Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 2, 2015 Global Moderator Posted April 2, 2015 Fished Leavenworth today. Was my first time out there. Pretty good bite early but no big ones. Caught some nice crappie on the ned and a 3 lb wiper on a jerkbait. Seems like the lake gets a lot of pressure. 6 or 7 boats in the water when I left in middle of day on a Wednesday. Leavenworth, like most of the halfway decent lakes in the area, does get a lot of pressure. I've seen 20 boats out there on nice evenings during the summertime. It has a good population of fish though and I expect we'll still see plenty of fish, maybe even some good ones. Quote
sizzlefry Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 talked to the guy who does the cull survey at Leavenworth and it does not look to good out there oh well maybe we can prove it wrong come Thursday. Jon and I put 18 in the boat today and from what the cull guy said we did 17 better then anyone else out there today. Quote

It's still early in the year and most people that fish out there are catfishing or just don't have a clue. Drew and I caught between 50 and 75 last fall in a fairly short trip. There's not many big fish left but it's not Douglas State Lake either. Quote
Drew03cmc Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 I spent yesterday fishing in spurts. I started with my daughter at Lone Star. She wanted to find shells on the shore, so I fished for about a half hour and caught two bass on the Ned. Later, I went to Douglas County and caught one in a half hour. Here is the larger one from Lone Star. Quote
micahthorlawson Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I went to cedar in Olathe Saturday. Fished 4 hours and only caught 2 it was brutal. They were on the shallow side up close and there was so many bank fisherman on that side it made it hard to fish. One was just shy of 3 pounds. May try to go to Leavenworth tomorrow. Only fished there once about 5 years ago and it was only for an hour or so. 1 Quote

micahthorlawson Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I have to work until 4 30 or so, so  I'll be at either Lone Star or Leavenworth tomorrow and probably by myself if you see me and want to jump in just holler or message me on FB. I have to work until 4 30 or so, so I might just hit a closer lake. But if i end up out there and see you I will give you a holler! Thanks! Quote
conorsixtakc Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Im not sure we could have fished tougher conditions at LOZ this past weekend, but we did it anyway. Roughly 5" of rain in the few days prior to Friday left all the feeder creeks in my area full of cold chocolate milk. Suffice to say those lower end fish won't really be moving shallow in the coves for another week. All-jerkbait-everything Friday focusing on channel swings and secondary points with deep water nearby. Not a single jig fish, and they weren't biting a wart as well as I hoped they would be. Out of the 6 or 7 fish we caught that day I did manage a new PB 3 lb spotted bass, but very tough fishing overall. One of the brightest full moons I've ever seen Friday night led to glassy bluebird skies Saturday morning. Despite the drastic change in conditions, Drew figured them out pretty quickly dragging a hula grub through cover. It was a humbling weekend, but we fished the weather and water we were given! Looking forward to warmer water at Stockton! 1 Quote

Looking forward to warmer water at Stockton!   We saw the same conditions up the river. I gave up on the bass although the AIA guys caught some nice bags, 20+ lbs. We traveled a bit down lake and did manage to find several places with clear to stained water which was like before the storms hit and found some nice crappie on the banks. Deer creek was full of trash and chocolate milk, maybe 3 in of visibility. It was crazy when we started finding clearer water as it was a perfect line where the dirty and clear water were. Also that moon was sick....too bad it wasn't the best conditions and warm out or I may have been fishing. Really good or really tough depending on where you were. Probably could have caught a bunch of crappie under that moon though! Quote
Chris S Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Is Rodney expecting some kickback for that jerkbait color? IDK if he even knows, he cant get pics on his cell phone either  Quote

Chris S Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 My horn doesn't work, but then I've never had a boat with a working horn. The one on my Lowe will scare the shite out of ya if you are not expecting it!  PS: you need to buy one of those small air horns or a whistles from Walmart, a horn is a required safety item like a fire extinguisher in most states: http://kdwpt.state.ks.us/news/Boating/Boating-Legally/Requirements/Equipment/Sound-Producing-Devices Quote

KSUfaithful Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Hi guys, Â First post here. Been a lurky for sometime and decided to make the jump. Hope this post is ok, read the rules beforehand. Â I've been in the KC area all of my life and have always been into bass fishing, even from a real early age. Most of my fishing is done from the shore/bank but I've managed to land some pretty good bass over the years. I took some time away but really got bit hard this year and I've been itching to get back into it. Caught some nice fish back in March on spinnerbaits, will try to post pics once I learn. Â Does anyone know of some good locations regarding fishing from the shore? I almost always bank fishing (maybe boat someday)Â and really try to find ponds that offer good fishing. Specifically, does anyone know if SMP southeast location holds fish? The water flows back into a marsh area and looks like it could be good. Tried it the other day but no luck. Â Anyways, really enjoyed reading the posts in here and excited to be apart of it. 1 Quote
KSUfaithful Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 This guy was taken on a spinnerbait in a JOCO neighborhood pond. It used to be a farm pond but now has homes all around. Still can produce fish though. Â This 4# was also taken on a spinnerbait. Caught in about 4ft of water in a farm pond in outside of Eudora. Both fish caught in mid-late march. Quote

Ondrejka Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 What a weekend it was. Posting in here for folks that didn't get to see it on FB. I knew there was a double-digit Wiper in my near future, but did not expect her to show up on Saturday. I got my boat back from the shop Saturday morning and decided to get out for a few hours alone. Lots of wind and murky water. I caught 4-5 dinks before hitting one last spot and gave myself the famous "one last cast" line. Well my jerkbait got slammed and was in for quite the fight. Honestly at first I was convinced I'd snagged another mongoloid carp or flathead, and was just along for the ride at that point. I followed her around the cove with the trolling motor, as I didn't want the hooks to pull just so I could see what it was (8lb Fireline with my ML Vendetta, didn't want to take any chances). I played it right, and when she surfaced I freaked. Biggest Wiper I'd ever seen, it didn't even look real. Of course I left my net in the truck, so it was on me to tire her out and hand land it with a face full of treble hooks. I flipped my aerator switch and went to work.  The first weight I took locked in at 12.2 lbs. The second time it locked in at 12.1, when I took the photo. Length was 27.5", girth was 20" even.  I told myself the first DD Wiper I got would be mounted. So I'm going to do just that. What an incredible fish. I took it to a buddy's house in Eudora where we wrapped her in a wet towel to protect the scales and fins, then into a vacuum sealed bag and straight into the deep freeze. What an incredible fish. I'm still in awe. The GoPro video is out on my YouTube channel if anyone knows where to find it. Can't post it in here due to the expletive language of my excitement. The fight itself was probably upward of 10-12 minutes, but didn't get the GoPro on until about the last 3.      I couldn't resist getting back out on Sunday, but the lake was windier than I've ever seen it. So we slowed things down and fished a protected cove. Managed a few pretty decent keepers on jigs and jerkbaits both (would have liked to have them on Thursday  ), this one at 2.9# on a jig. And finally my first fish on my new Lews.   Can't wait to see what the Wiper mount will look like.  5 Quote

micahthorlawson Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Went out to Olathe last night with my buddy. Water temp was 55, fishing was slow, I missed two and my buddy caught a dink on a jig. I never do very well out there early in the year., Quote
