Then I hung it from a tree a month ago at LS and Bond was nice enough to donate an extra he had the same day out there, which happened to have a chart head. I dig it. And da fish do too. Little stuff like that is easy to ask for if you want them that way. Could even get crazy and get a red head to match the blood spots 4 hours ago, stinger360 said: Going to table rock this weekend! Staying near shell knob, any thoughts on what to focus on? What about swimbaits, right time of year? ? You're on a good part of the lake as long as the water isn't still really muddy up there. Most of the reports I've been hearing lately have been jigs, swing heads, Neds, and spinnerbaits. Fish should be starting to move into those spawning pockets so I'd start by fishing a few of them from the front to back and see where you start to run into the fish at. Once you figure out how far back you need to go you should be able to hop around from pocket to pocket and pick up fish. Swimbaits are always in style at Table Rock. 15 hours ago, aj88kc said: I am heading to milford at the end of the week for a weekend of catfishing and was thinking the i might try to go for some smallies while I am there. I was hoping that I could get a little help with a location that I might run into a few from the bank. Any help is appreciated. You're going to get snagged a lot but anywhere off the dam and then the state park cove by dam is another area I'd focus on. If you fish the east side of that cove along where the campsite is the snags shouldn't be as bad and I've caught a ton of fish along there. The cove on the other side of the swimming beach in the state park can be really good too. 2 Quote

Since there is a lot of snags would I be better off throwing plastics or do you think I can get away with some shallow diving cranks, or maybe some floating jerkbaits? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 12, 2016 Global Moderator Posted April 12, 2016 Zebra mussels are going to claim some of your baits, so it's up to you to decide which ones you don't mind losing. If you have some inexpensive craw or shad colored shallow to mid depth baits you might try those. If it were me, weightless plastics, drop shot, ned, or grub/keitech on a light jighead. 1 Quote
aj88kc Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I have a lot of plastics and I usually prefer to fish them weightless so that sounds like what I will be going with. I will be definitely throwing the ned and will take some keitechs and some paddle tail flukes. Thanks again for the info. I am going to dedicate most of the day friday to catching some smallies then the rest is going to be all blues. Hopefully I can get into a few and have something other than some sunset pics to post. 1 Quote

When we went to Milford last November, we never had to leave the dam to be on fish the entire time. We probably caught around 80 fish between us that day. And a bonus big Blue Cat. Neds and tubes on the dam. Up and down, rinse and repeat. 2 Quote
aj88kc Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Thanks for the info Brian I will not be to far from the dam so I will definitely be hitting that for the smallies. Can't wait to get out there. Friday can't come soon enough. 1 Quote
ljd1971 Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Tried the lower lake at Jeffrey Energy Center this evening. Once I figured them out, I wore them out on a jerkbait, lipless crank and the ned. Probably caught 75 smallies, 2 wipers, 3 whites and even 2 walters. Not much size though; only two smallmouth were over 16". One wiper that nearly yanked the rod out of my hands was probably 4 lbs but I didn't have time to measure and weigh it because the wind was blowing me onto the rocks. Definitely will return on days when the forecast doesn't call for much wind. Quote

The wipers can be great out there, same with the walleye, just finding bigger ones that can be tough. I use to fish those a lot when we lived in St. George and my grandpa worked there forever until he retired. They're fun little lakes but a long haul for me now. Did you have to do much to check in? Last time they just waved us in. Quote

Last time they just waved us in. I wish. I had to sign in and get a visitor's badge and flag for my truck window. I had to show them my fishing license and leave my DL at the guard booth. When I checked out, I filled out a little fish survey that the guy said would be forwarded to KDWPT. They guard seemed new so it probably took longer than usual even though they weren't busy-- maybe 10-15 minutes each way. The lakes are about 20 minutes closer to me than Melvern but I'll probably still mainly stick to 'Vern for brown fish because the time to get on the water is about the same when you consider check in/out. Not to mention that the scenery and roads/facilities are better at Melvern. Those access roads at Jeffrey are ROUGH. Even though it was getting late, I was compelled to take the boat to the car wash on the way home. That said, last night did wonders for my confidence in jerkbaits. So I will probably fish them every third smallmouth trip or so. Especially when I'm taking someone with me that doesn't fish much. Does anyone know if the lakes get very busy on the weekends? I could see check in becoming a chore if there is a line of boats. . . Quote

BK86bass Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Fished Maxwell refuge on Sunday and WOW what a Zoo that was. Fished out of a buddies small aluminum john boat and fished behind multiple boats for the 4 hours we fished. At one time I counted over 70 people fishing from the bank. Never saw another boat land a fish. I caught 4 fish all being over 15". total weight was just over 13.5# Had a 5.5, 4, 2.25,2. Cant seem to load pictures because size of pictures are too big. Don't know water temps either (buddies boat has no units) Hitting up Kingman state fishing lake tomorrow. Before they dredged that lake I had 25-27# stringer days on my 5 best fish. With the restocking I'm guessing a lot of 2.5# type of fish. First time back to the lake in 2 years. 1 Quote
