Nope, they're like a MLF format that the fish are weighed and released immediately. If someone catches an over they can bring it in, but it's not required. We're not trying to kill a rare bigger fish over a couple dollars.

Good to hear.  I personally don’t understand the draw if tourneys but like to see people adopting the MLF format. I don’t mind people taking fish to eat, but hauling around in a live well for a weigh-in and a picture doesn’t seem right to me; it would also be illegal in my state.

But how can you post your 5 fish limit on instagram if you don't jam all the fish in your livewell when you are fun fishing??? Kind of like throwing a 7 lber in the boat and taking it for a boat ride all day in case you catch some other big ones to take a photo with when you are just out fishing for fun.  Stupid.  Especially on most of the small lakes around here.

Preach! Also not helped by the growing trend of companies offering people discounts/free swag in exchange for some hashtags, has alot of guys convinced they're pro now :annoyed1:

That's how most of my bigger fish out there have been. That lake gets beat to death by weekend guys who jam cull tabs in the fish and haul them around all day for little jackpot tournaments or just to take pictures at the end of the day. Stresses the fish really bad when the water's in the 80s like it is all summer while they're doing that. Probably kill a bunch of big fish from it too. Didn't used to be like that out there but word gets around and some guys can't help but wreck a lake until they hear about something better.

I never understood the need to box fish while fun fishing. Perhaps I'm not catching the right caliber of fish...

I'm hopeful for that lake, but I have certainly been it busy and I did appreciate having a bit of space out in the high winds on Saturday... Given the forecast I think there might be lot of space on the water available going forward.

Don't waste your time on Truman, fish the strip pits in Clinton instead. It's called Pogue or something like that. Was a lot of fun when I fished it.

What baits and lures work well out there? I capsized last weekend and lost a good deal of gear so my selection is limited.

That sucks, I dumped myself on my yak once but I was trout fishing so lost a minimal amount of fishing gear. The phone and Garmin Virb Elite action camera I lost was where I really took a hit.

I've never needed anything other than a spinnerbait anytime I've been there. Looks like it would be a good place for a T rigged beaver or tube too though and I'm sure a weightless Senko would work.

I fished Miami on Sunday afternoon from 1 to 5 and could not get a bite until about 4. Fish were in the warmest water I could find (I was kicking myself for not finding it earlier). The swim jig did the best for me- I had a lot of short strikes, but rotated through colors and trailers and ended up catching a quick handful. The largest fish was about 4lb and fat. Water temps were from 52-54.

Watkins Mill has been rough the past two weeks. Only a 1lb fish this weekend.

I need some suggestions for decent kayak bassfishing water. Something relatively protected from the wind.

I live in Kansas , so most of my fishing is done there.

I have kayaked, Leavenworth County lake, Olathe Lake, and Wyandotte county lake. They all have decent bass populations. Of the three Wyandotte gives you the best chance of getting out of the wind.

If the wind is blowing, It is hard to find calm water at Olathe and Leavenworth.

I have seen people Kayaking the slough creek arm on Perry.  if you stay east of the slough creek bridge it usually stays fairly calm. It gets rough west of the bridge. You can usually catch a few bass around the bridge and on the rocky banks east of the bridge.

hope this helps.

Lake Shawnee was on fire Monday. Got some wipers and several largemouth at Olathe Tuesday. Just a very few of the fish we caught at Shawnee in the video. There was so many clips of catches that I just cut it way down so it didn't look like I had it on loop for half an hour.

If you ever get to the Kansas side, Lake Lenexa is pretty protected and a good little kayak lake.

I have a Kansas permit but the whole county specific permit thing is confusing. Do I just need a state permit for Lake Lenexa? I know Wyandotte does.

Not for Lenexa. You need a JOCO permit for Shawnee Mission Park, Heritage, and Lexington I believe.

Those lakes worth the permit?

SMP and Lexington are both good lakes. Heritage I wouldn't waste my time with.  Kill Creek is another one that the JOCO permit gets you on and is another good, small lake for kayaks (less than 30 acres).

Lexington is very small, about 20 acres, with tons of lily pads. I've been there once and did pretty well in the 2 hours I had to fish.

I don't fish SMP as much as I should. It's been fishing very well the last couple times I've been.

Hello everyone, I’ve been lurking for awhile now and I’ve finally decided to create an account. I went to Lake Shawnee both Tuesday and Friday of this week and like Blue’s video shows the jerkbait bite is on. A silver/black rapala rip stop did ok on Tuesday with a few more on a wacky rig, then Friday a bone colored shadow rap, and a elite blue? Shadow rap shad were all I used and it was without a doubt the best day I’ve ever had on Lake Shawnee. I have yet to catch a smallmouth out of that lake, but I did see my first one on Friday, but it turned around as soon as I saw it.

Welcome Lincoln!

I went back to Shawnee this past Monday and picked up right where I'd left off last week.

Thank you for the welcome Blue. I went again on Tuesday, and it wasn’t nearly as good as Friday but I still found a few that were willing to play along but I only got one picture, it’s telling me it’s too big to upload though. And I swear every drum in the lake does the same thing to me, I had one this summer that got an entire squarebill in its mouth to the point that all you could see was the bill sticking out.

A few of my buddies were out there yesterday and tore them up again. It was the same thing I found though, long stretches of nothing, but then they were really grouped up when they found them.

I've never caught this many larger fish from Shawnee. Last week we would have had a 20lb 5 fish limit and this week I'd have been in the high teens with a 3.81, 4.11, and 4.46 for my 3 biggest fish. Hopefully a sign that the fish are finally getting over the LMBV.

I haven’t been finding the size that you have, my biggest one might have gone 3, but I am happy to hear that bigger ones are being found. I will say that every one I have caught has been fat and healthy looking though

I've noticed that as well. The fish are extremely thick and very healthy looking. Gardner lake did a rapid about face when it recovered from LMBV 2 years ago. Went from rarely seeing fish over 3 pounds, to being almost uncommon to go there and not catch a fish over 3 and not at all rare to catch them over 4 pounds. I'd never seen one over 4 from Shawnee (a green one anyways). Now I've seen 3 over 4 and one over 5 in 2 weeks there. Gives me something else to be excited about every time I go there now.

Living 5 minutes from that lake it’s very good news, now I just need to get better at finding them lol
