Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 14, 2013 Global Moderator Posted April 14, 2013 Melvern sucked today. I am sick of wind already for 2013. Ended up with 1 in the boat and maybe 4 bites.  A side stroy .... I was fishing down a rocky line and this boat came up from behind me a lot faster than I was going. It was clear to me that he was going to go around me. Not something I or just about anyone else would do, but whatever. I am not fishing for money and I don't own the lake. As he was going around me I acknowledged him and thought to myself d**n he is cutting it close ...... and then proceeds to run into my boat. W T F !!!  That's crazy. Did he just not see you or just plain stupid? Quote
sizzlefry Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 I would ask if he had insurance and told him you were going to call the warden maybe he would get scared and leave the lake Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted April 14, 2013 Author Super User Posted April 14, 2013 He clearly saw me. Just an idiot. He was an older guy. So maybe it is getting near that time to give up his boat. Can only imagine him on the road ....  There was no damage. He just grazed me mainly because I was able to stick my foot on his boat and push it away. Doc-Drew Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 I agree with you about the wind KU_Bassmaster. Yesterday was supposed to be fairly decent but turned out to be very windy at Melvern. Only picked up four fish, 3 smallmouths and a tiny spot all on jerkbaits. Biggest was this 3.7lb smallmouth. Quote
inunishi Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 I did get the canoe at LaCygne today. Wind, fat man and near empty canoe was a lot of fun. Spent at least 10 minutes going in circles trying to get the used trolling motor to work. Quote
fknlo Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 I am sick of wind already for 2013. Â Â Same. Â It's really frustrating on a kayak. Â I was going to try and make it out today but didn't even bother. Â I went out on Smithville yesterday and managed to catch one whole crappie over about 6 hours of fishing. Â Better than nothing I guess. Â Looks like we've got another week of so-so weather ahead too. Â Â Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 15, 2013 Global Moderator Posted April 15, 2013 Any of you guys ever done any mods to an aluminum boat? Specifically the livewell. Mine is just too small for me to be able to fish a tournament and the bug has bitten me big time recently. They make drop in livewells and such but they take up a ton of room and really don't hold hardly any more water than my livewell does already. Mine takes up a ton of space but for some reason they didn't use the entire space for livewell, there's just a bunch of dead space. I've thought about either cutting out the walls they have or taking it out completely and just rigging up a livewell with a big cooler similar to something like this. http://www.tinboats.net/projects/13-building-a-livewell Quote
Oldplug Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 I wonder how large your boat is and where you are going to fish in tournaments. Lake like where I live here on LOZ and grand lake are really no place for a very small low freeboard boat. Quote

Lake like where I live here on LOZ and grand lake are really no place for a very small low freeboard boat. It's a 16' Lowe Roughneck. I've had it on Grand, LOZ, Table Rock, Bull Shoals, and Beaver without an issue. The tournaments I was wanting to fish are team tournaments that mainly fish smaller lakes in Kansas though. They do fish Truman once but I hate fishing Truman anyways so if I missed that one it wouldn't hurt my feelings any. It's very similar to this boat but the livewell takes up the entire space in front of the console but is only a 13 gallon livewell. http://www.loweboats.com/2013/hunting-boats/frontier-1650sc/ Quote
micahthorlawson Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Went to Miami County and fought the wind for awhile on Sunday morning. Caught plenty of little fish, but nothing worth mentioning. The water was super clear there. Most of the lakes I have seen have been pretty stained or flat out muddy because of all the rain. It was surprising.  Had some buddies do pretty well at Olathe Lake this weekend. Quote
conorsixtakc Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Fished LOZ this past Saturday at the 7mm. After a few lackluster largemouth I switched over to crappie... I couldn't help it. I was hungry, I had a feeling they'd be hitting, and they sure were! I know this is a bass fishing forum but who in their right mind doesn't enjoy slaying fat slabs by the masses? I stopped short of a limit to give myself enough time to clean them before dinner with the family, if I wasn't pressed for time I'd like think I could've found 3 more keepers. 1 Quote
tritonguy Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Blue, time to upgrade to a bigger boat. I just happen to know where a 2011 Triton 19XS is for sale, with BIG livewells. Quote

I wish I had the money or garage space for a boat that size. I have to put mine in diagonal just to get it to fit.  New PB yesterday. First day tossing a Bama Rig. 6lb7oz Scrogg's PB Nice fish man! I wish we could use that rig in Kansas, it's a blast to fish when they're eating it. Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Private lake near Wichita. Since it was private, I usesd all 5 hooks. Most my fish was on middle jig. Also had 2, doubles. It was one of those days that makes you think you are ready for the big tourneys. HAHAHAHA Doubt Ill get the chance to fish it again. One of those friend of a friend deals Quote

I thought for sure I'd get one at Beaver with all the schooling fish we found but never happened. Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Thats how it was Sunday. We was in them for spells. Then died off. Thats the 3rd Double Ive had. First was on a Lunker Punker. It was an expensive day for a friend though. Lost 2 Hudds, 2 BAma Rigs and a Spro jerkbait!!!! I lost 2 Ned Rigs. Quote

Mr_Scrogg Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Ouch!!! Thats one reason on my big baits, 65lb braid, no exceptions. Lol It was a tough lake to get a bead on. Gin clear water. 10-14 ft visibility. Ive never fished a lake like that before. 3ft from shore, steep drops. But there are some good cover. Cattails, fallen trees, rock, brushpiles. Hope I get a chance to get back there Quote

Hope I get a chance to get back there Line breaking wasn't really an issue, it was the dang metal cables I was trying to cast under that kept breaking the joints on my king shads. The one I did lose it wouldn't have mattered what line I had. I don't like braid for my big baits because if you backlash on a hard cast there's a good chance your line will break and your bait will sail away.  Clear water is tough, especially on small bodies of water where they tend to be spooky anyways. It's amazing they'll eat that big goofy looking rig in clear water but it seems to work well in clear water for some reason. Quote

They're a good time and this is the best time of year to get in on them when the fish are still up pretty shallow and eating lots of different baits. I think I might have found the solution for my boat. I'm not sure I can even do them yet. I may have to wait for a couple more years before I start getting more time off each year so I can take the weekend days off once in awhile. Quote
