Cedar Creek is kind of like Critzer Lake that they opened up in Mound City, it almost has too much standing timber, I can't even get my boat through a lot of it. I'm sure Cedar Creek has some big fish in it but I've never caught any. I'm not sure I could get them up through the timber even if I could get one on. There's lots of fish in cedar for sure and some pretty decent fish too but the size of the fish are a lot like Bourban State Lake but it's a lot harder to fish because of all the trees.

Speaking of critzer, went there on the 4th. It was hot (yep).

Anyhow, it was pretty slow. My buddy and I caught about six a piece, most coming from the dam.

I ended up with a smallmouth out there, so that was kind of fun.

What did you think of Critzer? I thought the trees were a little too thick down there, I couldn't even get through them about 1/2 the time. I was also under the impression that they were just short of jumping in the boat, I worked hard to catch a couple dozen, none of them bigger than about 2 pounds. I didn't catch a single fish off the dam down there. A guy I work with has several pictures of him and his friend with 5+ pound fish from out there, all on jigs according to him.

Friend and I are hitting Miami tomorrow, storms or no storms. I could think of worst ways to go than struck by lightening while I was fishing :eyebrows: Should be a good swimbait bite with the cool down and the forcasted clouds tomorrow. If not I know they'll always eat a jig or a squarebill, usually both. Hopefully have a good report tomorrow night.

Going early and staying until about 4 if they're biting. Friend of mine went last Saturday and had about 40 with a 4 pounder being the biggest and his friend had another 15 or 20. I'm sure the first hour or two will be by far the best like it normally is.

They're not just a little too thick. They are too thick. I know that the fishing can be good there, but you have to be about crazy and in a really small jon boat to get to the good spots. Plus, all of it starts looking the same which can drive a man crazy. I'm fortunate fish were relating to the dam the other day. That made things easy.

It didn't rain on us all day and the fishing at Miami sucked! I got 8 in about 2 hours with a 4.73lb fish being the only bigger than 15".

It was so slow we decided to go try a super secret lake :eyebrows: I got permission to fish a 30 acre lake I grew up on in Piper, KS since it was made private several years ago. The fish there were healthy and hungry :respect-059: I caught 26 and Jon probably had 15 or 20 himself. No big bass, but several over 15" up to about 18", a lot of fun and sore ribs since they were eating plastics. One bite was decidedly different. I was hoping it was a big bass but this chunky flathead was still a good time. He at a Havoc Craw Fatty and he hasn't missed many meals for sure!

I don't feel so bad now. The last time I went I was focusing on some spots I normally wouldn't fish trying to find a summertime pattern. I showed up before the sun and caught NOTHING for the first hour!

Who's boat in the last 2 pics was that at the pond?

BTW, I'm thinking about putting my tin can on CL Today if anyone knows someone looking. $2k

That's my friend's boat who lives on the lake I was fishing.

We were geared up for it to rain and about 10 minutes before we went home it sprinkled just hard enough for us to feel for about 5 seconds.

I love critzer lake earlier this year i caught a 5 1/2 lber out of there and several 2lb-3lb fish we had a great day out there. Im glad i dont have a fiberglass boat when i go out there because my aluminum boat goes through hell.

And since you guys are talking about miami have any of you ever fished that area that is on the other side of the road? I managed to fit my boat under that culvert thing and threw frogs over there and did really good actually i was surprised.

and as a side note has anyone been seeing bullfrogs around at any of the lakes? I havent been seeing that many when I go after them

I also have an aluminum, a 16' Lowe Roughneck but those trees we're too thick for me to get through on Critzer unless I started the big motor and powered through and I wasn't up to that.

I've launched my boat directly into that little pond to the east at Miami and it can be some great fishing. The weeds are terrible this year so I haven't fished it but I'm sure it would be good with frogs. We almost tried it the other day but decided to head to the next lake where I knew we could catch some fish.

I have seen a ton of bullfrogs at a couple public ponds, big, topwater frog eating sized frogs.

Went to my 'practice lake' DGCO overnight and got alot of new patterns worked out. I'm trying to get more ways to attack that deep water and all the healthy bass were suspended between 15-20 feet so that was the time to do it... water temp 86!! In the morning it felt like i was pulling my lures out of a hottub as i fixed em I swear.

Gradual points with some grass on them were producing by either ripping a squarebill through it or a Swim Jig. That was my first time sporting one and I gotta say i really liked it. The splashdowns are real quiet because the skirt acts like a parachute before it hits the water. Plus you could just rip it through anything and fish it any way you want. Probably got half of my fish off of one.

The other thing I felt good about was fishing a shakeyhead on ledges in that deep of water, I got picked up a ton but was using those Zoom elastech worms and kept losing them. The bait is incredibly durable and trust me the fish hang on to it, I had a ton of times where i got one halfway up to the boat before they realized i was dragging them up on that super-stretch worm. Just wish they'd eat the dang thing.

You guys find any new patterns to beat the heat? Fishing 20 feet straight down aint so easy it turns out...

Ton of em at DGCO... I'm almost certain i heard one become a 4:30 breakfast for a bass this morning in the cove closest to me.. Now if only the neighbor dogs that wont shut up would get carried of by mutant eagles or something...

Well gonna be off the water a while, the rear x member on my trailer broke in the middle, :cry4: luckily did not drop motor lower unit to the road! Called a buddy who has a good shop with lots of equipment so will limp it over there drop boat in his pond and see what we can do to repair the trailer. Hopefully I can catch him this week and get the trailer back in commission soon. :respect-059:

Trailer problems suck! I've spun a bearing on the road twice and ruined an axle one of those times.

Never heard of him but looking at those pictures I'd guess he lives on a private lake with little fishing pressure. Several of the pictures have the same house or dock in the background like he's catching them in his backyard and taking pictures of them.
