Besides, I have been fishing Olathe less and less every year. Only fished Cedar once last year. I used to fish Cedar a ton when I was in high school and college. Many a 5 pound fish came into my bass raider over the years from that lake. There was about a 2 year period where it was straight chocolate milk from the exit/on ramps they put in on lone elm, and the lake just has not been the same since then. I won't talk about the amount of big fish I used to catch out of SMP when I was a teenager, just depressing to think about what it's turned into today. 1 Quote

My first Kansas bass after moving here from Wisconsin was from SMP. I was like 12, and it was well over 5 lbs. Second cast, chart spinnerbait right at the well/intake off the dam. 1 Quote

Biggest one I've seen from there was when I was a freshman in high school and I didn't even carry a scale with me. Buddy caught it on the dam and it was easily 6 lbs. Quote

I just think there are plenty 5+ ones left in there. Jake caught one well over 4 last year and he probably only fished the lake once. The year before that he caught one over 4 too and probably only fished it twice. If I didn't have to buy the JOCO crap I would fish there a lot. If I had to pick a place to catch a big one today I would go to SMP over Olathe without hesitation. Cedar has big ones in it too. Just SOOO many bank fisherman since they opened up the south side that its hardly worth putting the boat in. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 10, 2016 Global Moderator Posted May 10, 2016 The boat and fishing permits aren't that much for a JOCO resident. I need to get my Jacomo permit is what I need. That lake has a great swimbait bite and I'm itching for some swimbait fish but the high, muddy water is messing my chances up. 3 Quote

Right at the beginning of the season, super early Spring I got a new rod and it turned off nice and I stopped by on my way home. One cast. Ranger got me. I had my KS & MO licenses already but hadn't picked up my permit. Luckily I got my permit and then took the ticket up to Olathe to pay it at the courthouse and the lady was super nice and took it from my hands and said "do you have your permit now?" and i said "Yes mam" thinking she was going to be rude and she took my ticket and torn it up in front of me and threw it away. Not sure if this is standard procedure or not LOL Quote

Really wish I could get out on Jacomo, but my 150hp is far over Jacomo's horsepower limit. The boat permit you have to buy is for all the lakes in Jackson county, and is rather expensive Quote

Jacomo is big for a kayak, but can't put my boat out there either. If Rippin Lips gets fixed up and doesn't find a home on a private lake I might register it for out there again. 1 Quote

Plus it's open 24/7 instead of those stupid no night fishing lakes, and it's a really good night lake. Add that to the fact that it has a good population of big fish and there's no jetskis, wake boats, or skiers, and limited shoreline access for the meat hunters, it's a pretty appealing lake to fish. 1 Quote

You're preaching to the choir bub! Lol But Rome wasn't built in a day...can only do so much at a time. Glued some plastic clips on gunwale today so I can run the ducer cord to the depthfinder unit without having cord laying everywhere. Then I gotta get an aft light and figure out why port and starboard lights aren't working. Plus I wanna put some of those strip lights on it too (think I'm gonna go with UV/black lights...for night fishing with fluorescent line). Quote

I emailed the county a while back asking if they could remove the horsepower restriction in the late fall, winter, and early spring because no sail boats or pontoons are ever out during those months. Thought it was worth a shot since I'm already paying for the county pass and I live about 2 minutes from Jacomo, but they said no way 1 Quote

I don't understand why they can't just keep it so it's no wake for boats above the HP restriction. They have to realize they're losing out on a lot of money because of it. Quote

It's crap. Don't even get me started on the county commission. 1 Quote

I pay more to fish the Bun for a single day though. 1 Quote

Last year I bought all the JOCO stuff and fished SMP twice and never made it to Kill Creek. So I essentially paid $15 a day EXTRA to fish SMP. That's why I decided not to buy it this year. Quote
DodgeRamWax Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Fished Lone Star Saturday for 4-5 hours. Caught 20-30 bass. Only 2 would have been close to touching a 15 inch board. water was 68 degrees most of the lake. Still extremely weedy in the dock arm. Quote

Which is weird because last year it took no time at all, really. But that may have been due to the extreme rains we got after they treated it which drained off most of the slop still remaining. 1 Quote
