One of the best parts from last night.

I know this is not the same but it reminds me of when me and a buddy were on the Missouri river catfishing.   I had three baitcaster reels set up in the holders and he had three spinning rods in the holders because he cannot cast a baitcaster without it going horribly wrong.  I will admit it was about 1 in the morning and we had had our baits in the water for quite a while so we got into the cooler of beer.   I was about 5 beers in and one of my rods clickers started screaming.   I had caught four or five catfish that night and he had caught none so I said " Take that rod!!"   He went up and took a hold of it and jerked with all of his might without first engaging the reel.    So.....I was left with 200 yards of 80lb powerpro in a nest about 3 foot in diameter.   But the beer was cold and he learned the valuable lesson that it is better to backlash someone else's reel than yours.    5 years later I still remind him that he still sucks......

I forgot to turn off my baitfeeder on the river once when I had a good run and blew up a big Okuma Epixor 90 baitfeeder, it's not pretty.

Heading to Truman lake and Lake of the Ozarks next Wednesday through Sunday. Putting in at Bledsoe Ferry ( Ozarks) & Osage Bluff marina. Anybody fished these sections of the lakes?? I noticed from looking at water levels Ozarks is 2' low and Truman is 4' high. I'm assuming with the water in the low 60s the fish will be spawning.

Probably start in the backs and work out.... what you guys think?

I rolled by the arms of truman on 13 yesterday, it's a warm brown color right now.  I mean one step from chocolate milk.  But it way up from last week.

Always a pleasure Cootie. I still wish it was a weekly thing....:(

I think we have a good alternate plan.  Now if someone would just catch a keeper.

Next year just be a BA state what the rules are.

Keith and I had a buzzbait mishap as well...and it cost him one of his favorite buzzbaits.

And I had a rod (rod tip insert) mishap...good thing I've got an H2O Express rod, looks like I'll be making a trip to Academy for a new 7ft MH rod this weekend.

All you need is a lighter, some hot glue, and a new tip to fix it.

The insert is completely gone,,,,and Academy has a no questions asked return/replace policy, so I'll just get a new rod,

Mr. Big Bass hit Smithville today with Jon.  Quality was there, but we couldn't get on any kind of quantity.  On the water at daybreak and fished for about 7 hours.  Water temps 61-68 (the water warmed 7 degrees in the creeks).  Was expecting high water, but dang...never seen it that high out there.  Lots of bushes to flip, which we thought would be the ticket with the warming water temps.

Fished around awhile without much to show for it.  Jon had one blow up on a popper, but then we went about an hour and half without another bite.  Jon was the first one on the board after that with a 3-15.  Very nice fish, and we thought it was going to be on!  Didn't turn out that way, but we did pick up a few other nice fish.  I had a 4-6 (1 oz smaller than DoCo), and a 3-9.  All told, our boat had 13-13 on four fish (over 15" to be a keeper).  My buddy caught a 4lb in his boat that put the total for the three of us over 18 lbs.  Wish we could have found more fish, but feeling relatively ok about Saturday's tourney and had a really great time out there today.  Should be a candidate for a Thursday night off night event IMO!   Open it up to a bigger crowd maybe meet some new folks.

Hitting up Lone Star in the morning. Any one know the water clarity?

Posted

Went to Wolf Creek today from 7:30-1. Fishing was very, very good with quality to go along with quantity. Fished southern half of the lake, lake was up a little. Most fish came out of 2-5 feet of water.

Prob 50 caught out of my boat

Tourney down there tomorrow(Sat) as they were setting up for it today, just an FYI

Dunno about the clarity but the word I hear on it is that it's crappy still due to the recent chemical weed kill.

Went to smithville last night and was casting the banks with a KVD square bill.  Did not catch one bass but did catch crappie up to 12" around the brush piles.  Water is starting to clear a little and the fish seem to getting back to business as usual.   It was a pretty night though...

Hey I was wondering what are the laws regarding Kansas registered boats being used in Missouri and vice versa?

So long as you're legally registered in one state you're good in another.  Just like your car.

I took that photo yesterday. Don't bother. It'll be at LEAST another month before lone star is on the mend.

Fished the annual Special Olympics of Kansas Crappie tournament today at Clinton. Ran across my biggest Clinton Smallie to date first thing in the morning. The incidental brown fish are my favorite part of the spawn.

Dad and I fished Clinton for walleye Thursday. Fishing was pretty much all we did. I think I caught 8 walleye, none even close to needing to measure. Dad caught a tiny white bass, a tiny channel cat, and a 16" walleye, so he got his walleye dinner he wanted.

Friday I fought the urge to just stop and La Cygne and drove to Pleasanton, boy would I have loved to have those 3 hours back! I caught 4, 2 that I don't know would have even registered if I tried to weigh them they were so small, 1 on a wacky rig that didn't go 2 pounds, and my first topwater fish of the year on a popper. Pulled the plug and was on La Cygne by 11. Spawning carp and more drum then I have ever seen at La Cygne did not inspire much confidence, but I caught an 8 incher my first cast with a Ned so I felt better. After half the dam and not another bite, that confidence was drying up quickly. I made a small change when I lost my Ned, the next 3 hours panned out about as good as you can hope for on that lake.

Saw a few of these along the dam, this was the only one dumb enough to let me get too close.

Man rain.......

And the water at Smithville was just starting to clear up a little.  I am going to bet that the crappie will be done and really will not spawn.   I wonder what will happen to the bass?

Any seen this? It's the cities plan with Olathe lake. Way to ruin a nice lake. They're doing it with cedar lake too, just click on the suggested "cedar lake" video.

How is that ruining the lake? Looks awesome to me.

It will be too busy to fish, and full of idiots. Maybe it won't change much (fishing wise) for you guys with boats, but for guys on the banks, they are taking away all the good fishing spots. Maybe I'm just being negative, and it will be a good thing.

I think you will be surprised. It's too small and too easy to patrol for idiots to take over. Hillsdale will still get the idiot population. Looks like they are adding a pond too. I'll do some info digging at work (I work for the city) and see what I can come up with.

@micahthorlawson and I fished Miola for a few hours Saturday morning. Not awful but not what we expected from Miola. Caught my first top water fish of the year on a spook and Micah put a few in the boat early on his new whopper plopper. Caught fish intermittently all up and down the lake with no real pattern to speak of. Biggest was a very skinny 17" fish that fell to a black and blue Big Head Wobbler up in the dirty water.

Much like Bluebasser had at La Cygne, carp spawning everywhere. Got our hopes up driving across the dam to the ramp in the morning seeing all those blowups. Could have shot several if we had Micah's bow.

They will break a top water fisherman's heart every time.

Hey guys I am still pretty new to fishing on the lakes around here and public lakes in general(grew up fishing smaller private lakes).  After really struggling so far this year I wanted to see if anyone on here had any suggestions.

i fished three days over the past week at Jacomo and Blue Springs and only came away with two small bass.  Water temp was 67-70 and suprisely clear.  I fished the pockets with soft plastics, buzz bait, soft jerk bait mostly.  Tried a spinner bait and swimming jig today.

does that sound right or is there another approach that would be better at this water temp?

thanks

I've never fished Blue Springs, but I've heard it's very tough.

I like Jacomo. This time of year out there you should be able to catch fish on a wacky rig pretty well. Toss it around cover and right on the weedlines and you'll get bit.
