Made it to La Cygne on Monday.  Tried drop-shot for the first time which will be a Work In Progress this fall for me.  Caught my first bass ever on a drop shot, and boy that was fun!!  Caught only 12-15in bass, all near the reeds.  Was extremely windy that day so fishing on the rip-rap was a chore for my old boat and old trolling motor.  Ending up going to the far northwest corner of La Cygne to get out of the wind.  I didn't have luck there, but my buddy caught a couple of a texas rig worm.  Also caught a big crappie on a crankbait, was going to take him home as daughter wants to learn how to filet a fish.  Unfortunately my live well valve for draining water broke and could not keep water in live well; so had to throw crappie back in the lake.  Another thing to fix on the old gal:(

Will try to get out on Sunday to fish before the Chiefs games....

I've been doing ok in the city and community lakes in south KC lately in the high, muddy waters. I've been using a code blue wobbler almost exclusively. I switched trailers from a Pit Boss to a Menace. The difference in thump is noticeable and I'm really liking them.

Hillsdale has been fishing good the last month. Been catching a lot of fish but yesterday I even managed a good one too.

Got a couple good ones at Olathe, including one of the biggest I've ever caught out there. These are 2 of the half dozen fish I caught in 2 hours I was there.

Olathe was a grind for numbers but the quality was good again yesterday. DT6 was the only thing I could get them to eat.

If anyone’s interested there is a Dobyns Champion 705CB for sale on FB marketplace in Lee’s Summit for $50.

I am trying to buy it but the guy wants it picked up today and I’m up in Omaha so won’t work out for me. If one of you is interested, I can give you the info and you can buy it in my place if he still has it. Disappointed in missing out. It’s a crazy deal.

I reached out to him but he never responded and now has marked them as sold.

I don't fish Melvern like I used too, the big MO lakes have had me busy. I did make it down there yesterday. Was slow, shorts here and there had a huge Smallie and a few 15" LM. I had ran through most of my spots and was ready to leave but decided to hi one last spot on the way back. We landed on that spot just before 2pm. By 2:20 we had caught 6 keepers and maybe 20 other fish under 15". My father was tossing a square bill that couldn't be close to hitting the bottom. I was drop shotting a Googan Baits Drag And Drop mixed in with a underspin Swing Impact. You can see the shallow spot in the image. The cove is the big one going north just east of Turkey point. I have a video of my electronics I'll post if anyone is interested in seeing it.

Did you weight that monster? Has to be 5 or better. The lake has fished really good this year but has taken a beating with everything else being flooded and/or closed. Caught a lot of actual keepers (18+) out there this year. Tons of largemouth and quite a few spots in the lake right now too. I've fished that little cut you did good in before but never done much. That was back when the water was low though, might be more appealing to them now that the water is up a bit.

That was only like 3.7lbs.

Next time you fish that set your boat on the red dot and see if you do better. And, you might need to be farther out than that.

We just did La Cygne yesterday afternoon.  There was 3 of us and we could not get a bite on LM bass.  Said screw it and we went to the outlet and caught a ton of white bass, mostly under 15 inches.  But we refused to be skunked at La Cygne.  For the LM bass, we did the rip rap by the power plant all the way down to outlet.  I was using cranks, one was using worm/jig, and the other guy was mixing it up with everything.  We then went to the cove on far left side of the lake, again nothing.  We then went up stream, still nothing.  We did not use spinnerbaits at all, but I don't know if that would have made a difference.  Talked to one other boater out there and he said the LM bite was horrible too.

I'd rather bass fish Wal-Mart parking lot vs that place. I never do well out there.

I wish more people felt that way so it didn't get so much pressure. It's only taken fishing it regularly for 2 decades to get to the point where I rarely get skunked.

I agree. I have seen a lot of fishermen launch their boat with high hopes. Then a couple hours later leave depressed.

It took me 3 years of fishing it hard to  eliminate  most of the skunks there.

I have learned that you have to get creative and think outside the box, to be successful at La Cygne.

Last year it skunked me three times. This year it only skunked me once.

I have never caught huge numbers of  bass there.

The reason I make the trip there is the chance for a trophy.

I have yet to not weigh fish out there. That said, we won't talk about much after that lol. I don't put the work in out there like a few other places. If you fish a 20 boat tourney out there that's a lot of boats, if you don't blast off in the top 10 you get to reinvent the wheel. I see myself as a sponsor really. Going to Truman to get roughed up sunday. probably get lost on the lake..

spent 4 hours at La Cygne today. There were ten trailers in the parking lot when I got there.

Fished warm water for around 4 hours. Tried several different baits, but the jerkbait reigned supreme.

caught 11 bass total.

these were the largest three.

Fished La Cygne Monday, caught about 20, mostly like this;

But I did sneak in one better one.

Squarebill, jerkbait, spinnerbait, shakyhead, and trap caught all my fish.

I want to sling a jerkbait around a little bit tomorrow and I’m thinking about heading to lake shawnee. However, I’ve never been there before. Is there any type of boat permit I need to purchase or any other fees? Just want to be prepared. I’m having a hard time finding any of this info in the internet. Can anyone share what they know?

If you are talking about shawnee lake in Topeka, the only permit is for trout.

If you are not keeping trout, you do not need the permit.

Shawnee mission lake in Shawnee, requires a boating and fishing permit. if you are keeping trout a trout permit is also required
