Caught my first ever ned fish. I ended up catching 16 off of the ned today. 1 on a hard body swim bait and one off of a brush hog. Pic of my first ned fish. Good stuff AJ! - I pulled in my first fish on the Ned over the winter and have not set it down since... where were you fishing? Quote
RangerDanger Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 I have a new ned rig retrieve for you guys. All you have to do is get it ready for a follow up bait, let it hang 4 to 6 inches in the water off the side of the boat, lay the rod down, and go back to fishing. Just make sure you grab your rod when it goes screaming across the deck. 3 Quote

Min was off the back deck by the motor in the water at most 2" and a smallie just about tore off with it. That was when I use to fish the ned on the green machine, so it wouldn't have upset me too much to see it go. The rig I have for it now though... I'd probably go swimming. 1 Quote

Drop the Ned to the bottom and crank it up a couple times, then lay the rod down and fish something else. Some of the biggest crappie I've seen from Melvern ate a Ned fished like that. 4 Quote
ljd1971 Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Took the afternoon off and spent it at Melvern. Water temps ranged from 49 at the Arrow Rock campground cove to 61 in a NE-facing pocket in Turkey Creek late in the day. Mostly 51-55, though. Only caught 4 brown fish; none over 2 lbs. 3 came on the Ned and one on a one-knocker. Caught probably a dozen larries on a jerkbait and the Ned. One 16" sauger and the obligatory whites and drum rounded out the day. Pretty slow but it sure beat work. Quote
Molay1292 Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 How's the water looking on the East end of the lake? (Clarity) 56 minutes ago, ljd1971 said: Took the afternoon off and spent it at Melvern. I fish my Neds and other light baits on a Fish Eagle 50 6' ML with 8lb fluoro leader. I'm Looking to Head south for smallies very, very soon. Quote

(Clarity) East end is about as clear as I've seen it over the past year except on the shores where the south wind riled up the shallows. Heading west, the water starts getting stained at Turkey Creek. I have not ventured west of the Turkey Creek boat ramp yet this year. 1 Quote

redbirdsfan44 Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 I'm looking to get into a buddy bass platform tournament trail as a co-angler on either side of the river. I work at Rogers sporting goods in liberty and I have a lot of experience fishing and have fished a couple tournaments just not a ton of tourny experience Quote

A Google search should land you with several different clubs. Check the rules, format and schedule for the one that works best for you. Quote

Some of them even draw for boaters/co anglers Quote
aj88kc Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Went to mize today for about 4 hours. Ended up with three bass and one crappie. All of the bass was caught on a bps speed shad and the crappie was caught on the ole ned. This was the biggest of the day. 2 Quote

Raymond has a pulse on when all the tourneys are and the local clubs. You might just go chat with him some afternoon. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 16, 2016 Global Moderator Posted March 16, 2016 I fished Gardner for a couple hours after work yesterday. Mainly wanted to make sure the boat was in working order again (seems to be fine), but also had a new Curado 70XG to test out. I know I was fishing too fast because I started on the rounded point on the west side of the lake by the dam and had made it almost to the south end of the lake in 45 minutes. I'd only caught a couple super dinks on a jerkbait and missed a couple good bites so I made myself slow down and let my jerkbait sit for about 5 seconds. Crazy what a few seconds difference can make. I started catching them pretty fast after that and missed a few more. Got to catch one on the new Curado on a new finesse jig I just started tying so that was a double whammy. Pretty sure I had a nice saugeye hooked on my jerkbait for a few seconds. Fish really whacked it and was giving me slow, heavy headshakes and staying down until it just let go. No rolling or slime on the line so unless it was just a big bass that wasn't coming up, that's the only other thing I could think of. 4 Quote

Water was as clear as I can remember seeing it out there in a long time. I could see the bottom off the front of the boat dock. Water was 56 something at the dam, 53 something at the south end. Shad flipping pretty much constant in the lower half of the lake and some whites chasing them at couple different times. The slime is pretty bad again, but not quite as bad yet as it was during our first tournament out there last year. 1 Quote
DodgeRamWax Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Took the boat out to Tongie last night to run around a little since I adjusted the jack plate. We fished a couple hours and caught a dozen or so. Nothing of size to brag about. Water was 56 most of the lake. 1 Quote
mundell88 Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Fished the North lake in Garnett for about an hour today from the bank. I started out fishing a wiggle wart and didnt get a bite in 30 minutes. Switched to a jerkbait and started catching them on the exact same casts that they were ignoring the crankbait. Caught 3 in about 30 minutes and had a good one come off before i got a look at it. They all looked fat and healthy. 2 Quote
