Where's everyone fishing tomorrow???

Got a two piece guide trip at 'vern Saturday and Sunday, but I think I might go to Wolf or CV afterwards one of the two days.

I think I may take the weekend off from the Vern as I'm getting discouraged. My Wednesday trip down there was underwhelming. Of course, by the time I started to figure out the bite, I had to leave to make it back to work for a meeting. It sucks when you have to leave right after catching your best two fish. What fish I caught came on a square bill, 3.5" tube, and a 4" Chompers grub.

I may try Nebo; I haven't been there in awhile. Maybe Jeffrey Energy Center, too. Anybody ever been there? I haven't tried either lake out there yet.

I fished Jeffrey a lot growing up. It's fun if you're wanting wipers and whites and dink smallies. You have to check in and they only let so many people on the water, so that kind of sucks. Never fished Nebo in the fall but I'd do it if it were an option.

Wolf was a good time last Thursday and you don't have to worry about turnover like Melvern seems to be going through this past weekend.

WIFI at home is sucking but I did manage to get the best explosion I had all day at Wolf with the Plopper on video. As vicious as it is in the video, it was much more so in person.

Fished LOZ this past thursday and friday. There was a bfl going on not too far from us so there were quite a few boats out. Fished between mouth of Gravois and 11mm, water was consistently around 70 degrees. The fish were scattered, the shad weren't back in the creeks too well yet. I caught fish on spooks, buzz baits, jigs, and a few on bluebasser's big head wobbler. No real big fish but quite a few small keeper sized fish. Overall a pretty fun trip!

Didn't you fish the bash? How did you do? How did the kicker shad big head wobbler treat you?

No, I didn't fish the bash. I liked the big head wobbler and its erratic action. Caught all the big head wobbler fish on the fronts of docks, but all the buzz bait hits (had lots of blow ups without hook ups) came behind docks over the cables.

It's that time of year when I head down I35 and have to wrestle with the decision to go north or south on 75. Thursday I went south and glad I did.

Looking for a backseater again Thursday. Not really set on anywhere yet, but the light winds they're forecasting right now thinking either Wolf or La Cygne. I could easily be convinced to go somewhere else though.

Saturday's and Sunday's guide trips at Melvern were both a grind, but good fish were still caught. On Saturday we absolutely just could not keep the white bass away. More white bass than I've ever caught at Melvern. Obviously the clients don't mind because they are so stout and fun to catch, but we did manage to weed through them and find decent brown fish. Had KS Bass Buddy's launching out of Eisenhower on Saturday morning, and the EKB guys from the corps ramp both days. Yesterday I had to giggle because at one point I counted 12 boats (more than likely all EKB) on the dam.  We did make one very short dam trip, but fished deeper. 10-12 foot range, dragging tubes, dropping directly to fish seen on downvu. That's where I found my decent fish late yesterday. Had another good one on Saturday...on a JERKBAIT! But that was the only one, and wow was it an aggressive strike. Saturday was pretty much all moving baits, had maybe two fish on the Ned and one on a tube. The guys enjoyed fishing swimbaits and sqaurebills. Sunday my client couldn't put down a 1.0 and neither could the fish. The lake seems to somewhat still be turning over a little bit, which besides the added pressure, probably had something to do with the tough(er) than normal fishing. Water temps shifted between 60-63. All in all a good weekend with happy clients as always. Hoping next weekend won't be too much of a grind.

Conor and I hit up Wolf Creek on Saturday to see if we could follow in Clayton's footsteps. We came across some fish. Actually had to anchor because I couldn't hold the boat very well. Below are a few of he pictures.

And then there was this guy who decided a belly full of food and an 8" white bass wasn't enough. It had to try to eat Conor's 4" swimbait as well

We did not get to Gardner Saturday, but did make it out to LS on Sunday afternoon.  Only fished about 4 hours.   Boated about 20 fish, nothing over 2 pounds or so.  Most fish came on a BHW with several also on a wart.

Saturday's and Sunday's guide trips at Melvern were both a grind, but good fish were still caught.

Earlier this week I said I was going to stay away from Melvern altogether this weekend but I what can I say? I have a problem. But my resolve was strong Saturday and I only went to Shawnee SFL for a few hours in the evening. I caught a couple dinks and one going about 4#. Other than a few half-hearted blow ups on a frog in the pads, it was a slow day.

I relapsed and went to Melvern Sunday morning, barely beating Brian to the ramp. i agree; Sunday was a grind. The daybreak bite is getting so short and I spent most of that precious time catching whites. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to catch anything. When the bite started back up at 10:30 or so, I caught a few decent smallies on a tube and a 4" grub. Unlike Brian, the squarebill wasn't working for me at all Sunday, except for white bass. Right before I left at 12:30, I had a little 15 minute run where I caught 6 very aggressive but small spotted bass in two little areas about 50 yards apart. I thought every one was twice the size it turned out being.

Got back home to catch the end of the Chiefs game and the wife thought it was a nice day to go to Perry and take some bird pictures. Cool, the boat's still hooked up, let's go. I was able to fish for maybe an hour between motoring around looking for eagles, osprey, pelicans, egrets, herons and the like. I caught a few smaller smallies on the tube and one that went around 14" that absolutely destroyed one of those Storm pre-rigged 3" paddle tails at dusk. This fish had been blowing up shad every couple of minutes but I couldn't get her to hit a spook, pop-R, or torpedo. I put down the topwater rod and threw the tube-- nothing. I got frustrated and grabbed a spinning rod and started burning the paddle tail back to the boat. Good thing I had a good grip on the rod.

I'm a STRONG maybe. Tins and I have a LOZ tournament the weekend before. Will have to "wade the waters" with the wife before I fully commit. I'm usually in the dog house... so don't be surprised if Adam and I roll up! lol

Hillsdale without question. The place is giving up nice fish finally.

I didn't see a report, how'd you do at Hillsdale?

I've still never been on that lake. Curt... I feel a lacygne trip soon? Ready to blow the dust off your equipment?

I fished it from the yak for 2 hours a couple weeks ago and caught 4 and missed 3 more. One I missed looked like a pretty nice fish. I was also on part of the lake I've never fished because of how hard it is to get to in a boat.

The masses have gone quiet...

Anyone fishing this weekend? Looks like I'll be starting off tomorrow morning with clients in the rain at Melvern. Sunday as well, but much nicer weather. Next weekend I'm helping out at a Heroes on the Water benefit tournament at Milford, which I donated a guide trip to for their silent auction. I'll just be fun fishing during tournament hours, but looking forward to it. Never fished Milford before but obviously hear great things. Then next Sunday I'll be back at Clinton for a change of pace-drove out to the marina yesterday and judging by the nice water clarity, it may have already turned over.

I have the weekend of the 14-15th open, but think I may use that weekend to take my dad out and fun fish somewhere (he'll probably choose Melvern). I have Veteran's Day off work, so I'm gonna take a vet buddy of mine out there for the day as well.

If anyone decides to run to 'Vern this weekend, come by and say hey. Sunday looks pretty nice.
