I'm just surprised someone caught a fish out of that lake. It's rated excellent or good every year for largemouth. I've fished it a few times and it's been horrible every time. I fished it one morning last year for 3 hours and caught maybe 6 fish, none bigger than 2 pounds, and I was working hard for them.

Hey guys, my friend and I are planning on taking his camper for a fishing trip in the next couple of weeks. I was wondering if you might be able to offer some recommendations on a good lake or fishing resort that isn't to far away from Kansas City area that might offer some good bank fishing and or offer fishing boat rentals as another option. We prefer to fish for largemouth bass but as long as we can catch fish we aren't to picky.  According to the KS fishing atlas Butler county lake is listed as one the most stocked for largemouth bass. Thanks in advance.

Yeah it's been good for me.  I've never fished a jerkbait much until this year.

The fishing forecast makes it sound like a big numbers lake but I usually only catch one or two from a couple different spots off the bank.  3 1/2 lbs is the biggest I've got out there.  Did catch a 4 lb saugeye last year though.:)

Went to Shawnee State Fishing Lake after work. Water temp. ranged from 50 to 53. About an hour in, I only had a few dinks on the Ned. Then I tried one of the jettys that had a little clearer and deeper water around it and it was like flipping a switch. I caught a bunch on a BPS XPS jerkbait on one pass and then turned around and caught a bunch on the Ned the next pass. I tried some other spots to let that one rest and caught a few, including the biggest of the evening, a 16.5 incher that hit while I let the jerkbait sit mid-cast while I adjusted my depthfinder. I then went back to my good spot and caught a bunch more. I probably ended up with 40-50 fish, but only 3 went over 15 inches.

Got out on the Niangua last week.  We had a great trip, floated 17 miles over two days and saw only one other human being on the river.  We had some slow stretches but we were into fish for most of the trip.  Biggest fish was 2.26, most of what we caught were between 1 and 2lbs.  Smallmouth made up 95% of what we caught, spots and trout made up the other 5%. I would estimate that the four of us caught about 150 fish. Water temp was between 52 and 55, clear as always.  Most fish were caught on jerkbaits, the ned rig fooled some fish too.  56ecb86580713_NRSmallie.jpg.b5d7b3a96b9d

Had a short run to Olathe after my unwanted OT that ran into my weekend a until noon. Water was clearer than I expected and ranged from 53 at the dam to 56 in the pond. Caught fish everywhere in between but never in big numbers. The average size was pretty good though with my largest flirting with touching the 18" mark on a finesse jig. Didn't bother saving much of the video but put together a couple clips for anyone thinking of going out there.

I fished Melvern with kickerfish1 and his friend from Omaha Friday. Windy, rain, driving snow, sleet, and the fish just kept on biting. We caught them on most everything as long as we were fishing a white jerkbait. I did catch a couple on a Luck E Strike G5 and the Ned and I believe there was a fish caught on a Keitech as well as a few on a Fluke. All 3 species of bass made the boat with 2 Bass Slams caught. The number of nice spots was the biggest shocker. My biggest was 17" and we had 6 or 7 over 15" and super fat. The marina was good and so was Eisenhower. The further down the lake we went the colder and muddier it got. We had 50 in the marina, 49 at the ramp, 47 down by Turkey with a couple feet of visibility. Worked through a lot of adversity, and those guys stuck it out longer than I thought they would in that junk, and we were rewarded with over 50 fish on the day. Very good chance I'll be back there Friday. That smallmouth jerkbait bite is a drug and I'm addicted. Several big whites and one tank of a sauger off the ramp right before we left too. You can really see how hard it snowed in the picture of kickerfish1 with his smallmouth.

Fished Melvern yesterday with Keith. Rough and windy start, but had a few fish on a jerkbait right off the bat. Winds laid down around 1 and we were still catching fish. Caught probably 15 big whites too. Zero Drum. Slim profile baits were the ticket for us-110s, Raps, and DT6. Caught a few dragging a tube and the Ned for a little bit too. Water temps 48-49 all day and never broke 50. Creek arms seemed to make up our pattern, we didn't have any fish caught on my mainlake spots with the exception of a few on the dam right from the get go.

2/3 of my Melvern slam from yesterday. Forgot to take a pic of the 2 1/2 pound LM I caught. Caught a lot of fish on a jerkbait, but the big fish was the one and only that came on ned.

After these fish I didn't pay any more attention to my GoPro for the rest of the day. Before the wind laid down it was mighty rough everywhere we fished. Before anyone asks, the "DT6 in his face" reference stems from Ike during the Classic (if anyone was watching live). He said it about 8 times in a row.

I'm such a goofball in the mornings. Singing songs about plenty o bait and practicing my Minnesota accent. I must be a real delight in the boat ?

Our trips wouldn't be the same without an In-Fisherman Critical Concepts intro though!

Unlike the others, neither the jerbait nor the crankbait worked for me and the daughter Sunday morning. We managed a dozen smallies ranging from 13" to 16" on the Ned in green pumpkin and watermelon seed.  All but three came from two 20-30 yard spots on two secondary points. Also caught ten white bass and two big drum. The whites were grouped up in 4-5 FOW and liked the small BPS speed shad. We probably should have caught more of them based on the action on the depthfinder. It was a wierd day; we had a few periods of fairly fast action separated by periods of nothing.IMG-0532.JPGIMG-0522.JPGIMG-0529.JPG

First day of Spring Big Head Wobbler Fish

20160320_083218_resized1_zps6xrmnbd5.jpg

Went to Wolf because I wanted to get one on a Deps 175, but the wind wouldn't allow it.  The fish really liked a big head wobbler. Unfortunately my streak of not catching drum ended.

Yeah, it was a little colder than she expected so it was all hands, er coats and gloves, on deck. Of course, that raises the question of why on earth would she just happen to have a faux fur coat stored in her back seat? In mid-March.

Here's a tip for all you young parents: some questions are best left unanswered.

Hello all! Yesterday I got me a new HDS7 touch for the boat and I already had a HDS 7 with structure scan on it and moving the non-touch up to my trolling motor. But my new touch came with a HDI transducer and was wondering if anybody on here needed one?

I have a feeling the majority of us have gone Garmin already. I still have an Elite 7 HDI up front, but I already have a ducer.
