Took the kayak out to Watkins Mill on Sunday and didn't catch a ton of fish but I did manage to catch the one in the picture on a shakey head after she picked up a reaction innovations sweet beaver off her bed and wouldn't eat it. Didn't have my scale with me but she had to be over 6. definitely my PB from the YAK.

No takers on the Plopper. Caught one on a Spook there Saturday morning and my buddy I was with caught one on a buzz bait so I thought I'd give the Plopper a try.

Melvern lake :

Sat / Sun combined for a total of around 100 fish. Wind was definitely a burden throughout the weekend. Unfortunately there were only 6 keepers in 2 days of fishing. Only one being over 18" and it was a largemouth. I'd have to say there is a healthy population of 14.5 - 14.75" type of fish because we caught a bunch of those. water temps ranged from 53-66 depending where you were on the lake west to east south to north.

Hoping for a better outcome in a few weeks.

You're going to find 10x more small males up shallow right now anyhow. Won't be long before the big girls move up.

yeah I'm not familiar enough with the lake to know where the big girls like to spend their time early spring. we were fishing points and secondary points or any irregularity they we could see or find off shore. rock piles, boulders, shelf rock etc. Lost a couple smallies that would of kept but they were being real acrobatic and threw the hook. O well still a fun couple days on the lake minus the wind.

I was there Saturday and it sure seemed like a tougher bite. I struggled with both numbers and size-- it was probably my worst outing there this spring. I think the wind made it so difficult to fish anywhere but the protected areas so that concentrated everyone on the water into those areas. I saw people on some areas I have pretty much had to myself most of the spring. Even had a bank angler sprint from his minnow bucket to the point I was getting positioned to cast on. He hadn't been fishing that point any of the 15 minutes I had been in the area working an offshore dropoff. That was probably the first time he sprinted in years.

Anyway, the fish seemed pressured to me. Whereas I would normally find a small area that would give up 6-10 fish, I would only get one or two off each spot Saturday. Sounds like you at least found numbers of the males willing to bite.

We fished in the wind to get away from the crowds most of the time. Most people don't want to go brave the 2- 3' rollers. made it tough to feel the fish at times but we got after them. Caught a 2.46# white bass along with 11 of his buddies and a 15" crappie that a friend took home to clean. YES we found the males and surprisingly a lot of the 14" fish were females. Looked like they had a pop can for a gut full of eggs. I only caught one fish all weekend that looked to of been spawning and she was caught down lake where the temps were right at 60.

Possibly going out Monday depending on the rain and if I get the itch to go smoke another gobbler with the bow. Good luck to y'all this weekend.

Went to Melvern this morning. Fished from 9-2:30. Water temp was 58-59 in TC & Eisenhower. Caught fish from first cast until time we left. A few solid brown fish but most were very small. Could not get bit on anything beside a Ned, and believe me I tried. Caught the bass trifecta along with numerous whites, Dam was en fuego! Every place we stopped, we caught fish.

Spent the weekend at Melvern in one of the cabins in Eisenhower. Lake level is up 1-2 feet  after last week's rains. Water temps ranged from 59 to 61. Water was a little stained up the creeks but clear on the main lake. Had okay but not great numbers but only only one at 18" and one 17". Best places were main lake points. Did not try the dam-- looks like I missed out based on other reports. Caught more fish deeper over the weekend than I have since mid-March. All but a couple of the females still had eggs. Baits ranked in order: Ned, jerkbait, lipless crank, squarebill, tube, and Yum crawbug. Also caught a bunch of whites that looked spawned out, a few nice crappie, a few walters and the normal dink larries and spots. Got chased off early today by that brutal wind.

Well, back to reality after an awesome four days at LOZ. Got in Wednesday evening and pre-fished all day Thursday and Friday. Thursday was...epic. I think by 9am DJ had already caught 4-5 respectable fish. With the conditions how they were then, we targeted mostly the backs of pockets we knew from last year. Came up to one mid-morning in the same cove as the resort we stayed at last year. DJ and I were both throwing beavers on a swing head. Pitched up shallow in the pocket and all of the sudden there was a little weight and my line slowly started moving to the right away from the bank. Swung on her and it was on, first big girl in the net. 6 lbs. 13 oz. 22 1/2" Also my new PB. My first fish of the trip and it's a toad. I was ecstatic and sat back and enjoyed that fish for about an hour.  The rest of the day was steady and knew we had a pattern. We went in around 1:30 for lunch, had some drinks (and by some drinks I mean I was pretty buzzed), and headed back out around 4:30. Fished some newer water in the evening and was still steady. Around 6, DJ hooked up with another pig. 5 lbs. 15 oz. Couldn't believe we saw two fish that caliber the first day. High hopes? I think so.

Fast forward to our second day of pre fishing on Friday. Conditions totally changed. Pressure skyrocketed. Not the day we'd had on Thursday at all. We hoped the pressure would settle a little bit for the tournament on Saturday and Sunday, but boy were we wrong. Fish either moved out or locked up. We couldn't even get half the Spots we saw on beds to eat. Nothing changed for the weekend. Sunday we fished all deep mainlake and secondary points figuring big fish were on the move, but only had dinks on a C rig. Pressure still through the roof, not to mention the immense boat pressure. It was a rough tournament, especially considering I would have been in some serious money with my fish (top 6), and DJ would have been in the money as well. Guys obviously found big fish, but hey that's just how it goes. All I wanted on this trip was a new PB and good times with my buddies, and that's what we got. Can't wait to get back as always.

Yup, it was a good trip for sure. Killed the fish on Thursday and Friday. Saturday was tough and Sunday was down right impossible. I missed the 3.00lb $500 bonus with a 3.01lb spot that I sight fished. Sunday I thought we jacked around and did something special. Dragging a 1 ounce arky jig on the end of a condo dock in 30 foot of water. Bounced off the docks anchoring cable and the road loaded it. Set the hook and the fight was on. Clayton leaped from the front of the boat net in hand and was ready only to see a 3lb channel cat wrapped in someone's fishing line... hooked with half a dozen crappie jigs and a clown rogue. That about sums up the actual tournament. Lol

I feel your pain (kinda).  I snagged a carp flipping docks that doubled my Heavy action rod and for about 3 seconds thought I was going to be in the money.  Also hooked up with a big gar dragging a C-Rig.  That is unbelievable  about the 3.01 though, cant make stuff like that up.

Has anyone been to Mozingo lately?  Any reports?

I know that @Thefrog22 and @Doc-Drew went a week or two ago. They caught some fish but not sure exactly how it went.

I really don't have anything to report from LOZ this past weekend. I sucked, like I always do during a full moon. It was bad enough that I went to DOCO just to try to catch some fish on Monday. Wouldn't you know I'd get there right as the state was getting done shocking the lake. That's pretty much how my luck has been this year. It was still DOCO though so I managed to catch about 30 in 3 hours, they were just mainly deeper, or by the piers where they couldn't shock because of bank anglers.

I wonder what shocking the lake this close to spawn does to the fish? I know shocking them doesn't really harm them much but kinda odd timing. Is that normal?

Went two weeks ago.  Water was low 50's.. 8 or 9 degrees cooler than the KC area.  We managed to catch some but it wasn't a great day.  Especially since my outboard went on the fritz and the wheel bearing broke on the way home.  Will definitely be going back soon though.

Not sure, I saw zero beds or signs of spawning fish though. I looked hoping to see a couple big ones on beds, but I didn'teven see any little ones on beds. Water temp was 64-66. Not a sniff on top water even with all the clouds.

How is the water clarity at Mozingo typically?  Never been there and have a tournament there next weekend.
