mundell88 Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I live five minutes from the lake and would like to fish with you guys at the fish off, if that would be alright. I have a trolling motor powered flatbottom so I would likely just be beating the bank near the boat ramp 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 1, 2015 Global Moderator Posted August 1, 2015 Been slipping pretty bad on posting reports on here lately I guess. I night fished Cedar Valley Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Fishing sucked, 6 bass all night along with about 3 dozen channel cats and half a dozen each sunfish and drum and 1 big crappie. It's amazing how one fish can make a trip worth it though, 5lb 9oz at 2:30 in the morning. 3 Quote
bassbassontherange Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Were you catching some of those cats on lures while targeting bass? That's a nice haul... Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 3, 2015 Global Moderator Posted August 3, 2015 Were you catching some of those cats on lures while targeting bass? That's a nice haul... All of the fish I listed were on lures. The catfish were mostly on my homemade bladed jigs. 1 Quote
Ondrejka Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Slipping is right. I've been so deep into moving I haven't even been able to get the boat wet more than once or twice the past two weeks. Did go to Lone Star with DJ on Sunday morning, but we didn't have a stitch of wind and it was 95 degrees by 10am. Caught the usual suspects but nothing worth bragging about. Will be all moved in on Wednesday in the new house, and will see everyone on Thursday. 2 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 7, 2015 Global Moderator Posted August 7, 2015 Coty and I fished Melvern yesterday from about 5am until 3pm. We caught fish from the time the boat touched the water (Coty actually caught one off the ramp before the boat was in the water), until the time we took it out of the water. Best places was any flat bank with bigger rock and wind blowing into it. A Strike King 1.0 type crankbait was great, had a bunch on a tube, some on a Ned, spook jr, should have had several on a Bull Shad but only landed a couple of them. Biggest fish of the day was my 3lb 2oz 18" smallie. We both had a bass slam plus we had 8 walleye, a white, several drum, and a bunch of sunfish. Great day on the water with over 100 fish caught for sure. 3 Quote
KSadler Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Well, that's all I need to hear to clock out early. That sounds like an incredible day of fishing, well done. Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted August 7, 2015 Super User Posted August 7, 2015 Was a great day at Melvern! Quote
DodgeRamWax Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 nicely done guys! I had to untarp my boat on Wednesday just to remember what it looked like. Been so dang busy this past month with work I haven't been out at all! Quote
RangerDanger Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Could have slipped on that report for a couple of days or claimed it was Hillsdale. Ha 2 Quote
awohlwend Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Micah and I took a trip to Melvern today since Micah now has a boat that can handle the bigger water. Got stormed on all the way there and had 15 -20 mph winds most of the day on the lake. Caught around 20 smallies (biggest around 2lbs) and lost about as many throughout the day. We each caught 1 largemouth, mulitple drum (one big one), Micah caught a walleye/sauger not sure which since neither of us are experts on those, and Micah also caught several whipers. All fish were caught on squarebiils. All in all a good day.You weren't catching fish if you weren't in the wind which made it a bit tough. Solid first experience at Melvern though. And I caught myself...... Took a pair of pliers and some motivation from Micah to yank the KVD 2.5 out of my own arm, which brought are day to close as you can tell there was a fair amount of blood that came with. 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 9, 2015 Global Moderator Posted August 9, 2015 Sucks about the hook in the arm but at least you got some fish. My first trip ever to Melvern I caught 1 8" smallmouth so you did better than me. No wipers in Melvern though, just huge white bass. 3 Quote
awohlwend Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 White bass* clearly not an expert on those either ha. Biggest caught was probably near 3lb. Quote
micahthorlawson Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 The white bass were fun! Don't know how many smallies came unbuttoned, but it was ALOT. Sure was windy though. Clayton, thanks for the report. Definitely helped our trip down there to be an enjoyable one. 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 9, 2015 Global Moderator Posted August 9, 2015 White bass* clearly not an expert on those either ha. Biggest caught was probably near 3lb. They're hard to tell apart at that size unless you really know what to look for. Gardner has huge white bass too that are often mistaken for wipers, but again, not wipers out there either. The white bass were fun! Don't know how many smallies came unbuttoned, but it was ALOT. Sure was windy though. Clayton, thanks for the report. Definitely helped are trip down there to be an enjoyable one. Glad it was a successful trip for you guys. We were discussing the smallies coming unbuttoned while we were out there. Only thing I can think is their mouths are so much thicker than a largemouths that the hooks must not fully penetrate. Seems there isn't a trip I make down there where a big fish comes off, or several like last time. Quote
