much else with the 20kt+ wind blowing me around the place. Â Can't wait to get back there on a calmer day. KansasBASS9948 Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 You must have caught every single bass in the lake. Nice job. I don't think many can say they have caught every single bass in a lake that size.  Nah not every fish we caught was worth talking about...of course we had our fair share of dinks.  Plus the day came with a snapped rod after I was a goober and tried sling shotting my rod to get it unsnagged.  We only had maybe 5 fish that were near the 15 inch mark.  The rest were all short fish....I used to HATE Hillsdale with a passion.  That was the first day that I've ever done well on that lake.  Most of the time I'm on Perry which even lately with all the rain we've had has been tough.  About two weeks ago we went out and the only fish I caught was a little 15 incher off the new brush they put in by Rock Creek marina.  Quote
