My vacation is quickly turning into a skunk-cation I got real close to getting sprayed this morning. I've got a lake suggestion if you need one to keep the skunk off. Quote
Dirtyeggroll Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 Apparently skunks are afraid of clowns... clown pattern chrome jerkbaits that is ?? 6 Quote
Fir3hawk Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Been so darn busy lately. Went down to my boat storage to finish rigging up my UHD 93 (needed a wire to fish the transducer wire last time). Boat should be good to go. Also have a little surprise coming for myself soon. Thought about taking my pole with me and fishing the shore at Hillsdale for a hour or two. Didn't end up doing it but hoping to get the boat out to knock the dust off on Saturday. Looking at the weather for next week, think I may take 4/02 off and get some fishing in. I'm having withdrawals but been too busy. What are the water temps at various lakes that you guys are hitting. I assume we are starting to see pre-spawn patterns or if not, very close to it. I typically fish for crappie in April then switch to Bass after the crappie spawn. Quote

PotatoLake Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 I’m hitting Pomme de Terre this week. I’m not expecting much as the water is 10ft high, muddy, and only 50 degrees. I’ll post a report. Gonna fish for 4 days. Hopefully I’ll cobble together a pattern. Quote

Broke off a lot more than I remembered. It was stored on ceiling above garage door. I guess lure caught the door and game over. Snipped it before the eyelet with some dike pliers and heated it up and glued a tip on from a $4.99 BPS rod tip repair kit. Went from 7’ to 6’6” 1 Quote
HaydenS Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Went out to Douglas today with a buddy. We caught about 13 fish, he caught ten and I caught 3. Water temps reached 55 in the back of a cove. One on a spinnerbait and all the rest on jerkbaits. Biggest was 2.5-3 on the spinnerbait. Gonna blame the lack of fish on my part on being in the back of the boat lol. I saw a 6th sense provoke jerkbait in the snagged water, and got it out. Must've recently been snagged, no rust or anything. New jerkbait to add to the collection! Quote
Fir3hawk Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Tossed a jerkbait in a couple spots from the shore at Lenexa today. Didn’t stay long but glad I got out the weather was gorgeous. Only took the 1 rod and lure. Still pretty new to jerkbait so not sure if I was twiching too hard, not pausing enough, etc. Guy on a kayak said he caught a dink. Saw about 4 others fishing. Water temp was pretty warm. Guessing high 40’s low 50’s. Quote
HaydenS Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 @Fir3hawkThere is a path down to the cove full of standing timber, go down there and you should catch a few on a jerkbait, the water temp back in that cove is higher then the rest of the lake. It is pretty shallow so watch out that you don't snag. Find some deeper water and you might catch a couple as well. Mix up how hard/soft you twitch, how long you pause, etc, until you find something the fish like. Quote

Was throwing a 6th Sense Provoke 106x in Chrome Threadfin. Never caught on a Jerkbait before, so I was kind of assuming I needed to play with the speed of my pauses and and how hard I twitched. I figured I was twitching too hard and fishing too fast, so tried to slow it down since water is kinda cold. 1 Quote

The process works very will if you take the time to fit the outer rod. The only time I can feel much difference is on light baits. You might consider this as an option next time. Quote
HaydenS Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 Went and fished a private lake in Shawnee, about got blown off of the dock by our hurricane level winds. Caught 30+ fish. Jerkbait, firework jig ned rig, spinnerbait got 'er done. Caught one fish vertical jigging a blade bait off the dock. Went from spinnerbait hater to spinner bait lover this trip! Quote

PotatoLake Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Pomme de terre was 10 feet high, chocolate milk and mostly low 50s water temps. I fished midlake and had a rough go. 3 dinks on a spinnerbait is all I could scratch out. The buck males were in the flooded brush. Never could figure out where or what the females wanted. I bet the fishing will be excellent once the lake clears up and lowers a bit. 2 Quote
Fir3hawk Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Welp... after dancing around PTO days trying to avoid 15+mph winds, I've got tomorrow off. Kind of rough cold front past few days. Leaning towards Hillsdale as it's closest to where my boat is stored and I'd like to run the engine a bit and make sure everything is good as this will be my first time out on the boat this year. Do I chase Crappie or White Bass? Best to head up towards the feeder creeks or toss some jigs down at deeper structure? Thought we were getting close to Crappie spawn but I assume the past few days has got the fish scattered back. Figured a drop-off close to shallow areas might not be a bad place to start. Quote
michael1 Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 I live in Missouri and Tuesday I am heading with a buddy to do some fishing in Kansas. How much is a KS license for a MO resident to buy? I assume I can just go to a Walmart in KS and get it? Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 12, 2021 Global Moderator Posted April 12, 2021 Buy it online and save all the hassle of going to a store. You can download the app the state has for all your licenses to have it on your phone, and print copies. I print several so I have one in my wallet, one in my Stratos, johnboat, truck, bank fishing bag, where ever I feel I might need one. Quote

Warden checked us at a small boat ramp on North end of Hillsdale Sunday. I keep mine in a small tackle bag that I put on my boat, kayak or take shore fishing. There were quite a few folks fishing so when he approached first person I walked back to car and grabbed mine in case he gave us gripes for not having it on us. Quote

In 6 years of living in Kansas, I have never been checked by a game warden. that does not count the Wyandotte county sheriff checking me for a boating and fishing permit. That happens about once a month. Quote
