Chris S Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Anybody else see this in the Star this morning? http://www.kansascit...ors-digest.html 11 1/2 lbs? Ridiculous. And published with a pic in the paper. And then to read that it was a "pet" at the marina and he kept it. He even got told it was a pet but he kept it any way? He can get a fiber glass replica of the fish made just the same! A friend of mine sent me a link of the new Delaware state record being caught a few weeks a go, the guy had it certified and released her back into the lake! Quote
Chris S Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Ok so lets VOTE on this 11.5 pounder, who thinks its 11.5 pounds? I sure the heck dont. Here is a pick of me with a 7.4 pounder Quote
Chris S Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Where to fish this weekend, where to fish... so many options. Anyone wanna decide for me? Right now it's between mound city, pleasanton, critzer, perry, leavenworth state lake, or maybe even La Cygne. who knows. hahaha I may be heading to Lacygne on Sunday. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted April 27, 2012 Author Super User Posted April 27, 2012 I usually give people the benefit of the doubt when they post pics with weights, but unless he is 7ft tall I would say that is lucky to be a 6 and probably closer to 5 .... and the more and more I look at it I am thinking under 5. What really bothers me the most is that this was published in the paper. It's one thing if this guy comes on an internet message board such as this and says "Hey look at this 11 1/2 lbs bass I caught". I think the majority of us would know this guy is full of it. But this was posted in major city paper, by an Outdoor editor whom I would hope would know that is not an 11 lbs + bass and a few ounces shy of a state record!!!!!! Quote

Here is a pick of me with a 7.4 pounder That pic does not look like a 11.5# fish . However I know that at the end of the day looking back at pics sometimes a 6# looks like it's the same size as a 3# fish. but as far as a 11.5 I haven't ever caught anything near that big but I think it should look bigger than that. Super User Hi Salenity Posted April 27, 2012 Super User Posted April 27, 2012 I may be heading to Lacygne on Sunday. Good luck! I didn't have any luck. Over by the campgrounds the carp were up in the grass rite on the bank, I think you may be able to drop a small piece of worm or corn in front of them and get them to bite. If it's all catch and release there is not much more fun than fighting a big carp! Quote

Here is a pick of a friend of mine from Georgia, this Bass weighed 13lbs. So this guy in paper wants me to think that the Clinton bass weighed 1.5 pounds less than this monster?? Come on man! PS this one was weighed, photo and released! Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 30, 2012 Global Moderator Posted April 30, 2012 Wife and I just got back from a weekend at Melvern. Weather kind of sucked and we had a couple mishaps but still got plenty of fishing in. Nicole wasted no time and caught her new personal best smallmouth and the biggest smallie of the trip less than 20 minutes after getting there. 2lbs 12ozs and 17". I didn't catch anything worth taking a picture of the first day. It poured last night and stormed way harder than I wish it would have since we were tent camping. I went out by myself in the morning since it was still raining and started slow but the quality went up for me. I spent a lot of time trying to fish slow and was getting frustrated with the lake of activity. I picked up a spinnerbait and it was quickly obvious I was on to something, they were smashing the spinnerbait. After tearing them up on spinnerbaits for a little bit the rain stopped, the wind died down, and the sun even came out for a little bit so I picked Nicole up and we went back out for a couple hours. I caught several more on spinnerbaits and shakeyheads and she caught a couple smallmouth and a nice crappie on a little H2O crank. Unfortunately on the way home my truck started to shake really badly so we pulled over. When I got by the front passenger tire I could feel the heat coming off of it and the roater was superheated. Had to have the truck towed to the shop and my parents came and picked us up and pulled the boat home, not how I wanted to end my birthday weekend Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted April 30, 2012 Super User Posted April 30, 2012 Happy Birthday, It's cool your wife goes fishing with you! Quote
kylek Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 What are the best areas to fish Melvern? My father in law and I would love to get a few smallies on the board this year. It is almost a 2 hour drive from our place. Where would be the best best... Melvern or Coffey County? I have only caught 2 at CC and never have fished Melvern. Thanks for any help on this. Kyle Quote

I like Melvern way more than Coffey for smallmouth, the smallmouth at Coffey are always so hard to find. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 1, 2012 Global Moderator Posted May 1, 2012 Went to Miami today with my friend and CCC Drew from the board. We knocked them around all day, catching fish on poppers, frogs, jigs, swimbaits, squarebills, worms, shakeyheads, traps, spooks, chatterbaits, and senkos. I was hoping to make it to 1,000 by my birthday yesterday but fell 83 short. I made up for that today, catching exactly 83 bass to make it to the 1,000 mark before May. Only 2 over 18", one on a swimbait and one on a senko, the swimbait fish was probably around 4lbs and 19". Had one eat a crankbait as far as I've ever seen one. Number 1,000, last fish of the day on a crankbait from under the dock by the ramp. Here's the swimbait I caught a lot of them on today. Quote

bassinKS Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 I was out at Miami Saturday and ended up with close to 60 fish between my buddy and I, we also headed out there today and we didnt do so hot but it still beat doing anything else. On Saturday we went through 2 bags of super flukes 1 bag of Rage Anacondas and 2 bags of senkos when they hit they were hitting hard we also caught some on rage toads and some on buzzbaits. Quote
retro basser Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Geez sounds like Miami is awesome. I want some easy topwater action like that. I'm still looking for that two day window that's just right to get down and camp there. It's just a little far for a day-tripper from over here, good for you OP guys sounds like. Fortunately I am pretty close to Perry, been getting up there a bit. Seems like i figure out a little more of the puzzle each time i get out there. After these rains it's just beyond muddy out there though. Seems like you really gotta hit em over the head with a lure for them to see it lol. The crappie were really turning on there yesterday. The whites are always good too, seems like they get born weighing a pound and go up from there... Quote
pbrussell Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Retro, I've been trying to figure out the perry puzzle myself. What have you been noticing? Where have you been fishing? So far, I've fished most of the lake's creeks (rock creek, slough creek, little slough creek), but haven't fished much of the main body. Still trying to figure out the puzzle myself, that's for sure. Quote
retro basser Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Well mostly I noticed that you better know where your fishing and make your casts count because while there are alot of spots to fish, they're just far enough away from each other that you wanna fire up the big engine to get to them usually. I'm usually picking apart where the channel swings by shore and the few pieces of underwater structure are gold cause it's mostly just a mudflat everywhere else. The water is insanely muddy (my gf just did a study for her chem class on a few of the different water bodies and the 'turbidity' or muddiness on Perry is off the charts.) I find dark lures or really strong bright lures either in flash or chartruse work well. I'm going to try a smoke tube texas rigged with a bead thrown in there tomm for a little noise. I'd say pick your spots very carefully, be careful to work them well and slow without spoiling them. Also on the presentation to the rocks try to get really close to the shoreline, with a good quiet entry, especially on a calm day (I'm talking under 6'' from shore) You dont get very many 'dinks' to tell you if you're doing things right so you have to be on your game with each presentation. Easier said than done if your like me and still have a few 'what the F*** were you thinking throwing there?' moments throughout the day. Just takes time eliminating bad water, but the fish are there. Quote
pbrussell Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Good information to have. I've fished the channel banks with little to no luck, but have had decent luck around rock- especially man made rock areas. I hope to go again soon and put some more pieces together. Perry is kind of becoming an obsession of mine, even though I've not had great successes there as of yet. They're coming... Speaking of success, last saturday I went out to mound city and wacked em pretty good. Caught more than twenty. Everything I caught was pretty much on a squarebill. Had 8 fish come unbuttoned, and one of them would've at least been high fours. Probably easily would've gone five, maybe even six, but you never know. Bigger fish are certainly in there. Most of my fish were 12-14 inches, but I caught these nice ones. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 2, 2012 Global Moderator Posted May 2, 2012 Fished Cedar Lake for about 2 hours before work today. It was a little rough with all the wind in my little jon boat but I managed 6 fish from 8 inches to 16.5 inches. 2 on a Havoc Pit Boss, 2 on a homemade chatterbait, and 2 on a H2O squarebill. Pit Boss caught the 2 biggest, squarebill caught the 2 smallest, chatterbait caught the two middlest Quote
ks cranker Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 The water is insanely muddy . Hate to hear that it's that muddy. Is the main lake that way or just the creek arms? Planning on going to Perry for the first time on Saturday. Quote
retro basser Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Welp, Smoke colored Yamamoto tubes work at Perry Quote

Never know when you need to put some middlests in the well. hehe. I've been trying to get a good topwater bite going when i'm out early enough. Had some luck on trick worms and a mini-buzz bait but the bigger noisemakers arent getting any action. Maybe in summer. Maybe I dont have the patience to stick with it long enough. Hate to hear that it's that muddy. Is the main lake that way or just the creek arms? Planning on going to Perry for the first time on Saturday. Well not gonna lie, it's all murky. I can put on the brightest neon lure i have and it's invisible even with polarized lenses after it gets just about a foot deep. The main lake is a little better than the channels, back in them I actually get a 'floating bottom' on the sonar from it hitting a layer of silt say at 3 feet where the real bottom you are fishing is 6 feet. It's way stronger than a thermocline. Good news is the bass don't seem to mind Quote
