Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 6, 2013 Global Moderator Posted April 6, 2013 That would be your chatterbait with some Megastrike scent!   Pulled her from some reeds on the opposite shore from the fishing piers. Good deal. Glad it produced a good one for you. That black and blue chatterbait has been money for big fish for me since I started making them. Quote
Joey Morrisey Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 hey guys i been reading you post for the last month and i finely got around to making an account. what made me do this is that i saw you guys wanting to know about pleasanton lakes and was going to tell you that last week i went and with all the rain the east lake is really muddy and when the water was the muddiest water temperature  hit 60 when the sun was out but it was mostly 52 to 56. we only caught 3 fish for the day and the one was a 9.8 wiper on a crank bait. i fish these lakes about every week besides when i have a golf tournament. i didnt get to go this weekend.but my brother going tomorrow Quote

This is a just made one from this summer. The blade still needs to be bent up slightly before it's ready to be fished with. You can kind of tell the angle it's bent at in this picture, which is actually a good fish from Pleasanton East Lake 1 Quote

They seem to do that a lot. This one is one of my biggest from last year that ate a zebra shad colored homemade chatterbait. You can see that the blade is about the only thing left sticking out of her mouth. Caught her at Bourban State Lake. Quote

I use either a football head or finesse jig head for my chatterbaits. Seems like the 3/8 or 5/16 ounce sizes work the best. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 7, 2013 Global Moderator Posted April 7, 2013 The wife and I went to Douglas State Lake today for about two and a half hours to enjoy some of the nice weather. Didn't really matter what we fished, put about 40 bass, 2 crappie, and a bluegill in the boat. Caught fish on finesse jigs, shakyheads, warts, scatter raps, jerks, keitechs, grubs, and a spinnerbait. Area wasn't real important either. They were typical DCSL fish, biggest was maybe 12 inches but probably more like 10.5". Still a good time to get out and just tear them up like that. Always nice when the wife is just cranking them in too. Quote
basshunter0731 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Beaver, Bull Shoals, T-Rock, Northfork, Grand, all with in 3-4 hours..... thats where i hope to spend my retriement years.  Seriously thinking about retiring down there if retiring is such a thing by the time I'm ready to retire. I love the variety of the fish species and lakes. Plus it's a beautiful area around those lakes. Quote
conorsixtakc Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 After a ten minute fight on 12# mono and getting run around a submerged tree, I landed this tank of a wiper at SMP on Saturday. Successfully released her after the photo. Go figure I'd forget my scale down at LOZ and come back to KC and catch a personal best! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 8, 2013 Global Moderator Posted April 8, 2013 Nice wiper! What'd you catch her on? Quote

Mr_Scrogg Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 I have NEVER caught a hybrid. :-( Heard they run like the dickens though 1 Quote

I think we got out there around 2pm and fished until 4:30. My wife was just casting and slow reeling a 3" smoke/black/red flake grub on a pink 1/8oz jighead and couldn't hardly make a cast without getting a bite. Quote

Mr_Scrogg Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I know what you mean, retro. My boy loves impeding "action" on whatever he throws. In the form if violently shaking the rod. Lol Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 9, 2013 Global Moderator Posted April 9, 2013 I have NEVER caught a hybrid. :-( Heard they run like the dickens though Marion is supposed to have some monster wipers in it. Wolf Creek has a decent population of them. If you really wanted to catch one I'd go to Milford. Some days out there it's hard to catch anything else. Jefferey Energy Center lakes have a great population of them and they're small enough to fish with a kayak pretty easily. Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Im wanting to fish JEC lakes for smallies this year. I might can get some then. Wolf Creek is off limits for me due to power boats only. Marion is fairly close to me. I might have to give it a try. Wellington City Lake suppose to have a good population too. Quote

My dad and I fished JEC lakes a lot when I was a kid, caught lots of fish out there, but we mainly walleye fished out there because that's what my dad likes to fish for. There's lots of smallies but they average pretty small in our experiences with them. Last time we were on them we got on a really good topwater bite for the wipers, put about 2 dozen of them in the boat on Super Spook Jr's, that was a good time. Marion has an excellent rating for wipers and Cheney has a good rating so you might check both of those out. Right now is a great time to catch wipers while the shad are schooled up. Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Cheney, from what Ive heard, needs to be mowed. LOL Its way way down. Should concentrate everything more. Basically look for shad busting, then go and toss some imitation shad lures Im assuming. Quote

I like covering shallow flats with a rattle trap also. They don't get on them all the time but when they're up on the flats they're only there for one reason. Quote
