SuperFluke Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Wolf creek mostly sucked yesterday. Â I did get there early and was the first boat on the water by about 10 minutes. Â That 10 minutes was enough time for me to get the first pass at most of the rip rap in the outlet. Â The first time through I landed a 3-0 and a 3-4 smallmouth on a BHW in crappie color. Â Those were a couple of really fun fights, and I was lucky to have had the net handy for the first one. Â After that, I caught two more smallmouth and one more largemouth. Â That was it... Â I got bit on the south end a few times. Â The water was so clear I saw two fish hit my jerkbait in about 6' of water. Â Both didn't hook up. Â Broke one off on a tube. Â 12 trailers in the lot when I left at 1 p.m. on Wednesday! Â On a bad note, my trailer tires started wearing real bad this year, so I got the trailer looked at by Croft. Â Verdict came back as a bent axle. Â $771 down the drain... Quote

Super User gardnerjigman Posted December 10, 2015 Super User Posted December 10, 2015 Definitely getting in on this. Just let me know. Taking pre orders now for a troop quantity. Cookies come in first of feb. Quote
Ondrejka Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 I had to jump on the Wolf Creek train. The forecasted all-weekend rain forced me to take the day off and get out. I was the second boat in this morning at 7:45. When I got to the outlet, I had it all to myself. First five minutes I hook up with a big brown fish a Wobbler. Not long after, I switched to a tube and got bit on my first cast. This one broke 3#. When I got to the buoys I switched again to a beaver on a C&C swing head and found a big LMB counting rocks deep, 3 lbs. 4. oz. I turned around and saw Clayton coming around the point at the outlet. I switched over to the mud and started in a pocket that I've always caught fish on. First pass in that pocket and I hooked up with another good LMB on a Wobbler again. This was all within the first hour. From there I bounced around and made a run down the riprap on the south end. To Cole's point, yeah...it was SUPER clear. Like, 10' vis clear. Fished a few different areas and picked up random Smallies here and there on a squarebill, just covering water (granted I didn't have a choice with the wind). No jerkbait bite on the cool water side, I was sad  So all in all, Wobbler, tube, Ned, swinghead, squarebill. The wind sucked and I wasn't getting bit anymore so I bailed around 1:30. I probably ended up with close to 15 fish, but the quality was awesome. My best five almost touched 14 lbs. between three Smallies and two LMBs. Should have a GoPro video up tomorrow.      3 Quote
ljd1971 Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Took the afternoon off and decided to try to catch one of those big Lake Shawnee smallmouths. First time fishing the lake. The water was clear and 45-47 degrees. I caught a couple dink larries and accidentally caught two beautiful rainbows that measured 20" about five minutes apart. All on the Ned.  I didn't catch any on a jerkbait but noticed I was getting some followers. I tried every color I had and as well as different cadences but could not get them to take it. I wonder if I had some smaller jerkbaits I might have gotten them to commit.  Is it just me or has the lipless crankbait been a non-factor this fall for everyone? It's been awhile since I've caught anything on a trap. Quote
Ondrejka Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 All on the Ned.  I think it's time for your Ned intervention.  Is it just me or has the lipless crankbait been a non-factor this fall for everyone? It's been awhile since I've caught anything on a trap.  I own a total of 3 lipless cranks I like and have yet to tie one on this year. Zero confidence. I have a bunch of Traps but I only really throw them during the Walleye spawn-I keep them stocked with all intentions of losing them in the rocks. Quote

It's been awhile since I've caught anything on a trap. I had some pretty good days on a trap this fall at Melvern for both smallies and whites. I've also caught a decent number the last two times at Wolf until this past Thursday when I only caught 1 largemouth on a Warpig.   On a side note, if anyone hasn't checked out the new line up of Berkley hardbaits, I'd highly suggest it! The Skinny Cutter 110, Wild Thang, Warpig, and Pitbull have all been doing work for me already in the past 2 weeks, the Skinny Cutter and Wild Thang especially. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 12, 2015 Global Moderator Posted December 12, 2015 My adventures from this past week. Lonestar was colder and more stained than I expected, but I still fooled a few with a clown Buzz's Baits 110 or a Duo 110. No big ones but average size was a little better than normal.  Wolf on Thursday was tough. We caught almost 30, but the average size was down again and man were we working for them. There's probably a ditch dug through the east point by the cable from our cranks and Rocker heads. Never caught them fast but one every 10-20 minutes it seemed. I kept getting slammed by fish that would never hold onto it. Austin caught a 7lb blue and I have a feeling that they were what was mashing and dropping my bait. Most of those fish were spread out enough the videos were too long to bother uploading. I got 3 nice largemouth in the trees in the 30 minutes we fished them but of course I'd forgotten to turn the Virb on for the first and biggest one.  Douglas County on Friday was very, Douglasy. I caught a bunch of fat, healthy looking dinks (if that makes any sense?) Jerkbait on the piers was killing them. It was pretty fun really catching that many in cold water that fast.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLG96-IQoY8 1 Quote

Sprocket Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Went to Cedar Creek yesterday for 2 hours. Just messing with the Garmin QuickDraw for the most part. Was kind of shocked when I caught a 19" chunk on a jig n pig. Then ended up with 4 more between 17 and 19" slow rolling a spinner bait. Water was 47 to 48*.  SE Kansas grass grower 2 Quote

Super User gardnerjigman Posted December 14, 2015 Super User Posted December 14, 2015 Are they good reels? Or just good for the price point? These should be $100 reels. You won't find a better reel for spinnerbaits, wobblers and top water than these. Will definitely be picking up a FEW. 2 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 14, 2015 Global Moderator Posted December 14, 2015 Are they good reels? Or just good for the price point? I have 4 and they're all going strong. They have metal gears instead of plastic like most cheap reels. They cast a mile too. 1 Quote
