Hey guys

So I've got a little to report from SMP this weekend.

So in two good days of fishing we hauled in 4 cats, 10 or 11 bluegills, 1 largemouth and 1 good ole snappin turtle!

Friday morning we got out there about 6:45am, started with a texas rig, fished that for a few hours then went to a yellow/gold spinner... no bites. The future wife was with me and fishing a texas rig... she soon lost her patience and when went to just ole fashioned live worms and bobbers. That's when the bites started rollin in - well sorta haha! Caught a handfull of blue's... then grabbed some lunch came back and snagged 2 cats in the little pond on the SW corner.

Didn't get back out there until Monday morning. Again I started with the texas rig, then to spinners... then defeated I went back to live bait and worms (which she had been fishing all morning with some good bluegills to show for it)... Caught a few more blue's. Got lunch. Came back and same story; we both hauled in a good cat, and I snagged a baby Largemouth - about 1 pounder or a "dink" as you may call it haha, but it was fun never-the-less...

Now I do want to tell you of the GIANTS I saw flippin out of the water in the Northwest/Southwest corners of the main Lake. I can only assume they were Largemouths - but all morning and afternoon on Monday these guys were hitting the surface HARD. They had to be 10+pounds. They were just outside of my casting range as we were on the banks, but man if i had a boat I'd be over in the corner, so just a heads up...

Most likely Carp, last time I was out there the carp were up on bank causing a crazy ruckus. Big ones.  Glad you had some luck!

Got 46 Largemouth and 2 blue gill Saturday and Sunday.

They were hitting pretty hard on Yum Dinger's, Stick-O's, and Senko's. A couple on a chatter beetle that I made up, several on Mepps Gold #4, and a few frogs.

Got the opportunity to fish a Green Lake in Wisconsin for a few hours yesterday afternoon with a couple of guys who have fished it for 20 years. One boat went after fish and I went after big fish. The guy I was with threw back 4 lb smallmouth like they they were dinks. When I hooked that first Lake Trout I thought I had the one I was looking for. The big smallies just were not biting with the weather change.

Should have had those PB&J's LOL !!

I had the one you gave me as a replacement.  Still waiting on the rest of the replacements.  I'd probably still be waiting for it to hit bottom though since we were fishing deep.

Jake and I decided to break the day up yesterday. We started at La Cygne after I'd been texted some pictures of big bass the day before. I missed a couple bites but it took a few hours before Jake finally caught the first and only bass on a shakyhead. At least it was a nice one.

There were fish everywhere on my depthfinders in about 15-20 feet of water. White bass and wipers were loaded up there, we caught several on a jigging spoon but Jake's first fish was one of Curt's pets.

Wind was getting bad so we headed to Miola to see what was going on there. Slow start but we finally started getting them flipping the grass. My biggest one was a for sure keeper that was too much for my punching rod to handle as it's now a two piece.

Moaning because some people eat their catch?

It's your fish to do with as you please. I just ask that you (and everyone else), consider selective harvest when you do so. Keeping the smaller ones and turning the big fish loose and keeping the smaller ones is beneficial to the water they came from and yourself as the smaller ones taste better and have fewer toxins in them.

I'm not trying to start a flame war on keeping bass and your post are appreciated as you're one of the only ones from the other side of the state line. Obviously you know what you're doing from the pictures you've posted. My post was simply a question. If you'd like some recommendations on lakes that need some bass removed I'd be glad to name some. Heck I'll meet you at a couple of them and clean my 5 for you too.
