awohlwend Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Made my first trip to Cedar Valley with Micah yesterday. That is one awesome looking lake. We made it to the ramp about 30 minutes before sunrise. No fish caught on a topwater to start the day. Maybe because we both had to use the bathroom at the ramp before we put in... Bounced all over the lake from first cast until the end of the day and it was TOUGH. I was pretty discouraged. We didn't catch many numbers and even less for size until the very end of the day. In the last hour or so I caught my biggest bass of the year at 5lb 3oz and not long after Micah caught his biggest bass of the year at 4lb 12 oz. All of the fish we caught came on 3 baits. Big Head Wobbler, jig and a few on a shaky head so no surprises there. Finished the day with our best 5 going around 14lbs. As tough as it was I'm pretty excited to go back as the fall progresses. Pictures had to be colored out on account of the fish off we have coming up and the super secret spots we caught the big ones in.   2 Quote

RangerDanger Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 I was planning on going to Melvern on Thursday when an opportunity to with Bluebasser came up so I called an audible, he reported above on that day. All I can add is that 5 15 felt like it had been eating concrete and he was ready to go back to the ned rig.  I had family coming into town this weekend so I didn't really plan anything for this weekend, but did sneak out to Melvern for a half day. Decided to only throw big fish baits that produce violent strikes in lieu of the quantity baits. Had 10 on the pompadour and 2 on the BS and claimed my boat record back from Chris S. on a pompadour. Had to bend the tabs back on the wings twice to get them back in their original position. I knew I couldn't report just catching a dozen fish so I picked up the tube to get the numbers up in the last 45 minutes and caught another 15. front hook in the mouth back hook in the body always  Just when I didn't think the BS was going to produce  This one looks like he ate a BS previously Quote

Super User gardnerjigman Posted September 28, 2015 Super User Posted September 28, 2015 Good looking fish Adam. Have your tried the JR pomp yet? Quote
Ondrejka Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Had a group of guys from Jopin who have a little fishing show on KSN contact me for a Melvern trip to do a show. Launched at 6:30 (thankfully before the Topeka Bassmasters did). Fished until 2pm. Awful, high bluebird skies and not a stitch of wind. Did still find a few wolfpacks chasing shad on a few of my spots, which is where my swimbait fish came from. Otherwise it was all a tube and the Ned (which those guys had never heard of). They are firm believers now. Not ideal, but the conditions called for it, so we gave it to them, and the guys had a great time with it. Caught probably 50 fish between the 3 of us, best five going 12 lbs. Biggest just over 3#. Pretty good considering the conditions. Good group of guys to work with and had a fun day, they were loving it. Will be there tomorrow with Conor, and I have back to back guide trips Saturday and Sunday.    1 Quote
Ondrejka Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 PS: Was it Adam W. or Adam K. that talked to my dad at the Eisenhower ramp on Saturday morning? He thought that was really cool. Quote

It was me. I knew it was him, you just don't see very many dodge magnums with a big G on the back. 1 Quote

PA2KS Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Lurker here turned member, I've been fishing Melvern just as much as Ondrejka and plan too every weekend through October. Â Fished it this Saturday and did well but the fish were not in their normal numbers or spots and left semi disappointed. Â Lately it's been hot from 11-1 and man did I struggle to get a bite then, still a beautiful day with only 3 fish over 15". Â Anyone catching Smallies in Perry? Â Quote
Ondrejka Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Anyone catching Smallies in Perry? Â Â Can't say any of us have seen a brown fish from Perry besides Clayton in a good long while. Quote

Bassboy98 Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Has anyone thrown any glide baits at La Cygne and had any luck on them? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 29, 2015 Global Moderator Posted September 29, 2015   Anyone catching Smallies in Perry?  I haven't fished Perry this year but had one nearly 4 pounds out there last year. The crappie guys are catching them very regularly though, some big ones too.  Has anyone thrown any glide baits at La Cygne and had any luck on them? I had some success on one early this year and lost a real big one on it too. Quote

PA2KS Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Thanks and nice fish. Â Sounds like i'll be substituting Melvern with a Perry trip and see for my self how illusive they are up there. Â If they are not biting I can always catch Lonestar or Clinton on the way home. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 30, 2015 Global Moderator Posted September 30, 2015 Gardner has been good the last 2 mornings. Only gone out there because I wanted to try out the new kayak, the added good fishing is a nice bonus though. I launched in the creek at the south end yesterday morning and caught 15-20 in 1.5 hours, all on a Code Blue BHW or Zman Palmetto Bug. Quote
Ondrejka Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Took the day off work yesterday w/ Conor to get one last fun fishing day in @ Melvern before the entire month of October is booked with guide trips there. I also had a 3:30 trip at Clinton so taking off worked nicely.  It was a big tougher than it has been yesterday, as we didn't find many bigger fish like I have lately. Numbers were even tough up until about 11am when it really started to turn on. Within the first 15 minutes around 6:45 we were both doubled up a few times on topwater. After the morning lull, we caught fish on swimbaits and tubes. Conor had one over 3# at the boat and went to swing it in before I could get there with the net.......you can guess what happened next  Back out Saturday and Sunday for back to back guide trips.      1 Quote
