Doc-Drew Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 So who was that pulling a glass boat with a little Mazda FWD? That was me. Why? Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Curious how it handles it. Pbrussell, garnett south is electric only, but has monster fish. Quote

Mr_Scrogg Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Oh ok. Drew, im gonna be pulling with an Honda Odyssey, just inquiring on your experience. Quote
Chris S Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Â I'm talking about cedar creek I think it's called. It's about a 400 acre lake. its a shallow mud lake all fish near dam area IMO Quote
pbrussell Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 It certainly gets very shallow toward the upper end. I've fished there once but didn't have much luck. Thanks for the pointer Chris. Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Personally, Id hit the north lake. Good size and quantity of fish. Plus no restrictions. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 10, 2013 Global Moderator Posted May 10, 2013 I'm talking about cedar creek I think it's called. It's about a 400 acre lake.  I liked it when I fished it with Jon. I don't know what it's like this time of year but it seemed to not have a great population but the quality was certainly there. The west side was by far the best side for us, mainly the pockets and banks with deeper water. I thought it was a really shallow lake from what I'd heard but we found lots of water from 10-20+ feet deep. Jigs, cranks, and chatterbaits were the deal when we were there.  its a shallow mud lake all fish near dam area IMO I think you're thinking of Cedar Creek in Olathe, not Garnett. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 10, 2013 Global Moderator Posted May 10, 2013 Well Melvern was alright today but nothing like the get together. The size was nothing like it was a few weeks ago. My biggest smallmouth was probably 16-16.5 and so was Jon's and most of them were pretty small. Jerkbaits were pretty good until I lost my french pearl RC stick and busted the bill off my custom painted Megabass. Caught quite a few on topwater walkers but not many bigger ones. Had several on spinnerbaits including my biggest of the day that was a largemouth in the 17-18 inch range, Jon had a largemouth similar size on a jerkbait. Caught a couple on cranks, couple on shakyheads and Neds. Could have caught white bass all day on the dam on topwater but eventually got tired of playing with them and left. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 11, 2013 Global Moderator Posted May 11, 2013 I believe the next get together will have to be at Lake Wabaunsee. Flash (Sam) caught this beast out there a couple days ago. He didn't weigh her but guessed her in the 9-10 pound range and certainly appears like she could go that big and they are in there for sure along with record class smallies too. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted May 11, 2013 Super User Posted May 11, 2013 Lets get something started on the next get together. I'm ready to do it again! Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted May 11, 2013 Author Super User Posted May 11, 2013 It is quite the drive up there, but I saw someone recently caught an almost 10 up at Mozingo. I've been up there a couple times and really liked it. Both times the wind blew. I have a feeling it is one of those lakes kind of like Melvern where the wind always seems to blow. Mozingo is a pretty fun lake and it does have some good fish but it gets pounded all year long during the summer months and gets lots of pleasure boaters too. We had an 8.8 during a night tournament I fished in up there several years ago. Wabaunsee is a pretty good drive and bit more of a hassle to get on but it gets nowhere near the pressure, it's easier to fish, is a little more protected from the wind, and it has big largemouth and smallmouth. Plus a majority of the guys are in Kansas and already have Kansas permits already and wouldn't have to buy them for Missouri also. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted May 11, 2013 Author Super User Posted May 11, 2013 Oh I was not suggesting an outing up there, just pointing out another semi-local lake that has recently produced a monster. sizzlefry Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 lets do the next turny im thinking july and then a fall turny Wabaunsee looks good but I think its only a 200 acre lake but if its big enough not to be fishing on top of each other then lets do it Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 11, 2013 Global Moderator Posted May 11, 2013 Oh I was not suggesting an outing up there, just pointing out another semi-local lake that has recently produced a monster.  http://www.theleavenworthbassclub.org/tournament-results/mozingo-may-4th-2013-with-pics/  That's the club I used to fish in. Mark's a good guy and I believe he held the club record for big fish before that one. lets do the next turny im thinking july and then a fall turny Wabaunsee looks good but I think its only a 200 acre lake but if its big enough not to be fishing on top of each other then lets do it I won't be able to make a summer one unless it's on a Thursday, just won't have the days off availiable. I'll be good to go about late September though. Wabunsee is loaded with docks that take a long time to fish if you really pick them apart and pretty much the entire lake is capable of producing fish. There's going to be some guys not willing to pay the permit and drive that far to fish too so I'm sure we'll lose a couple guys to those factors. I think it would be plenty big enough for the tournament but small enough the winds not as much of a factor and that we can stay close enough for some BSing and trash talking Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 11, 2013 Global Moderator Posted May 11, 2013 BPS has YUM F2 baits on sale for 2.47 right now. Lots of different styles of baits and colors when I was there. Normal size bags and good colors and styles. The one in Olathe has at least 21 fewer bags then when I was there though Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I picked up SPRO McSticks @ hallf price in the bargin cave of Cabelas. They had tons of Rapala and SPRO Quote
pbrussell Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Didn't end up making it out today because of the wind. I'm gonna try and hit perry early tomorrow morning since it's close enough to my gma's house. Oh perry, please treat me well (her and I have an unpleasant history). Quote
cbass12 Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 My dad and I went to melvern yesterday. Got there about 7 and fished until about 2. Started slow but we eventually figured them out. Started throwing jerkbaits and crankbaits but that wasn't as effective as it was two weeks ago. We fished the cove with the jetty protecting the swimming beach without any luck. We went to a cove on the north side that I fished with Blue a few weeks ago. We caught a few fish on shakyheads, but not that many to keep us around that spot. My dad did catch a really nice 17" smallie though. Â Â Â Â Â We worked our way around to the next cove and I caught my first ned rig fish, a really nice 16 1/2" smallie. Went to the dam after that. I caught a dink on a 78 pointer on my first cast, then a nice chunky 16" smallie on the next cast. We worked our way down the dam and caught a few little smallmouth and several white bass. Went to the marina cove next and caught one of all three species all on shakyheads. My dad caught a couple of really healthy largemouth on consecutive casts. We ended up going back to the cove on the north side thinking it would be better later in the day. First fish was a really nice largemouth that broke me off on the trolling motor. We caught several in the cove including the biggest of the day, an 18" smallie. It was pretty chilly and a little windy but a great day as it was the first time my dad and I have gone fishing together in a couple years. I loved watching him catch his nice smallie, and having him net mine. Â Quote
pbrussell Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 So, there are 4+ pound smallmouth in perry. Say hello to my new pb. 1 Quote
pbrussell Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Caught her on a square bill. Four and a quarter pounds. She was very fat. I was not expecting a brown fish this size in perry. Watch out melvern? Quote
