Missouribassman95 Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 I know this isn't exactly related to what you guys are talking about, but what's the name of the lake right before you hit Blue Springs along I-70 going east? I looked at it on google earth but it didn't have a name. It's past Grain Valley, and it's right before NE Adams Dairy Pkwy. Thanks, Quote

Thanks, I've driven past the lake you're talking about I believe, right off I-70 to the north with several brushpiles or standing trees visible from the road? I've looked on google earth to try to find a name of it also and have had no luck. It looks public but every time I've been by it I haven't had time to drive around it or anything. Quote

Ya, that's the one I was talking about. Except I meant going WEST (not east) into Blue Springs. I've only seen one boat on it even though I've driven past it countless times. Quote

Super User Hi Salenity Posted June 4, 2012 Super User Posted June 4, 2012 So it rained Sunday morning so we didn't get on the water until around 9. Not a lot to report Sunday, 2 cats, 2 crappie all on a Mepps Several whites but no Greens or Browns that made it in the boat. I did have 2 unknown fish to the boat that were in the 2' range easily. I was brown and may have been a Carp and the other was Black. I didn't see it's head but it's tail could have gone 6'' tall fanned out. The camp sight was $22.70 with a truck pass!!! We stayed in 38 on church hill loop. We were the only ones in a tent everyone else was in RV's A tournament was just getting over as we got off the water. It took just over 9# to win it and paid $500 to win and my buddy said he thought they said it paid $300 something for second! I talked to a guy that fished in it and he said the winner had 1-15'' 1-14'' and the rest were 13'' fish? I can't make that add up we got a smallie that went 16'' and it didn't go 2# maybe I need new scales LOL! Do they let you enter 13'' fish in Tournaments? Anyhow this was the fish if the weekend. I had one almost as big but the pic sucks. Anyhow it was a great weekend I hope I can make it out again next weekend. Quote

If you had the boat ware you could just cast to the bank we would see them jumping behind us. we actually caught them fishing away from the shore. (hope that makes sense) We did see lots of boats fishing in deep water but I'm not sure if they were fishing for bass or crapie? Quote

My best inside source said last report he had was tough but he wasn't sure the guy he got the report from knew much about what he was doing. Just so everyone knows, since there are two ramps in the state park, We'll be going from the East ramp, the one closest to the dam. The wife and I spent the weekend at Milford with some of my family and had a blast! We were the first two there Friday night. We threw the tent up and cooked some hotdogs and still had half an hour before dark so we dropped the boat in and fished around the boat ramp cove in a couple spots I knew had some good fish. We were on fish immediately. My wife caught a big crappie, a little wiper and a little largemouth. I caught this chunky 16 inch largemouth on a popper. Flipped into the same spot with a football jig and got thumped by this 18" largemouth. . Caught a couple small smallmouth before we called it a night. Next morning was chilly! We started in the same area and it was way slower. I caught a couple smallmouth and small wipers. Tossed a trap at some wipers and was surprised by this 17" greenie. Most trips I don't catch a single largemouth but not the case this trip! We went to the dam and I spent most of the next 2 hours unhooking my wife's fish. She was kicking my butt from the back of the boat. This is one of her biggest smallmouths and one of 2 keepers she caught. They weren't all bass either. She got worn out from catching fish I guess and decided to lay out in the back of the boat for awhile. I throw netted some shad to drag behind the boat while I was fishing for smallmouth to try to get a big wiper. First fish was a goldeye, looked like a little tarpon except they have teeth! Little ways further I heard a clunk behind me and turned around to see my rod folded in half and line burning off the spool. A nice fight and I got this 4.89lb wiper in the boat. I ended up with 59 bass Saturday and my wife outfished me bad, not sure what her final numbers were but I know I unhooked way more of her fish that I did mine. Sunday I went out by myself in the morning before the forcasted storms that never happened rolled in. I got a couple pretty nice smallmouth at 17 and 16.5 inches. I really liked the colors on the second one. Spent the rest of the day catfishing with my aunt trying to catch her some dinner. Not much luck but one small blue and one small channel should be enough for 2 people I hope. Had a blast for sure! Quote
Chris S Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Question: I have a yearly boat ramp sticker for Hillsdale, does that not get me the use of Melvern's State owned boat ramps at no charge?? Quote

Is it the vehicle pass that you put on your windshield to get into state parks? If so then you're good to go for the vehicle pass and ramp fee in the state park where we're going from, you'll just have to pay for your camping spot. 1 Quote

retro basser Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 Our Melvern get together went down this weekend and was a good time but we had to earn it, thats for sure. Wind wasnt too bad until about 9 AM and then it was just bombing the whole north side of the lake. The moving bait bite was pretty much over after the first thing in the morning for us, then we just had to pick em off with plastics. My partner Chris is good with a shakeyhead and picked up quality fish with it throughout the day. I thought we were going to pick up a couple more coming over the side of the boat driving back across the 3 foot breaks at the end of the day. Chris Schauer was the only one lucky enough to camp out and fish it twice... since he wasnt as pressed for time he took a break to get a piercing done: Even with that in his finger he still toughed it out and stayed out in the chop longer than us... I think the big bass of the day went to the Chris on my boat, a smallie just shy of 3 pounds. Picture doesnt do it justice, the thing was raisin hell coming into the boat and just real healthy. I've had easier days on the lake by a long shot, but it was good to meet some of the guys, and the beers, brats, n burgers afterwards were all the better cause we earned em.. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 12, 2012 Global Moderator Posted June 12, 2012 It was a lot of fun despite the wind. The fish were making us work since they wouldn't touch a moving bait, fishing slow in a wind like that isn't easy. I'm glad everyone was able to make it out there and catch some fish! Hopefully Chris got that hook out of his finger without an issue once he got to the hospital. We'll have to try to plan the next one a little further out so if more people want to go they'll have the chance to get the day off. Quote
