Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 11, 2015 Global Moderator Posted May 11, 2015 I'd fish it over Hillsdale any day based on Jake's post alone After my day at Hillsdale, you may want to rethink that 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 12, 2015 Global Moderator Posted May 12, 2015 Like I said, Hillsdale was at the top of its game today. 2 for real 18" keepers, 1 on a War Eagle spinnerbait, 1 on a Cavitron. Biggest 5 went 12lbs 2oz. I've got videos uploaded, I'll post it when they're all uploaded. 2 Quote
chelboed Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Nice! I'm still stuck in the 5-6# PB range. 21". My goal this year is a master anglers award...so 22"+ or 6-7#. Tough from the bank, but I'm determined. Quote
Ondrejka Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Drew and I went and fished Lone Star last night one last time before they shut the lake down today for the milfoil treatment. The winds were coming in hard from the west, making most of my favorite spots super hard to fish with the wind and chop. We got bit on jigs, shakyheads, and topwater. Drew caught a decent fish waiting for me at the ramp before I got there. Had about just as many come unbuttoned. Nothing to really brag about, just the usual Lone Star specials. Lake should reopen on Thursday I believe, I'll be really anxious to see what (if any) effect the milfoil treatment has on the fishery.  On a side note, we experienced some really strange baitfish action last night too. We'd thought they were just little bass darting in and out of the weeds...until they started jumping everywhere. And they were big, like 5-6". Kind of uncharacteristic for the shad I'm used to seeing there. Most of the time they started freaking out, it wasn't like they were even being chased. It was more from commotion than anything, which kind of led us to believe they may have been Asian Carp....  But without actually being able to see one up close, we could only speculate. Quote

Those baitfish sound like golden shiners. They like to jump like that and they happen pretty often when someone dumps their bait bucket in the lake instead of on the bank like you're supposed to. I've caught them on little cranks and inline spinners over a foot long. They like weedy areas too, another reason they come to mind. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 12, 2015 Global Moderator Posted May 12, 2015 Does anyone have a travel rod I could borrow for our Florida trip this week? Looking for a spinning rod, either medium or medium light that will break down small enough to fit into a suitcase, not telescoping though. 1 Quote

It would also be somewhat weird to see Asian Carp in a lake system. Still had us slightly worried for a minute! Quote

chelboed Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 James A Reed was really slow this evening. 2 bass...one on a Trick Worm and the other on a Senko. Nothing on spinners, frogs, jigs, etc... Quote
RangerDanger Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Chris S and I started out yesterday with the plan of going walleye fishing but we saw way too many boats in tow going with the same idea so I called and audible and we headed west on 68 and south on 35 instead. Turned out to be a good idea. Started out slow up on the dam then I grabbed a white spybait and immediately hooked up a 6" fish then a super dink maybe 3" then a couple of the typical 12" dam fish. When we were about to leave the dam something huge took the spybait, felt like I hooked a log but it was moving. It took off in front of the boat then came right under the boat while my rod looked like an ugly stick commercial. Probably a catfish never even got it close to the surface before it came off. Went to the coves and I immediately hooked up again with the spybait, drove Chris to resort to the ned. The spot we really wanted to go had two boats already on it so we went across the cove an I barely had the trolling motor down and Chris hooked up a good fish while we proceeded to catch 4 or 5 more those boats left and we went over there and went on a tear. Was like that all day. Crappie even like the spybait, even though Chris hates it. The smallmouth were slamming that thing like they slam a jerkbait. Quote
Ondrejka Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Went to Olathe with Keith yesterday. It was super tough. We caught about 7 channel cats, most on the Ned. Couldn't get bit on a jig, couldn't get bit on a Wobbler, couldn't get bit on a shakyhead. Keith ended up having his best green fish bite on a white twister tail after resorting to Crappie fishing. Not what I was expecting! Should be heading to Lone Star soon to see what it looks like. Quote
mundell88 Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Fished Richmond city lake today from 12-230. Didn't catch any fish but at least I got to fight the wind. It was blowing so hard I couldn't keep the the 14 ft Jon boat in one spot just dragging anchor across the bottom. Threw Crankbaits on the dam. Threw a spinnerbait around the flooded weeds and flipped a jig in some trees. Even threw a frog in some shallow weeds but no luck. Water was dirty from all the rain and the bite was definitely off. I didn't want to leave without catching a fish but my wife's attention span was running out after 21/2 hrs without a bite. Quote
fknlo Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 I have some time off at the end of the month and am thinking about going down to Table Rock for a couple of days. Â I've never been down there and am wondering where I should be fishing. Â I'll be in a kayak so my range is limited. Â Looks like Branson is probably going to be the best place to stay for a couple nights? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 18, 2015 Global Moderator Posted May 18, 2015 Fknlo, I'm out of town now. I'll send you a PM with some Table Rock info when I get back in a couple days, you might message me a reminder if I don't by the end of the week though. 1 Quote
SuperFluke Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 http://www.nwd-mr.usace.army.mil/rcc/nwk/7daylak3.txt  Some crazy inflow numbers from this weekend after the rain. Lot of lakes 2-4' high now. Saw some pictures of the riprap by the Hillsdale Point ramp being completely submerged. Quote
Doc-Drew Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 My dad and I went out to Melvern in his new boat (Not sizzle's boat!) to break it in with some big lake smallies. Â Like Adam posted, fish were being caught but for us it was very isolated spots. Â And I mean like a 10' circle and nothing around it. Â Go to a new spot catch one, then keep casting there and catching more. Â It was like the fish were tightly schooled up and not wanting to take a recess. Â It was great because it allowed us to test out his new trolling motor with iPilot and spot lock. Â The biggest fish we caught , besides about a 4lb drum, was about a 16" smallmouth 2.5 lbs. Â We did have quite a multi species day though; smallmouth, largemouth, crappie, green sunfish, drum, and a walleye. Â Â After a nice cleaning of the boat, we went to Douglas County yesterday to install something on the trailer and get some "pre-fishing" done for this Thursday. Â Let me just say that lake was MUDDY! Â We talked to someone camping and he said they got over 4" of rain Saturday night. Â We figured they got hammered when we were by the dam and saw logs floating down the lake from the eastern of the two main arms. Â Took us a while but we were able to figure out some of the fish including two that were over the 15" slot. Â Since I have never been to that lake before, I cannot comment on how high the water was but judging by the amount of fresh vegetation in the water, it looked to be 2-4 feet high! 3 Quote
Ondrejka Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Headed to DoCo this evening to see what's happening. With any luck I'll be able to enjoy a dink fest. 2 Quote

It's actually a 13-18 inch slot on Douglas, unless it changed recently. Either way, you catch 2 >15" there Thursday and you can go wait at the ramp to get paid. Remember, this is the lake that a 1.01 took big bass last year. Quote
