It's rough getting to but I think that keeps the pressure off the bass a little. Lots of healthy fish in that lake. Quote
retro basser Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 I'm definitley making the trip to Miami Co this season. Sounds like a goodn' Got the boat out for the winter yesterday and drug it down to DGCO lake to see how things are coming along. Water surface temp was 56 there in the morning and 64 in spots in the afternoon. Couldnt believe it actually. Sonar was showing alot of fish on the bottom and some suspending around 15' with the vast majority clinging to primary points still, so I have a feeling the water below about 8 feet is still pretty cold. Caught about a dozen dinks on a little bit of everthing, craw colored crankbait and carolina rigged plastics worked best. I amused myself for a bit trying to find a plastic in my box they wouldnt bite at. That game ended with a lot of chewed up plastic and tiny bass to show for it lol. I couldnt care, the first day in the sun after winter felt great. Quote
pbrussell Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Went to Miami state fishing lake today, and wacked the crap out of em. It was hard fishing in the wind, but still had a really great day. Oh, finally got the skunk out of the boat too! Most of the fish were dinks, but they sure were active. Would've been nice to run into that six pounder mentioned earlier. At any rate, here was the nicest fish of the day that I caught. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted March 19, 2012 Super User Posted March 19, 2012 I went back to the state lake this morning. The morning started off slow. I had a Jig/Rage tied to both rods and for a while I thought I needed to be using something else. But they warmed up to the Jig after a while and it turned out to be a GREAT morning! In between the 2 pounders there were some nice fish. The first 4 pounder. The second 4 pounder And a 6.5 I'm SURE I would have done better if I had one of those Rage hats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
bassinKS Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 I too went out to Miami on Saturday and my dad and I whacked um a lot of small fish but we managed some 2-4lbers my biggest being on one of my first hand tied jigs with a rage trailer. It was awesome to get out on the boat for the first time and catch a lot of fish. Quote
pbrussell Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Sheesh, congrats on the awesome catches at miami. I wish we could've got into some like that, and i'm sure we would've if we could've slowed down. The wind just prevented us from throwing anything than fast moving baits. Looks like I'm gonna have to get out there again if you pulled 4 pounders, and a 6 out of there! Quote
bassinKS Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 pbrussell what time were you out there on Saturday I feel like we passed you guys on our way in if you were fishing points we had a camo boat. we were out from like 1pm to 4 or 5pm Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 20, 2012 Global Moderator Posted March 20, 2012 Man, the fish are biting good at Miami and here I am with a broken down boat trailer At least you guys are getting them. That 6.5 is the biggest fish I've heard of anyone catching out of there actually, very healthy looking fish! Quote

Honestly the pic makes the fish look skinny, but it's OK because the pic makes me look skinny too! lol I saw a fish jump the day I was there that looked to be around 8+ I am fairly sure it was a bass. Chris S Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Man, the fish are biting good at Miami and here I am with a broken down boat trailer You getting it fixed? We whacked big Whites at Hillsdale Saturday in the Hurricane Wind last Saturday!! Quote
retro basser Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Monday the 19th was a good morning to be out until the rain hit. I was really hoping it would hold off till afternoon but it came through here about 10 something at DGCO. Due to a newly discovered chair post hole in the floor of my boat that one of the previous owners was kind enough just to hide instead of actually epoxy over... I'm not fishing in the rain for awhile Anyway, I caught this 14'' right away on a craw wigglewart, one of the bigger ones i've caught out there... I'm ready to hunt some bigger prey, but sure am glad this lake is so close to my house, they are so easy to catch out there. Definitley a good lake to take a youngster learning the bass bite... oh, mid lake water was 62 deg lol. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 21, 2012 Global Moderator Posted March 21, 2012 Retro, have you ever fished Spring Creek Lake? It's a tiny little lake just southeast of Baldwin City but there is some really nice fish in it. It isn't a numbers lake but the quality is there. We fished in the rain from 7am-5pm Monday and caught some really nice fish pond hopping. Quote
uptonfish Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 anyone fished La Cynge lately? I am headed over to my bro in-law's(olathe) on Friday and we are going to fish somewhere. I live in Columbia, MO so not sure what lakes are "hot" right now over there. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 21, 2012 Global Moderator Posted March 21, 2012 Sounds like Miami State Lake has been hot lately. La Cygne is really hit or miss. You get it on a good day you can light them up, pick the wrong day and you might not get a bite. Most of the smaller state and city lakes are good right now with the warming water temps. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 21, 2012 Global Moderator Posted March 21, 2012 You getting it fixed? We whacked big Whites at Hillsdale Saturday in the Hurricane Wind last Saturday!! Yeah I busted a hub on the trailer last week on the way home from Clinton, MO. I picked up the new hub today so I just have to get it put together and get it on the trailer. Might be able to just float it off the trailer in the driveway if it keeps raining like it has been. Quote
bassinKS Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Probably going to hit Miami State Lake again this weekend and curious to see what this rain will do to them. What you guys think? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 22, 2012 Global Moderator Posted March 22, 2012 Miami usually isn't that clear anyways, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Plus it hasn't been a cold rain so it shouldn't have lowered the water temps much if at all. They love a jig, trap, and squarebill down there, all good dirty water baits. Quote
pbrussell Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Thinking about hitting perry for the first time this weekend. Any pointers? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 22, 2012 Global Moderator Posted March 22, 2012 Fish shallow and fish the rocks. I like the marina by the dam and the marina and rocks along the road in the arm on the northwest (rock creek marina I believe). The rocks along the road in slough Creek and Rock Creek there is a rock bank with a good channel swing with some stumps and logs close to the bank that holds nice fish. The cove that Slough Creek ramp is in has a point to the southeast of the ramp that has several brushpiles that are submerged. If you can find them they usually have fish in them. I like dark colored plastics, flipping tubes, baby and full sized brush hogs are some of my favorites. Spinnerbaits, squarebills, and traps can also be good. Cranks are fun because you can get into the white bass and saugeyes at times also. If all else fails the crappie should be biting well out there also. Quote
pbrussell Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 I wonder if the spawn will be going on, if it hasn't already. Guess we'll see. I'd love to run into some big girls Quote

I'd love to run into some big girls I doubt it is in a big lake like that. I haven't seen any beds in the ponds yet and a friend of mine said Melvern was 55-58 a couple days ago. But the big females should be feeding up and getting ready to move up soon. Quote
