Super User Hi Salenity Posted May 6, 2013 Super User Posted May 6, 2013 You guys must have been invisible today? I don't think I saw but 2 other boats today. We made it to Melvern about 8am and it was windy and rainy. I caught several fish once we found them. I got hit like a freight train twice and immediately the reel started to peel drag off. I learned this new trick that if you push down on the spool with your thumb you can stop the drag from peeling off, however on both fish this was a nee jerk reaction many due to wearing gloves maybe due to having my head in my... Anyhow I lost a white megabass 110 and a white lucky strike. :-/ both times after I broke off the fish jumped in the air trying to throw the bait. One may have gone 4# but I don't think the other one went 3# my buddy got the Fish of the day a 18.75" 3.11# smallie. This pic doesn't do it any justice. Quote

Get any off of the spot you guys fished in the tournament or all on the spot in the picture? Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted May 6, 2013 Super User Posted May 6, 2013 The Pic was the end of the dam and it was the only fish we got near the dam I was hoping to pull a Chris and fill the well with whites. ;-) the rest of our fish were caught between the tournament spot and the stretch from the marina to the campground. Btw Brian's arm was hurt and he couldn't throw a jerkbait allot so he was using a spinner to catch the fish in the pic. Quote
cbass12 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 PB that spot in the second picture looks like a pretty nice one. DId you catch the spots in the marina cove? My dad and I are headed down there Friday and we might have to try to catch a few. Quote

My dad and I are headed down there Friday and we might have to try to catch a few. I did catch one by the marina. However, I caught 3 or 4 in the little cove just west of the ramp we launched out of last week. Fish were piled up on top of each other at the end of the pier that protects the swimming area. Every fish I caught there was a spot, and sadly, I lost one that felt like a very nice one. Thankfully I didn't see her. Quote
cbass12 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I've always thought about fishing that cove but have just never got around to doing it, sounds like a place I need to try on Friday. Quote

Super User Hi Salenity Posted May 6, 2013 Super User Posted May 6, 2013 inline or regular spinnerbait?Regular one, white/chartreuse with one gold blade and one silver.I threw a white mepps some but didn't have any luck Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 7, 2013 Global Moderator Posted May 7, 2013 Well doesn't seem to be any walleyes on the dam at Hillsdale right now but the whites are loaded on it in 7-12 feet of water. I caught somewhere between a boat load and a ton of white bass. They seemed to be biting best on baits that were in the water but might have been able to get one to jump out of the water and grab one too. I caught a ton on a #5 Glass Rap, 3" twitchtail minnow or beat shad on a 1/8oz jighead. Did catch one nice keeper crappie and a really little bass that was just a little bigger than my jerkbait. Quote

MattX Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Went to Olathe Lake today for an hour and a half or so. Only managed to catch 1LM about 13" - 15" but it is my first at Olathe for me so no more being skunked there  . Caught it by the mouth of the inlet. Btw, I've been wanting to catch some wipers and whitebass. What are some good shore access around here, if ya don't mind sharing. Thanks Quote

Thanks You could catch a ton of them off the dam at Hillsdale right now. Wipers are tough from the bank. Only place I've ever caught very many from the bank is the outlet at La Cygne and that is pretty hit and miss also. Quote

Thanksyou might have a chance at the end of the outlet and you need to fish at the level there at which is hard without sonar unless there busting shad at the other end by the bridge then it might be hard if not try the dam couple lakes have whites and crappie stacked on the dams Quote
MattX Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Thanks for the infos. Probably won't be able to give it a shot until this weekend sometimes due to school. Will report if I do have the chance to go out. Quote
TBONE STEAK Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Hows it going,  Im new to the forum, Got a question though, I live around Longview lake in Grandview. Im having a heck of a time catching anything at all out there. Does anybody have any suggestions on what I could try to catch at least one out there? Or any advice on the lake itself? kylek Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I'm trying to convince my father in law to go to Melvern this weekend. He has never caught a smallmouth and I want to get him on the board. Where are some good places to hit besides the dam? I have only fished there once, last falls get together, and mainly stayed around the dam  any tips you can give would be greatly appreciated.  thanks Kyle Quote
retro basser Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Went out to Shawnee yesterday afternoon. Â Slow day for everyone out there sounded like. Â Water was up to 59 though. Â I found this girl off a point over deep water. Â Yep, that's a 5'' jerkbait. Â I'm ready for something else to work but it's hard to argue with the results. Â She went 20'' and 5.3. Â Another guy said he's caught a 22'' out there.. Â Quote

I'll be out there with basshunter and cbass will be out there with his dad tomorrow so I'll have a report up here when I get back. Quote
tritonguy Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Not sure if any of you guys fish Smithville but I'm going up there Saturday morning for a few hours. If anyone wants to go send me a message. Quote
MattX Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Went around the usual lakes today and caught quite a few fish. Again, no size ... Seems like they're starting to hit top water.. I strolled my weedless plastic across weedpatches and got a few hits but only connected on 1 with it.. Quote
pbrussell Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I was planning on going to melvern tomorrow. However, my forecast has 15-20 mph winds, with 30mph gusts in the forecast down there. NO THANKS. Looks like I'll try and hit a smaller, more wind protected lake tomorrow. Not altogether sure where that'll be yet though. Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 So who was that pulling a glass boat with a little Mazda FWD? Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted May 10, 2013 Super User Posted May 10, 2013 Fwiw, I pull my boat with my Astro. Quote
pbrussell Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Hmm, that lake in garnett doesn't have high winds in the forecast either. Decisions, Decisions. Quote
