Super User gardnerjigman Posted April 9, 2015 Super User Posted April 9, 2015 Temps have dropped BIG TIME and the wind is howling in Bonner Springs now. Major difference from this morning. Hopefully the lake has some wind break to it. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 9, 2015 Global Moderator Posted April 9, 2015 At least 6 boats. Wind is out of a good direction for out there, lots of wind breaks. 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 15, 2015 Global Moderator Posted April 15, 2015 I fished La Cygne Monday, Melvern Tuesday. Had fun at both. La Cygne was way better than I'd hoped. Had to get myself pumped up to fish on the way down there, wasn't looking forward to it. They changed my mind fast, had 5 in the boat in the first 30 minutes and kept catching them pretty good all over. Any of you guys going to be there Thursday night, a chartreuse shad or threadfin shad H2O CRS, virgo blue YUM wooly bug, red bug Zoom magnum finesse worm, or a black and blue Ned were all catching fish. I should have had 3 keepers but quick released 2 at the boat, both bigger than the one I caught. Lost one on the Deps, one on a KVD 8.0, almost the exact same spot 3 hours apart. Finally hooked and held a good one on the H2O, 5lbs 6ozs. Managed to get a fish on the Deps right after that, poor little guy got it bad from my adrenaline rush I still had going from the big fish.  Melvern was a lot of fun. Took awhile to figure them out but once we did we put the hurt on them. Jon had one spot we did good on a jerkbait and that was pretty much it. I started working a bone super spook jr and they were liking that. Anywhere we could get onto a bank the wind was blowing into just inside of main lake pockets they were loaded up. Ned rig and a tube did well on those spots also. I had 2 that were over 18" and Jon jumped one off at the boat that was for sure a third keeper. 1 Quote
micahthorlawson Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Went out to SMP Tues night. Boated 3 Largemouth over 15 inches, but nothing Big. I did catch a PB wiper off the dam. 8 1/2 lbs on a squarebill. Definately a blast and made my night. I never can get pictures up on here, but I uploaded some to FB for those of you that are friends. Quote
KSUfaithful Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Made it out to a few ponds the last two nights on my way home from work. Spinnerbait and a pearl sinko close to the shore. Bite was from 7pm - 8pm. Spinnerbait was a hammered strike and the senko was on the fall.  I bought a H20 Express Mettle reel about a month ago and have really enjoyed fishing with it. I've been throwing a spinnerbait with it from day one on 12lb Big Game line. Took it apart the other night and seems to be of good build. They are a "cheap" but quality reel from Academy. Sometimes are on sale for $30.  Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 16, 2015 Global Moderator Posted April 16, 2015 I have been really impressed by the Mettle as well. I bought one when they were on sale for $30 a couple years ago, I wish I'd bought more but really didn't expect much out of a $30 reel. They were just on sale for $40 a couple weeks ago so I bought 2 more. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 18, 2015 Global Moderator Posted April 18, 2015 I caught this below the dam at Olathe Lake today on a RES. Â They must have been really thick because it felt like my bait was getting slammed almost every cast but I wasn't hooking anything or if I did it was just there for a second and gone. Weird because it only happened with the trap and not any jigs, spoons, or other cranks. I'm sending the picture to KDWPT but if anyone fishes done there just be aware that they're there and make sure not to transport bait from below the dam. 1 Quote
KSUfaithful Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Made it out to SMP on Saturday morning. Got out there right after 5 am and fished until about 7:45 am. Fished the dam with a husky jerk, yellow perch pattern. There wasn't much wind and conditions were fairly nice. I spooked some of the large carp feeding a long the dam and they equally spooked me as it was still dark and couldn't see much besides the light from my head lamp.  I was able to land this 23.5", 6.5-7lb Wiper. I didn't get a good read on my scale and definitely need to upgrade on one . The fish hit it as soon as it hit the surface and took three strikes to get him hooked. This was my first Wiper and I must say, they give a great fight!  1 Quote

This may explain a lot of what I have seen on my FF near the dam, it is so thick on my FF with fish in 30-40 feet it looks like you could walk on them, Sizzle and I threw spoons, neds and went back and fourth several times with no luck. another boat worked the same spot with nota. I went back out there with my son and we tried crawlers and chicken livers thinking maybe they where cat-fish stacked up and nothing bit. Thoughts? Quote

Chris and I caught too many keepers to count and one 4 off her bed, but you needed to weigh a 5+ fish to make your money back. We didn't expect fish to already be on their beds doing their thing! Sunday we caught that 4 sight fishing her in the rain lol sounds fun right? Had we gone after bed fish Saturday we probably would've had a better chance at a money fish. Hell of a lot of fun though! 1 Quote

I think you misunderstood, I was in the outlet below the lake, not on the lake. If they were in the lake it would probably be national news since they haven't been found in any other lakes in the country yet, just rivers and creeks.  I got an email back from KDWPT, they're going to put a ANS sign up so people are aware that they may find them in there. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 22, 2015 Global Moderator Posted April 22, 2015 Cbass12 and I made the rounds Monday and Tuesday. Made the first trip to Wabaunsee of the year, like to have that day back. Moss was terrible on the rocks and dock post all the areas we could fish, which was less than half the lake due to the rolling white caps that had my trolling motor coming out of the water and the fact that they were working on the dam and you're not supposed to come within 100 yards of the dam  On the plus side, they don't spray boats anymore it doesn't appear. Either that or they just forgot to spray mine, which I find highly unlikely that they'd miss out on a chance to bleach my new carpet  Ryan caught one decent largemouth on a jig and I had one decent smallmouth on a jig and Ryan cleaned up on the 6" crappie in his hunt for enough bigger ones to make a decent dinner.  Melvern Tuesday was kind of a grind but it was steady enough and the quality was good enough to make it enjoyable. I wish we wouldn't have fished the dam as long as we did, and we only fished it for about 30 minutes, and we worked hard to catch 2 whites and 2 smallies in that amount of time. Fish were really in the coves it seemed, especially the bigger ones. Ryan caught a nice one on his first cast of the morning on a jerkbait, 1 of 2 jerkbait fish we caught. Fished the Marina a bit. Found a couple of beds and I stuck a nice one off one of them. First time bed fishing for smallies, I like it! Lost a nice largemouth to a cable and had a monster spot come unglued on a spook but just plain missed it We started heading down the lake and fishing all the little pockets and doing decent, I had one destroy a River 2 Sea Rover We played with a really nice one on a bed for 30 minutes and both had a shot at her and both failed to connect well enough. I stumbled onto one of the fattest smallies I've ever caught just inside one cut, 16 1/4" and 3.5 pounds, thought it was a snag until it started moving. We went back to Eisenhower for the last 30 minutes, wish we'd have done it sooner, it was fast paced for 30 minutes. I managed to round out my bass slam for the day when a healthy 4 pound largemouth decided my Ned looked like a tasty snack. Ryan caught a nice spot right when I caught her so he got the double pic with both fish.  Ned ruled the day but we caught fish on jerkbaits, tubes, and a spook as well. 1 Quote
