never heard of shadow lake. Is it a private lake, similar to lake Quivira.

Pretty sure Agent means Shadow Glen/Cedar Creek, private. I have fished their a few times, nice water, very little pressure.

day started out tough at La Cygne. lost first four fish. All were in the 3-4 pound range.

Day immediately got better when I landed this big girl. it was the only fish I got in the boat today.

23 inches long. 7lb 11oz.

caught it on a belly weighted fluke. in about 12 foot of water.

Just noticed Bassmaster magazine ranked La Cygne number 10 in the central region for best bass lakes of 2018.

Hope this does not start a mass exodus of boats to this already pressured lake.

Great fish! That Ol' gal isn't missing any meals. I look at the stack every day on the way home from work and think I should go there on my day off and keep going somewhere else. Now I have guide trips starting to pile up and obviously not a great option for novice anglers so I probably won't see it for another month unless I go on a Thursday after I get off work at 8 and miss the topwater bite.

while I don't have near the experience on this lake as you, I am slowly starting to learn the quirks of this lake.

One day it can make you wonder if there are any bass in the lake. The next it can seem like bass fishing Nirvana.

I just like the potential for a truly giant fish. I've caught plenty of little fish in my life, they're fun, but now I'm much more interested in catching big ones. It can happen on any cast out there and like you found, that one bite can make the whole day.

I am the same way. I have bass fished for nearly 40 years.  I can catch a ton of small fish 5 minutes away at Wyandotte.

I have no problem fishing all day for 1 or 2 big bites.

the 1 hour drive to La Cygne is well worth the potential for 1 big fish.

Most local bass fishermen I have talked to, don't like La Cygne. They fish it once or twice and leave disappointed.

hit La Cygne this morning.

decided to try  a 6XD on a couple ledges. caught 2 drum 2 catfish and an angry gar.

switched over to a zoom ol monster and got 5 bass in the boat.

these were the 2 biggest. 3.2 and 4lbs.

Took my kayak to Guy B near Platte City yesterday to try a couple new rigs out. First I went with a weightless fluke and caught a few dinks along the banks. Then I switched to a drop shot which was very frustrating to work thru all the weeds but I did manage to catch quite a few dinks. After that I switched to a small chatterbait and trailer fished in the middle of the lake just above the weeds and had better luck and pulled in about a 2.5-3 lb’er and a bunch of smaller ones. Probably pulled in about 30 total all together. Had a great time and learned a lot.

Big bass from our Thursday night deal at Douglas state fishing lake last week.  2.55lbs on a gilly big head wobbler.  The wobbler bite was pretty good around the grass where there was a little wind.  Plenty of dinks to keep things interesting too.

good luck. I have fished it quite a bit the last couple weeks. nearly every fish I have caught was out on structure.

caught a couple dinks flipping the willows, otherwise everything was out in 10-20 ft. of water.

haven't tried the river. The water was pretty hot on the upper end of the lake.

decided to try La Cygne again today. a 6XD caught this 11 lb. 2 oz. flathead.

the only thing I have caught on crankbaits this year in Kansas are catfish and drum.

finally gave up on the crankbait and caught 2 bass on a magnum trick worm. first one was right at 3lbs.

this one was 6lb. 4oz.

only had 3 bites all day and the fish were right at 15 feet deep.

Noticed the lake level has dropped significantly in the last 3 weeks. there are new trees sticking out of the water in marina cove. the county closed the small boat east dock, because the water was too shallow.  the ramp is still open but you have to use the west docks.

We watched you land the flathead. We caught 3 of them today, 1 on a 6XD and 2 dragging plastic. All of them were carbon copies of each other. Only weighed one and it was 14 1/4. Caught around 15 bass, mostly on craws and beavers but had one on a spook and a couple on a Ned too. Didn't weigh any bass but had a couple in the 3lb range and one probably a little over 5.

I thought that looked like your boat. It was probably comical watching me land the  catfish. he did't fit in the net and it became a game of cat and mouse.

I wasted too much time trying to crank up a big bass from the deeper water.

should have went to the soft plastics earlier.

I have fished this lake about a dozen times now. I still don't consider it an easy lake to fish, but it definitely has potential for big fish.

Looking for this hook.  I know could order on Amazon but would ship from China taking forever to get here.  Anyone know where I might find them locally??

I have a mold to pour weighted hooks but it's more down around the bend of the hook instead of up near the eye like that. I'm not sure if I could shift the hook around to get the lead poured up that high.

Our better catches from La Cygne on Friday. Flatheads were on a 6XD, Z-Craw, and Yo-Momma, bass was on the Z-Craw.

i have noticed a lot of the flatheads are similar size. did they stock a bunch of them at one time?

They don't stock any, they just have a very good survival rate in La Cygne. It has the highest density of flatheads in the state for reservoirs last I heard. I've caught them from little 1-2 pounders up to 40 pounds from the lake. Flatheads are really good at protecting their nest, theirs lots of places for babies to hide, and tons of food for them to grow and distract other predators.

Went to Hillsdale the other weekend and fished the first part of the day. Bites were weak, caught some baby bass, a crappie, and maybe a panfish I think. Biggest bass was caught in about 5 feet of water using a 10 inch Rage Tail worm in green/red pumpkin. About 2.5lb and about 18inches. I suck at eoem fishing, so I was doing only work to better my skill. Was really happy to catch my PB in a worm.

I went to Belcher Branch for the first time last weekend. Bite was extremely slow but I did manage to catch my first bass on a frog ? on a spinning rod. That was fun. I think I need to to get myself a Frog Rod.
