Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 30, 2012 Global Moderator Posted December 30, 2012 Anyone ever fished the small pond at La Cygne above the outlet? I know there are fish in it because I've throw netted it when I walked in to fish the outlet before but haven't ever actually fished it. I've heard from duck hunters it's extremely shallow but that water should be warm enough that some big fish could still live in that shallow water. I may have to give it a try unless someone has some info to make me decide otherwise. I'll be down there Wednesday since it's supposed to make it all the way up to almost 40 Quote
kanasbassfisher08 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 just put the 12 footer in ur roughkneck and then drag it up and find out sissy! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 3, 2013 Global Moderator Posted January 3, 2013 Jon and I got the La Cygne today and fished from dark to dark I guess that makes it pretty obvious the fishing was pretty good the entire day. It was a balmy 11 degrees when we got on the water but I still caught a fish literally on my first cast of the day on a swimbait. Jon caught his first bass of the year pretty quickly on a football jig. It looked like he hooked a monster at first because it was in the current on a long cast but was still a pretty stout fish. I lost a big fish on a shakyhead that was ripping drag and then caught a solid fish my next cast. We caught several more bass at the outlet then decided to try for some whites and wipers on the flat north of the outlet. Not much going on, we doubled up on wipers that were about a pound apiece when a bunch of gulls started diving at the mouth of the river so we ran over to them. Had a little flurry of smaller wipers and then we doubled on nice wipers, Jon's was his PB wiper. I had a baitfeeder with a freelined live shad in the rod holder that started slowly feeding out line and after a fight that wore out my forearm I netted this channel cat. The picture does it no justice but it was probably 10-12 pounds. We worked up the lake and were about to dock the boat so we could get drinks that weren't frozen at the boathouse when I got another solid one right by the ramp on a jerkbait. It was a really good day for a little bit of everything. We probably put 30-35 bass in the boat, a dozen to 15 wipers, several big whites, 2 catfish, 2 buffalo, and a carp. A shakyhead with a magnum finesse worm, a lucky craft or Excaliber jerkbait, swimbait, or rattletraps were the deal all day. 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 3, 2013 Global Moderator Posted January 3, 2013 sounds like a good day for there buddy and it wasnt a blizzard like most of our best days but was cold. did u throw the hudd deluxe pansy I threw a couple 5 inchers, caught a fish on one but lost the tail on that fish then had a good hit on the other one that didn't hook up. Caught several on a king shad though. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 7, 2013 Global Moderator Posted January 7, 2013 Going back to La Cygne this Thursday and will have an empty seat if anyone is interested. 40 for a low, 52 for a high, cloudy with a chance of rain and 12mph winds from the SW is what weather.com has for the forecast right now. I'm sure it will change between now and then but there's a good warm front coming through starting today going through Friday so they may be really fired up by Thursday. Pm me or send me a text if you've got my number. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 11, 2013 Global Moderator Posted January 11, 2013 Well today was certainly not a numbers day but after catching lots of fish last week Chris and I decided to hit to La Cygne again today. We had rain off an on for the first half of the day and then pretty steady rain the second half of the day, at least the temps were in the 40's most of the day and wind wasn't terrible. The plant was not generating when we got there. No generation equals no action on power plant lakes. It took us almost 3 hours to get a bite and the first half dozen were serious dinks, only one would have even topped a pound. We came around the point and noticed the visibility had dropped to a couple hundred yards so we knew they'd started generating and the warm water running into the lake was creating steam so we figured we'd get to the outlet again because those fish react first. Not much going on other than one dink and one missed bite. I was fishing a Series 5 on a sand/gravel ledge where the current runs along when my bait got crushed. I wasn't sure it was a bass at first until she came up and wallowed. She was hooked good until she wallowed next to the boat again and the front hook popped out. She pulled like crazy and I thought for sure she'd come off but Chris finally got the net under her. I was shaking so bad I couldn't hardly get her on the scale. 24" long and 15" around and 7.51 pounds. We probably didn't catch another half dozen the rest of the day and it was raining pretty hard and starting to get dark so we headed to the ramp but decided to fish around the ramp for a minute before we left. I was fishing a Bandit 100 in mistake color off a rock pier when it got stopped. We both thought it was around 3 pounds when it first came up and wallowed around. Once it got to the boat and dove down it was obvious we'd underestimated her. She was barely hooked on the back hook but she stayed stuck and we got her in the net. Not quite as big as the first but at 21.5" and 13.25" and 5.88 pounds she was certainly a great way to end the day! 2 Quote
Goose21 Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Ill take two flat out pigs with a bunch of dinks any day..Very nice! You have your work cut out for yoy to top that 7+ pounder in 2013. .Curious what is a series 5? Quote

You have your work cut out for yoy to top that 7+ pounder in 2013. .Curious what is a series 5? A Strike King Series 5 crankbait, about a 10-14 foot runner. I was fishing the green gizzard shad color in the rattling version. That fish is actually the second biggest bass I've caught anywhere other than Mexico. Quote
bassinKS Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 to answer your question about the little pond in the outlet we call it the "hot pond" yes it is shallow when you get up there and there are usually quite a few hunters this time of year including me lol i can say that i have thought about bringing a rod or two with me to fish and one of these times i will do it and let u know how it goes Quote
Doc-Drew Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Nice work Blue! Â Did Chris catch anything worth mentioning or was he the reliable net man? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 11, 2013 Global Moderator Posted January 11, 2013 Nice work Blue! Â Did Chris catch anything worth mentioning or was he the reliable net man? He didn't get anything he wanted a picture of and only had a half dozen or so but I probably only had a dozen to 15 all day myself. Just the way La Cygne is a lot of the time. The fishing was tough but if you get the right bite it changes the whole day. Most of our fish were on shakyheads but I had 4 on crankbaits too. It was very similar to a trip we had down there a couple winters ago when we caught very few fish but I had a 7 and a 5 pound fish. Only difference was I caught my two big fish on different baits and off different spots this time. Quote
kanasbassfisher08 Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Hey guys thought i would post this for you guys cus we all fish the ned rig and thought it might be a good alternative. gary yamamoto custom baits makes a 2inch sticko that might work for what we are doing with the full size stickos. https://store.baits.com/home.php?cat=13 i saw this in the general forum and thougt hmmm worth a look but we will see Quote

Man I'm jealous. I was wondering if they would have anything cool at a decent price. Â What did you get and what were the prices like? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 15, 2013 Global Moderator Posted January 15, 2013 I didn't go because they haven't had crap for fishing stuff the last several years except for baits that looked like they should be on infomercials. Sounds like I should have gone I guess. Oh well, I just spent $150 between TW and fishingskirts.com  It's jig building time Quote
Busy Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 I hadn't been in years but it seems like the show is quite a bit smaller than it was 10 years ago.  Most of the fishing stuff was for crappie.  I got a Giant Dog-X and a Deep-X 100 for $20 each. Not a steal but I thought it was ok. Razr rods had a booth and they were selling for $169 (down from $199). There was a lot of PowerPro and Viscious line marked 1/2 off. Nets 1/2 off. The booth that had the megabass lures was also selling Lews SS TPros. The guy told me they accidentally had them marked at $85.99 the first day of the show. I think they were around $160 when I was there though. Quote
micahthorlawson Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 I went on the first day, they must have corrected the Lews by then cuz they were asking $160. I got som A-rigs from the booth that had the megabass lures. They were asking 26 for the vision 110 and I didn't think that was an awesome deal or anything.  Quote
retro basser Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 I know the season doesnt end for some of you guys out there but I don't mind taking a little break from fishing to recharge my batteries.... well the itch is coming back and i'm starting to reflect back on last season. It occured to me that I caught the vast majority of fish on my two most sensitive rods and a handful of baits.  I thought it might interesting for everyone to kick around a favorite gear of 2012 poll to get us through the winter. I'll offer up these basic catgories and post the poll again for easy replying.    Answer as many or as few as you want, but...  before you ask, no, you cant answer 'ned rig' for all of the responses    Favorite Rod/Reel: --- 7' Cabelas Prodigy with a Daiwa Baitcaster  All-around line: --- Not gonna lie, that Pline CXX is pretty d**n good for how cheap it is.  Jig / Shakeyhead / Football: --- I had alot of fun with a swim-jig this year just 1/8 oz  Crankbait: --- Bomber model A squarebill in a tennessee shad with a rattle caught many a bass this season  Finesse Bait: -- 3.5 Yamamoto tube in smoke color hands down  Topwater: --- Rebel popR in gizzard shad  Plastic: --- This is a broad topic but a good suprise for me this year was the NetBait Paca... they're cheap and they work...
