Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted April 22, 2013 Author Super User Posted April 22, 2013 I am not sure on the name. Whomever told me about it called it Baldwin City Lake so that is what I know it by, but your description sounds about right. It also seems to kind of be someone's yard. Quote
MattX Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Maybe I'll give it a shot. I wanted to try Hillsdale anywho so its kind of over there I suppose. Thanks for the info. Quote

I fished the Dale Monday for Walleye but ended up with 6 bass biggest being 3 pounds and 2 short Walleye, lipless crankbait. Quote
ks cranker Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Anyone been on Perry lately? Fished it on 4/20 and couldn't get a bite anywhere... Not sure if the weather put them in a funk or what... Quote

kanasbassfisher08 Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 sorry correction its good this time of year but not with weather like this lol Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 24, 2013 Global Moderator Posted April 24, 2013 Nope but Bassmasters put it in the top 100 again, maybe thats it Now way it should have been there either. It's a good lake, but not in the top 100 in the country. It would actually have been rated the best bass lake in the state according to how they did it. I'd take Milford over Perry any day for the best bigger bass lake in the state. I've never fished Sebilius but Wilson shouldn't have been on that list either. Quote

Off the dam? Hoping to give it a shot Friday if I have time. Have to help basshunter get his trolling motor mounted on his boat and bearings repacked so he'll be ready for the tourny but should have plenty of time to get down there still for awhile at least. pbrussell Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 Trying to decide between goin back to melvern this weekend to learn a jerkbait, or going to nebo to hunt for some donkeys. Quote
cbass12 Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 Considering all the big fish that were caught on Saturday, Melvern would be my choice if I could go. Quote
pbrussell Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 Considering all the big fish that were caught on Saturday, Melvern would be my choice if I could go. Yeah, I want to head out there, but only with someone who can teach the ways of the jerk. Quote
cbass12 Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 No better way to learn than to just do it. I taught myself how to do it last year at melvern, and at that time I really had no experience fishing jerkbaits. Quote
pbrussell Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 Well that settles it I suppose. I guess I'll go back out (weather permitting) with a box of jerkbaits, a couple of rods, and nothing else. That'll make me learn. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted April 29, 2013 Super User Posted April 29, 2013 As of now I don't have anything going tomorrow. Does anyone want to go to Melvern for a few hours in the morning? I'd need to leave by noon. ***Never mind, I have to take the kids to school*** Quote

That'll make me learn. well if really helps in the learning process if u go to a lake and catch fish but if i was trying to learn to jerk it id just go to bourbon just because u get a feel for the bait and u will catch fish like blue and i said at the get together and u arent stuck with jerks there either u can throw almost anything but melverns fun just tough if ur not jerkin it and ill go with u anytime u need a fishing partner. or take some to some local ponds to get a feel before u go to melvern Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 30, 2013 Global Moderator Posted April 30, 2013 Went and did some birthday bassin tonight at Douglas State Lake. Figured if I had to go somewhere close I was pretty much stuck catching dinks so I might as well catch a bunch of dinks. We caught probably 40-50 in the hour and a half we were there with about 50/50 bass to crappie ratio on little cranks, jerkbaits, and jigs. As it was getting dark I started fishing a jig on a drop off along the dam because I was marking tons of fish and Nicole was still catching crappie about every cast off the dam. I thought maybe I'd get a giant 2 pounder I caught a couple a little bit bigger but still nothing that I could have even stretched 14". Decided I might as well try to catch a couple dinks on a deep crank on that ledge. One of my first casts got stopped under the boat by what I assumed was a decent catfish. I was pretty shocked when this gal flashed by the boat. 21.5" and 5.48 pounds on the smaller size Luck E Strike Smoothie crankbait. Didn't know they made them that big out there 1 Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted April 30, 2013 Author Super User Posted April 30, 2013 I am going to go ahead and call that the Unofficial Lake Record?!?!?! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 30, 2013 Global Moderator Posted April 30, 2013 I am going to go ahead and call that the Unofficial Lake Record?!?!?! By far the largest I've ever heard of from out there. I talked to a guy that said he caught 2 5's out of there the same day but didn't have any pictures or proof of it. I was marking quite a few larger fish in 10-17 feet of water off the dam but I assumed the were cats or carp. Me and a couple buddies may be back out there Wednesday to see if maybe there are more that size hanging around in deeper water off the dam, maybe fish a 6XD or flutter spoon. The crappie are spawning on the dam and she looked like she'd eaten a couple of them so maybe a big swimbait too. Quote
